In addition, the efficiency and the reliability of the dc microgrid systems are higher than those of the ac system. However, the protection of the dc microgrid system including interruption and isolation of short-circuit fault currents remains an important concern. The traditional mechanical and hybrid circuit-breakers for dc fault protection have the drawback of slow operation, which requires a high rating power equipment. Solid-State Circuit Breaker (SSCB) is an optimal solution for fast dc fault interruption. Among different SSCBs, Impedance-Source Circuit Breakers (ISCBs) benefit from automatic fault detection and clearance because of using thyristors. In this paper, ISCBs are classified into five categories. These circuit breakers are reviewed by explaining the performance of each and mentioning some of their merits and drawbacks.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125433440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Power irregularity originates from different flow conditions at the propeller disk that, in a quite complex way, causes torque and shaft speed variations. In this paper, the more adequate storage system is identified by relating storage performances with the period of the sea waves that suggests the employment of a threshold frequency, which allows choosing between two electrical energy storage technologies, namely supercapacitor and battery.This study is carried out for a Ro-Pax ferry powered by an electrical motor. Numerical simulations of ship dynamics in irregular seas, combined with propeller behaviour in waves, allow the estimation of the power propulsion spectra. The analysis of these numerical outcomes discloses that the power fluctuations due to irregular sea are characterized by frequencies higher than the threshold frequency. Therefore, these results indicate the suitability of supercapacitor in minimizing the irregularity of electrical power requested to the electrical power system.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122717100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new dynamic model in d-q reference frame is firstly obtained in which the model consists of only the state variables of the MMC upper or lower arms. Using the dynamic model, the steady-state components of the proposed control strategy are attained supposing the zero value for the MMC arm current reference dynamics. The Lyapunov theory is employed to reach the dynamic components of proposed controller with Lyapunov coefficients that can be unlimited negative and finite positive values. The Lyapunov coefficients are assessed through three-dimension curves based on the alterations of the MMC state variable errors and the dynamic of the errors while the Lyapunov coefficient interval is extended. The results achieved from MATLAB/SIMULINK environment verify the capability of proposed control strategy for providing stable operation of MT MMC-HVDC system.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125470841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper focuses on modelling SiC technology-based off-board robotic chargers for electric vehicles (EVs) and the design of its robust model predictive control (MPC). The three-phase active front-end (AFE) converter topology is considered on modelling and predictive model-based control design for off-board charger grid-to-vehicle (G2V) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) modes. The control system consists of active-reactive power control and ensures power conversion for charging and discharging batteries. The aim is to enhance the power quality by achieving the targeted grid current total harmonic distortion (THD) and unity power factor (PF). Predictive model-based simulation is developed in MATLAB for optimum control design to validate the control performances. The 75kWSiC off-board charger simulation results are demonstrated to investigate the dynamic performance. The THD of line current <2% and PF>99% are obtained with MPC control.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125533481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic design and sizing of the components commonly rely on steady-state calculations, neglecting the interactions between the propulsion system components. An adequately tailored simulation-based approach is beneficial to ensure the design fulfills the operating requirements in the advanced design phases. Time-domain simulation provides information otherwise unavailable with standard design tools. Moreover, the decision-making process involved in modeling the system and developing the simulation tool shares several similarities with the actual design of the physical system. This paper proposes a simulation model of the propulsion system of a conventional submarine. The theoretical aspects, hypotheses, and simplifications are first discussed. The proposed approach is then applied to a case study to show the potential benefits arising from dynamic simulation when evaluating the performance of a conventional submarine unit.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130413937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The particular design of a low-voltage cell for a transformerless static synchronous series compensator has unequal thermal conditions for the power modules because the flowing cooling air is heat up by the first half-bridge, and temperature under the second power module is 10 degrees centigrade higher than for the first one. In this paper it is suggested to redistribute the switching losses between power modules by choosing proper transition between positive or negative voltage and the zero-voltage state. This allows to shift losses to the coldest power module and decrease the maximum silicon temperature of the hottest one. The proposed method helped to equalize temperatures of the hottest diodes and decrease the maximum temperature by 10 degrees centigrade under rated load conditions.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129893413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This allows adversaries to manipulate controlled processes by forging or modifying process values in the Modbus protocol data unit (PDU), potentially causing damage to IACSs. In this paper, we propose the use of a misuse-based intrusion detection system (IDS) to detect out-of-bound process values and in that way make it difficult for an adversary to manipulate process values. To test the feasibility of this approach, a cyber-physical system was created, simulating an IACS water treatment plant. The implemented rule-based alarms and warnings were based on the industrial process and an adversary threat model, focusing on the process values of the IACS. This approach shows a promise as an additional safety mechanism to standard IACS cybersecurity solutions.","PeriodicalId":365235,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132073252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
