The available land for PV installation in areas with telecommunication towers is, generally, poor, and a proper sizing procedure is required. In this work, it is supposed to dismiss the old telecommunication tower of three sites and install properly designed towers. Three types of towers with different active PV surfaces are analyzed for each site using 3D models. Then, energy balances and financial parameters are calculated and compared, demonstrating the feasibility of the investment. For one of the towers under analysis, the integration of a storage system is investigated by estimating its energy and economic benefits.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134205056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Communication protocol such as IEC61850 is already in the substations because of interoperability and performance in maintaining strict real-time transfer of messages in all the communication levels such as process bus, station bus, and the supervisory level. Integration of distributed energy resources, especially grid to vehicle and vehicle to grid technology, increases the substation boundary and its communication network, which is a safety threat, and they can be a vulnerable point to cyber security attacks. In this work, we analyze the impact of the cyberattack on a modified IEEE 13 node test feeder network that operates with Distributed Energy Resource Management System and IEC61850 as a communication protocol. The threat impact is analyzed using a Hardware-in-the-loop test bench with the integration of a physical communication network layer and Intelligent Electronic Devices connected to the circuit breakers. A Man-in-the-middle attack on the power system network, such as spoofing and false data injection in the supervisory communication layer of IEC61850 MMS involved in the Distributed Energy Resource Management System, are executed.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133300998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, load and coincidence factors change due to the high penetration of distributed generators and loads such as electric vehicles, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, induction stoves, and customer behavior changes. Furthermore, many countries are introducing performance-based regulations, pushing distribution system operators to be more aware of selecting investments to improve the system efficiency and the quality of service for customers. In order to do that, distribution network planners should find best practices to evaluate ex-ante the main critical issues and periodically update the status and benefits of investments. In this paper, a risk index is proposed to estimate the reliability of distribution grids. Using a suited algorithm, automatic calculation of the index has been carried out on Milano’s medium voltage distribution network, a city in the north of Italy, showing its correlation with the traditional reliability indices. Moreover, benchmark values for the index are given as well as some suggestions for reliability improvement.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133460871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Discontinuous SVPDM (DSVPDM) scheme applicable for any n-level inverter topology is proposed in this article. To reduce the switching the pole voltage is clamped to negative DC bus for a period of 1200. The DSVPDM scheme uses abc coordinates and thus it does not require sector information and coordinate transformation. The cross switching associated with direct vector quantized SVPDM is less in the proposed scheme. The DSVPDM is validated for a four-level inverter realized by a 3hp open end winding induction motor fed by 11.5 kVA two-level inverter on both sides with asymmetric DC link voltage. The performance of DSVPDM is compared with space vector based modulation schemes and the results are presented.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122686291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The resulting current slopes after an inverter-imposed voltage step can be arranged to form a saliency vector that contains the superposition of all machine saliencies. A crucial processing step is to separate motor saliencies during online operation. This is required in order to access a single saliency harmonic that is used as feedback in the control scheme. A robust saliency separation technique relies on an identification of all non-control machine saliency harmonics during a commissioning stage including their torque dependence. The stored saliencies are then feedforward compensated using the stored information. Yet, saliencies present a relevant speed dependency as well. This paper investigates the effects of the speed on the saliency amplitude and phase shift in the context of feedforward saliency separation, and provides a speed adaption method for accurate saliency compensation. To prove the saliency speed-dependency and performance of the proposed speed adaption method, experimental results taken on an induction machine are provided.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124051425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The components design guidelines are presented for each topology. A simple open-loop system was chosen for a verification. The comparison contains 4 criteria: an overall inductances energy, an overall capacitor energy, a total voltage stress on semiconductors and conduction losses of semiconductors and the passive elements. The main advantage of the traditional H5, H6 or HERIC topologies is a simplicity of the operation and freewheeling states. However, conventional solution produces a high leakage current, which should be reduced by the additional switches or the common-mode choke. Buck-boost inverters based on unfolding circuit have more conduction losses, but they require fewer passive components and produces small leakage current.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127966464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the drive systems are simpler and more robust than those used for AC PM brushless motors, the BLDC has the disadvantage of a limited operational speed span. Phase advance and dwell control are two very efficient methods allowing to expand the speed capabilities of the BLDC, and they continue to be investigated. In this context, the actual paper presents a MATLAB-Simulink model used to model phase advance and dwell control of a BLDC used in an electric vehicle. A new optimization method is proposed by adjusting the phase advance and dwell control angles according to motor speed when the current in the motor is limited to a maximum value.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116744955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three types of carrier-based modulation schemes are used to develop variants of a three-level inverter, and are compared in terms of inverter output current, total harmonic distortion, and harmonic components. It is shown that the Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation method increases the inverter output, but with an increase in the total harmonic distortion over that of the Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation method. Analysis of simulation results show that the inverter output waveform quality is greatly influenced by the inverter modulation index, frequency ratio, switching frequency, and the filtering action of the connected load. The three-level inverters, nevertheless, show better results than the two-level and six-step inverters.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114784390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A low-scale prototype system was implemented using a dSPACE platform, which provides the computational resources for the implementation of the field-oriented control in a real-time application. Hall sensors and an incremental encoder were used for position measurement and a comparison was made between the performance of the field-oriented control in case of the two sensors. Also, the system efficiency was tested in case of a dynamic speed change scenario. Corresponding command signals, current signals and speed measurements are presented to validate the correct operation of the system.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114864314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
