What interactions exist between the individual and his living space? Responses to these questions can be found in a French picturebook published in 1999 by l’Ecole des Loisirs, Devine qui fait quoi. Une promenade invisible [Guess who does what? An invisible walk] by Gerda Muller. This paper has two aims. The first aim is to demonstrate that Devine qui fait quoi is a “geographer-picturebook”, expressing and participating in the construction of a child’s lived-in space. The second aim is to show that a “geographer-book” like Devine qui fait quoi can be read in a kindergarten to explore, to structure and to organize space with 5 year-old children.","PeriodicalId":366273,"journal":{"name":"Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica. The home is not just an objective and architectural space, but also an intimate space with sensory, symbolic, cultural, social and political dimensions. The concept of espace vecu refers to a relationship between what \"exists\" and what \"is perceived\". Children build their own identity in the context of their families, developing relationships not only with people, but also with places and things. The aim of this special issue is to identify and analyse the evolution of the representation of these spaces in European picturebooks published in the period 1945-2010. An historical and comparative international survey on picturebooks has been carried out by researchers of children's literature, comparative education and geography from various European countries (Italy – coordinator, Croatia, France, Germany, Norway, Portugal), emphasising as the interdisciplinary study of domestic spaces represented in picturebooks is a particularly promising investigative field for reading, within an original perspective framework, social and cultural changes also occurring in the history of childhood.","PeriodicalId":366273,"journal":{"name":"Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica. The home is intended primarily as a physical place where the family comes together, and where the protagonists’ primary needs are generally met. The home is also a place of memories and knowledge acquisition. It is capable of revealing the attitudes of the characters, their lifestyles, translating them into words and images. The home can reveal the quality of human relations within its walls and outside the family circle. The aim of this contribution is to analyze the home as a space of personal characterization and psychological, social and historical-cultural evolution. After providing a historical picture of Italian domestic life as of the years after World War II, the article outlines some of the ways in which the home, its interiors and the image of childhood have changed in Italian picturebooks over the second half of the 20th century.","PeriodicalId":366273,"journal":{"name":"Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica. The corpus consists of 38 picturebooks, with roughly five exemplars for each decade. The selection likewise considers the historical fact that Germany has been divided into two states in 1949, the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic, until the re-union of both states in 1990. Based on the theoretical framework of cognitive studies with an emphasis on cognitive mapping and cognitive narratology, this chapter inquires how children are introduced into the concept of home on the one hand, and how this concept is closely connected with children’s emotional, moral, and cognitive development on the other. As this concept is subject to political, social, and cultural modifications, this survey also demonstrates the impact of these changes onto the narrative and visual depiction of domestic spaces in picturebooks.","PeriodicalId":366273,"journal":{"name":"Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica. A close reading of selected picturebooks can exemplify the evolution of the depiction of home space over time, by characterising not only the symbolic connotation of intimate and personal spaces in picturebooks, but also their relevance, i.e., the different levels of importance and visibility they acquire. The text also aims to identify the main trends emerging from the corpus regarding the main themes addressed and the different kinds of picturebooks included. Finally, the conclusions will underline the great development of Portuguese picturebooks, in terms of literary and visual quality, including the relevance of peritexts and of the materiality of the picturebooks.","PeriodicalId":366273,"journal":{"name":"Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica. An international historical and comparative survey on picturebooks . The research focused on an international historical-comparative investigation into how domestic spaces and the espace vecu has evolved in children’s literature since 1945. The project is supported by a research network that includes several scholars of children’s literature from a variety of European countries. From the methodological point of view, this study seeks to examine how a combination of historical and comparative methods can be applied to research in the field of children’s literature. Two research tools have been used: a Word Picturebook Datasheet and an Excel Data Matrix comprising four different tables. The project generated some interesting and thought-provoking comparative results in addition to raising some issues with regard to the tools used to collect the data.","PeriodicalId":366273,"journal":{"name":"Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica. My aim is to explore the depicted child’s relation to nature and discuss whether the child seeks to master nature, and how the idea of ‘mastering nature’ may be perceived. From the corpus, ten books have been selected for this exploration. The article is structured in three parts. First, I outline the comparative framework and the main findings of my inquiry into the whole corpus. Second, I sketch a theoretical background for the following analyses. This background is supported by studies on the importance of nature in Norwegian children’s literature and on the competent Nordic child. Finally, I present my analyses of the selected picturebooks with an emphasis on possible differences between boy and girl characters.","PeriodicalId":366273,"journal":{"name":"Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica. Teenagers’ use of educational places, both formal and informal, across the urban territory, is characterized by a metropolitan “nomadism” that expresses the need for continuous movement and short time-frames. Groups are no longer fixed in one place or reliant on local recognition but display fluid modes of belonging and identification. The paths followed by the adolescents of the early twenty-first century are similar to the social networking model. Groups develop around attractive features “emerging” from the territory, which serve as focal points for the production of “fleeting” experiences, characterized by events-based forms of entertainment that are temporary and transitory in nature. This leads us to interpret the specific ways in which adolescents move through the territorial spaces of their city and inhabit its timeframes, as an effect of a complex dispositive that at the urban level contributes to producing a consumerist subjectivity.","PeriodicalId":366273,"journal":{"name":"Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica. Starting from the point of view of the Philosophy of education and focusing on the main connections between literary work and inner-Self, these preliminary considerations refer to the idea that the search for individual shape can find in the narrative field a thoughtful instrument to understand the complexity of the relationship subject-world. Since the Bildungsroman model, the pedagogical role of literature has become increasingly fruitful, but especially in the late twentieth century, as it no longer had to make the main character a model to seek identification, Literature became the place of that representation of reality and thought capable of directly calling into question the beliefs, the doubts, the sensitivities of the reader, hence supporting a growing Self-awareness and a more disenchanted worldview. From the analysis of some of these self-reflective figures, therefore, new similarities emerge so as to make Literature an instrument to build the shape of each one’s personality.","PeriodicalId":366273,"journal":{"name":"Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica.
