His music has been earmarked by social commentators and fans alike as a weapon of social change, because it speaks truth to power and institutions at all times and at levels on socio-political ills that affect the masses in the society. This study, therefore, alludes that Ras Kimono is a mirror of Old Testament Prophets, who were active and spontaneous at critical times of national perils; who doubled as reformers and national advisors, alongside being seers. The purpose of this study is to highlight and attempt to re-awaken the nationalist consciousness among other themes of his arts which is lacking in post-colonial African States like Nigeria. The concern and significance of this research work bothers on the question of whether the Nigerian government and citizenry had and has ever taken his message into serious consideration in the light everyday realities which reflect some of the fears expressed by Ras Kimono in his music. Study engages in a critical assessment of the songs of Ras Kimono towards identifying in them national policies on politics, governance, religious pluralism and national cohesion as embedded in his works. The study adopts the performance and the Wallesteinian theories of nationalism as theoretical frameworks.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128210603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper will demonstrate how Paul exhorts the church in Ephesus to pray for all people, including kings, in order to fulfill God's mission of bringing salvation to all humanity in the text under consideration. In the same vein, Christians in Nigeria must equally pray for themselves and civil leaders in order to exercise their mission in a country riddled with ills that dehumanize the image of God in the human person. To elaborate on the meaning of this passage, the grammatical structure of the text will be examined. This article argues that if 1Tim. 2:1-7 is read and understood, Christians in Nigeria would know that authority comes from God to humans, therefore they would appreciate and pray for civil authorities. Hence, the work uses contextual exegetical approach. This method combines rhetorical and literary analysis in the quest for theological meaning. Furthermore, it is a synchronic approach, this is because, it seeks to co-ordinate the different levels of meaning, the literary and theological, the historical and the hermeneutical with a view to drawing out the meaning and message of biblical text at the level of its composition and for today.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130492232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a backlash to student fashion on campus with growing incidences of immodest dressing, most tertiary institutions particularly in Nigeria introduced dress standards. Scholars have elaborated on how fashion has been used to negotiate social boundaries of power, identity, status, gender, etc.They differed on the approval/acceptability and disapproval/unacceptability of the institutional control over clothing behaviour of adults. This article underscores the role fashion plays as an effective driver of social control and hegemony. Also, by underpinning sartorial practices in conformity to established institutional expectations and standards of appropriate nuances of formal dressing in institutions of higher learning. From an ethnographic standpoint, the study analysed the institutional standards of formal dressing or dress codes of different tertiary institutions in Nigeria as posted on their websites in addition to the participant method. This information is equally published in the students′ handbooks of these institutions. The post-structural Foucaultian approach to Discipline and Punishment is applied as an analytical framework. This explains disciplinary power as a mechanism of social control of the body in contemporary society through conformity to approved dress standards in a formal environment like the university. It is argued that the framework provides an understanding of the significance of social control which may be hampered by misconceptions about what other people think of clothing norms.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131026756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Respondents are people with leadership positions in 0rganizations. Three hundred and fourteen respondents were sampled answered questions structured in 5-point Likert scale. Data were analysed using descriptive statistical methods. Majority of the respondents agreed that leaders should set goals and targets; carry everyone along for a peaceful, progressive society. Majority of respondents too, strongly disagreed that members of a society must always carry out leader’s orders without asking questions. High number of the respondents also strongly agreed that a leader should have good communication skills; be strategic, emotionally intelligent, and always use positive phrases devoid of ambiguous expressions. Possibly, leaders can communicate to the society in their indigenous language. Language shapes the society; good leaders should apply polite strategies in their communication with citizens, this enhances effective communication and helps the leader to gain acceptability for growth and development in the society.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126915607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examines the ways in which political and ideological undertones were conveyed in political speeches, as well as how texts reproduce and maintain power and unequal power relations. In order to understand how language shapes and maintains power relationships and ideological structures the study employs the principles of critical discourse analysis by Norman Fairclough. Critical Discourse Analysis helps us to see how specific language techniques produce, enact, and legitimise power relations. The study found out that the aspirant used the expression to reflect both good self-ideology and negative self-ideology in order to neutralise the asymmetrical power relationships that exist between his group and the other groups within the APC at the point of liberalising power. It was a declarative. Typically, this resulted in the other aspirants’ power being politically diminished. The aspirant also used discourse structures that have implications for ideology as weapons of persuasion and pleading, positive self-representation of “Emi\", meaning \"I”, negotiation and personality projection. The researchers conclude that language of politics has the power to weave visions and “imaginaries” that can alter, obfuscate, and politically interpret realities.