Since the adoption of the Bamako Initiative in 1987 in Burkina Faso, we have noted the presence of community representatives in the decision-making space of health districts. They participate alongside government representatives in the decision-making process. This article aims to analyze the influence of the different actors involved in the governance of a health district in Burkina Faso. A total of 32 people were included in the study. These people were divided into three main groups: members of the district team (n=9), managers of the government's decentralized technical services (n=8) and community representatives (n=15). The data were collected through individual interviews. The content analysis method was used. NVIVO software was used for data processing. The results indicate that community representatives have little influence in the decision-making process at the health district level. Indeed, all the resources that allow actors to influence exchanges are beyond their reach. Language skills, expertise, and economic capital are the main resources that are mobilized in this space. They are easily mobilized in interactions by both health district officials and community representatives. As a result, the views of the communities are poorly taken into account in the governance of health districts in Burkina Faso. The article notes that mastery of the language of communication, economic situation, and expertise on health issues give more scope for action to health district officials than to communities.","PeriodicalId":363531,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Research","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115795829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In achieving this objective, the study employs the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) to evaluate the short-run and long-run impacts as well as the Granger causality tests to examine the nature of causality. The ARDL bounds test reveals the presence of long-run co-integration among the variables. The ARDL technique discloses that DMB credit allocation to the manufacturing sector has a negative and insignificant effect on economic growth in both the first and second lags. The ARDL technique also shows that DMB credit allocation to the agricultural sector has a positive and insignificant effect on economic growth in Nigeria. The granger causality test shows that there is no causal relationship between DMB credit to the manufacturing and agricultural sectors and economic growth. The study recommends that the government through financial authorities must ensure that DMB credits are monitored and channeled appropriately to the agricultural and manufacturing sectors so as to prevent such funds from entering private pockets.","PeriodicalId":363531,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Research","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121980644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Exploratory research was employed; focus group discussion (FGD) and key informant interview (KII) were used to collect primary data from the respondents. The data generated were transcribed and recorded verbatim (word-for-word account of verbal interview) and they were converted into written form. Data were enumerated and thematic analysis and categorization were provided. Secondary data were sourced from the internet and relevant books. This study adopted the social theory. The findings of the study revealed that the destruction of farmlands by cattle is one of the major causes of the farmers-herdsmen crisis in the north-central zone. It also revealed that the harassment of herders by the host community, that is, the youths, is another factor which instigates animosity thereby leading to a farmers and herdsmen crisis in the North-Central zone. It discovered that farmers-herders conflict has reduced the quality of the social relationship between both the farmers and herdsmen, and resulted in the loss of human life, houses and properties worth billions of naira in the zone of North-Central. The paper recommended that government at all levels and critical stakeholders should exercise good leadership and political will by bringing the warring parties to a dialogue table while meting punishment and rewards where necessary so as to restore peace, order and trust in the populace. The level of destruction incurred by the warring parties should be assessed, and both governmental and non-governmental organisations should work towards financial assistance for the victims of farmer-herdsmen conflicts. The findings corroborate the gaps which the researchers intended to fill.","PeriodicalId":363531,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Research","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130204034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A cross sectional survey was conducted on a sample of owners of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Bayelsa State. Primary data were collected using a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale. The sample was 313 owners of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) taxpayers that were purposely selected. The data collected were presented with the use of descriptive statistics, while bivariate and univariate analysis was used in the estimation of the regression model developed for the study. The results from the analysis revealed a positive and significant relationship between print form tax education and voluntary tax compliance; positive and significant relationship between electronic form tax education and voluntary tax compliance; positive and significant relationship between stakeholder sensitization programme and voluntary tax compliance; positive and significant relationship between tax fairness and penalty on voluntary tax compliance in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The study concluded that tax education, tax fairness and tax penalty influence the level of tax compliance of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The study, therefore, recommended amongst others that the government through the relevant tax authorities should evaluate and re-integrate tax education programs feedback on tax behaviors to progressively increase revenue generation.","PeriodicalId":363531,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126175371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The external environment of foreign policy is the totality of extraneous factors that influence and shape a country’s foreign policy. The international system was remarkably altered by the historic end of the Cold war. The post Cold War facilitated