The energy conversion is mostly based on power electronic devices. The control stability of these power converters is becoming increasingly important as more and more converters are being established in the grids, transforming the grid dynamic response. The Thévenin equivalent (TE) impedance at the point where a converter is connected can be used to represent the grid response seen from the converter. Therefore, an accurate TE parameter estimation is a key enabling feature for high control stability and performance enhancement in smart grids. An analysis of the main sources of TE estimation errors is given in this paper. Focusing on its core mathematical calculation, a new TE estimation algorithm based on least squares fitting for non-linear systems is presented. Simulation results show higher accuracy than a classical linear calculation method, especially at a high degree of measurement errors and reference frame shifts. More accurate TE impedance results can be beneficial for controller optimization of power converters, which will subsequently contribute to the stability of the future power supply systems with high integration of RESs as a whole.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121807911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sensorless control strategy is realized through a redundant extended Back-EMF observer structure applied to an asymmetrical six-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM), controlled by a standard field-oriented control. A simplified vector space decomposition approach has been implemented to eliminate the current unbalance between two sets of three-phase windings. Fault-tolerant sensorless control strategy has been proposed in this paper for the case of open phase fault. Experimental investigation on a 1kW dual three-phase PMSM drive confirms the feasibility and effectiveness of the redundant sensorless control solution.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116939993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work also proposes the dimensioning of this BESS and the comparison of different battery capacities based on a Matlab/Simulink-based model able to simulate a one-day operation of the transit trolleybuses. This manuscript illustrates the effect of the proposed management and the chosen battery through comparisons of the voltage and current profiles along the line. The simulation results show an increase in the voltage level and a decrease in the line current along the catenary with the use of the BESS, indicating that the battery can be a solution to improve the operation of trolleybus systems, even though it is not usually used for this type of network.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124785716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to fulfill these requirements, the change from three-phase to multi-phase systems and the preferred use of permanent magnet synchronous machine is shown in ongoing research. In this paper, a comprehensive assessment of internal short-circuit faults is conducted on a nine-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine. A machine model including the considered short-circuit faults is implemented using finite element method to analyze the system behavior. Voltage, current, and torque characteristics are used for the analysis.In general, the assessment of different internal short-circuit faults shows that the impact of the fault rises with an increasing amount of shortened turns. The location of the short-circuit fault is also identified to have remarkable impact on the severity. Especially the currents in the affected phase exceed the nominal values, but increasing currents are also seen in the healthy phases. The star-connected (1x9)-phase machine has lower current peaks and torque ripples than the separately supplied (9x1)-phase machine. However, a major disadvantage of the (1x9)-phase machine is the electrical dependency among the phases. This leads to an imbalanced system once the short-circuit occurs. In contrast, the (9x1)-phase machine shows a lower impact of the fault on the remaining phases and a greater potential for future fault-tolerant control strategies.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"335 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123780136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sensitivity analysis of design parameters has been accomplished for critical parameters selection and metamodels are generated based on critical variables. Based on these metamodels, the optimization process aims to propose a machine geometry to improve sensorless performance without compromising torque ripple and average torque. The metamodel assisted optimization process has been proved to reduce computational cost with a good accuracy. The selection of the optimal solution was achieved based on multi-objective optimization process using NSGA-II. The optimal solution is validated by finite element analysis and has proved an extending of 100% of the feasibility area of sensorless control with only an increase of 3% of torque ripple.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124617249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The distributed motors are employed to regulate the longitudinal speed and yaw-rate. Based on such regulation errors, each motor is given a suitable tire-slip/angular-speed set point. To drive independently each motor to its reference speed, the individual control loops lead to the online steady-state estimation of each actual wheel load-torque which is compensated. Simultaneous information on each tire torque-slip pair allow for a steady-state monitoring of tire operations on force-slip characteristics. An automatic longitudinal speed reduction action is performed to prevent tire forces saturation. An experimental setup is designed on a 1:10 scale autonomous vehicle equipped with 2-rear in-wheel DC brushless motors, aiming to show the reliability of such tire operation monitoring from rear wheel speed real measurements, conditioned by a Kalman filter. A path-following algorithm is developed for the autonomous guidance. The experiment illustrates the automatic speed reduction when the vehicle encounters an adherence jump.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"5 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130674881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This control law uses the instantaneous model instead of the nonlinear average model of the converter and has certain advantages compared to traditional approaches. Despite these advantages, the closed-loop system suffers from the occurrence of sliding modes, leading to unacceptable rises in the switching frequency. An adaptation of this control law is proposed in this paper to overcome this problem, and the adopted strategy is based on the introduction of hysteresis in the switching law. Moreover, the extension to Boost converters in parallel is also shown, with the attractive property of each converter only needing local measurements for global stabilization of the system. A comparison with the hysteresis current control method is conducted in simulations.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121513492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