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131142934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Domestic credit to private sector (DCPS), Exchange rate (EXR), Self-employment (SEEM), Total exports ((TEX), Total imports (TIM) and inflation rate (INFR)were used as dimensions of the independent variable while Real gross domestic product (RGDP) as the dependent variable. Annual time series data were obtained from secondary sources including the CBN annual statistical bulletin, World Bank development indicators. The Eview9 Statistical Software was employed to analyze the data empirically. The Unit root test shows that real gross domestic product, domestic credit to private sector, exchange rate, self-employment, total exports and total imports are all stationary after first difference I(1) while inflation rate was stationary at level I(0). The data were analyzed using the Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL). The results of the ARDL estimates indicate that in the long run self-employment and total exports coefficients were positively signed and statistically significant which means that increase in self-employment and total exports in Nigeria will increase real gross domestic product (Economic growth) while total imports turned up with a negative sign and also statistically significant. It portends that total import has a negative impact on economic growth and development in Nigeria in the long run. The study recommends amongst others that government should promote entrepreneurship by providing credit and grants to encourage self-employment. Government should also encourage import substitution, promote exportation of locally made goods as this has positive impact on economic growth and development in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126787549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To surmount these problems and achieve the needed transformation, there is a need to raise marketplace ambassadors as God’s divine tools for engaging the pluralistic culture. This paper identifies Nigerian society as a pluralistic society and the marketplace as the seat of power and authority where real societal change can occur in a pluralistic society. The paper underscores that “Christ’s ambassadors in the marketplace” are the agents of change; however, much emphasis is placed on raising marketplace ambassadors in Nigeria. The paper highlights some biblical examples of marketplace ambassadors, critical areas of society where churches need to raise marketplace ambassadors and how the churches can equip business leaders for effective changes in Nigerian society. Finally, the paper addresses some peculiar challenges associated with marketplaces in Nigeria and recommends a means of overcoming such difficulties.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115002233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In John 13:1-17, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. Scholars have offered numerous interpretations of this pericope in their efforts to provide a better understanding of the pericope. However, putting together the grammatical, literary, philosophical, and theological analysis of some interpretations can be difficult because they do not fully capture the Johannine presentation of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet at the Last Supper. This piqued our interest, and we decided to contribute to the ongoing debate about whether Christians should wash their feet today. This article contends that the Johannine hupodeigma (see v. 15) implies more than an example for imitation, but rather a concrete and fundamental sign of Jesus’ perfect form of love by which Jesus victoriously conquers the world, completes the mission, and offers a part in his life for ‘his own’, thus challenging them to foster servant leadership. The Historical-Critical method is used in this article, with diachronic and synchronic approaches. It addresses literary issues in the text such as delimitation, textual analysis, and an examination of the text’s remote and immediate contexts. The importance of this work lies in the fact that it will add to the existing literature on John 13:1-17 and open up new avenues for future research on the subject.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"244 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132318751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Essentially, Nigerian exchange rate policy has been aimed toward safeguarding the Naira against continual loss of its privileged position in the global monetary system from time to time. As a result, different exchange rate regimes have been adopted. Therefore, Exchange Rate Regimes and the Performance of the Real Sector in Nigeria was studied from 1970-2019.The output of real sector variables (agricultural sub-sector, industrial sub-sector, and services sub-sector) was examined using the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag Model technique. Nominal exchange rate and dummy variables of Regulated and Deregulated regimes were used as independent variables, while, controlling for net exports, inflation, bank credit to the private sector, foreign direct investment, external reserve. The results of the estimation revealed that regulated regime periods had a negative but insignificant association with real sector variables, while deregulated regime periods had a positive but insignificant relationship. By implication, the perpetual loss in value of Naira exchange rate remain a source of concern hence; the need to formulate a reliable exchange rate policy that can stand the test of time in Nigeria. In addition, the regulated exchange rate regime was loosely fixed with temporal government intervention in the foreign exchange market. Such monetary interventions have not yielded the desired results. The study recommended that a stronger exchange rate policy be developed that achieves the needs of primary exchange rate users, as well as that more bank credits be extended to the real and export sectors in order to produce high-quality outputs for export rather than relying solely on monetary intervention strategies by the Nigerian Central Bank.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126246869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the active and masterful connivance of Rebekah, Jacob, the younger of the two, deceitfully obtained from their father, Isaac, the final blessing he had intended for Esau, his first son. The ugly result is that, on account of the threat to his life by Esau, Jacob had to flee into exile, to Laban his uncle. However, after 20 years, he had to return to Canaan, at the behest of Yahweh, but had also to confront his otherwise bitter and estranged brother in the process, as narrated in Gen 32:3-33:20. Thus, although Jacob was initially highly dreadful of this encounter, the two brothers admirably reconciled during that meeting thereby leaving an example of perennial worth to all human beings. This article deeply dwells on this narrative in order to bring out its important details and emphases. The method employed in the study is sociological-theological. This is augmented with the Historical Critical Method of Exegesis so as to interpret the text under study. Through these methods, this paper highlights the fact that even though reconciliation is often difficult to arrive at in the face of conflicts, it is ultimately a blessing and greatly rewarding when achieved. On that score, it becomes highly recommended that all toe the praise-worthy line of these two brothers in the face of conflicts so as to avoid war or aggression which is its unwholesome alternative. This recommendation is especially pertinent to Nigeria, the fast-crumbling giant of Africa, where Christians, especially those in government, are particularly called upon to help to engender this national spirit among its citizens – an aspect that has sadly eluded them since the country’s independence. Significantly, therefore, this paper is a strong appreciation of the reconciliatory example of these twin brothers, with the suggestion, after going down the memory lane, that it is only such a development that would help to move Nigeria forward as a nation from its present debilitating quagmire and national decay.","PeriodicalId":364803,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"159 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115687747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