changes in the international system that have made international relations more complex and challenging. Globalisation, international pressures for democratisation and respect for human rights; changes in the international system and Nigeria’s commitments to bilateral and multilateral agreements were identified as some of the external sources of influence on the country’s foreign policy. These developments have challenged and tremendously altered the dynamics of Nigeria’s foreign policy. Neo-liberal theory was employed as the framework of analysis. Three research questions were raised and hypothesis. Relevant literature were reviewed according to the variables of the study. The study adopted an expost facto research design with a stratified and purposive sampling technique to select a total of 500 academic staff from the two major universities in the state (Universty of Calabar and Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH ). A questionnaire developed by the researcher and was well validated and pilot tested using Cronbach alpha reliability estimate whose coefficients for the four sub scales ranged from.78-81 was used for data collection. Data were collected by the researchers and shall be analysed using simple percentage and the result showed that academic staff adherence to ethical principles of informed consent, confidentiality and beneficence has been very poor. It was recommended that staff should be trained on how to apply ethical considerations in their research practices. That papers that are published must show how ethical considerations are followed before accepted for publications. That this aspect of research must be properly emphasized in the research lessons.","PeriodicalId":363531,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Research","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116934076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study explored the predictive influence of psychosocial factors - shyness, loneliness, social maladjustment, gender and school-related variables on smartphone addiction among students in selected Nigerian Universities. In this cross-sectional survey, data were collected from 498 undergraduates {255 (51.2%) males and 243 (48.8%) females} with a mean age of participants at 18.30 (SD = 2.03), using psychometrically-robust measures of shyness, loneliness, social maladjustment and smartphone addiction. It was hypothesised that high scores on shyness, loneliness and social maladjustment will be associated with higher levels of smartphone addiction and that school-related variables would significantly influence smartphone addiction among university students. Results indicated a 17.1% prevalence of smartphone addiction among the participants. Results also indicated that loneliness (β = 0.20; t = 4.57; p <.05) and social maladjustment (β = 0.26; t = 5.94; p <.05) significantly independently predicted smartphones while shyness did not (β = 0.03; t = 0.69; p >.05). Jointly, the three variables had a significant prediction of smartphone addiction {F (3,491) = 22.93, adj.R2 = .12, p <.01}. It is recommended that psychologists and school counsellors should be more involved in the emotional well-being of university students. Parents and other stakeholders should help students/children by observing those showing signs of loneliness, shyness and social maladjustment, and engaging them in robust, non-evaluative social interactions with a view to minimising resorting to excessive use of smartphones.","PeriodicalId":363531,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Research","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125773066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The oil price volatility in the international oil market in the last decade has led to a substantial rise in the demand for renewable energy sources. Nevertheless, the provision of energy needed for growth and at the same time mitigating against its hazardous effects on the environment is a major world problem. The paper used secondary data from the World Bank data bank from 1990 to 2020 for its analysis. It used Toda-Yamamoto augmented granger causality test to test for the nature of the relationship between the two variables and Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds test to examine the impact of renewable energy consumption on economic growth. The study found a bi-directional relationship between the variables. The regression results also showed a significant positive impact of renewable energy consumption on economic growth. The work concluded that renewable energy consumption enhances economic growth in Nigeria. It therefore recommends that the government should encourage investments in the renewable energy sector by providing a conducive business environment and also create awareness on the importance of the use of renewable energy in the country.","PeriodicalId":363531,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129540087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study aimed at assessing the effects of flood on socio-economic activities in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State using GIS techniques. The study employed questionnaires, oral interviews, personal observations and descriptive statistics to analyse data using pie charts and graphs to present data. ArcGIS 10.1 was used to analyse the flood vulnerability using LandSat images. The flood vulnerability analysis of Karim-Lamido indicates that about 80% of the area is flood vulnerable and the major stream order in Karim-Lamido is between 3-5. Results also revealed that rainfall received annually in the area and the proneness of the area to flood. In addition, loss of agricultural products, properties and lives were revealed as some of the negative effects of flooding in the study area. The result also revealed that the major effects of flood are the washing away of the community’s farms lands and their businesses equipment. Furthermore, the researchers recommend that the resettlement scheme programs should be embarked on by the government to resettle most of the communities in the study area. Additionally, for good area planning, individuals, corporate entities, and the government should provide adequate funding for disaster management organisations. Furthermore, a local flood warning system needs to be created. This will go a long way towards educating and preparing the people of Karim-Lamido for major flooding.","PeriodicalId":363531,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Research","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127276670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
