This assessment is core measure for educational effectiveness required by any specialized accreditation body. Learning analytics is a powerful mean to inform learners, instructors and educational institutions about the student's performance and the progress of the learning process and to support the student success. Many useful LA tools are available in different LMS platforms such as Moodle. They are used to report student performance in specific activity. However there is a lack of integrated LA tool that can assess course learning outcomes and predict the student performance and achievement against specific outcomes. In this paper, we propose a new framework for developing learning analytics tool to assess these outcomes in the well-known open source LMS Moodle. Our framework is based on direct measure of the course learning outcomes through embedded examination of each outcome and its associated LMS activities, then to analyze the result in order to evaluate the achievement of program outcomes and to propose improvement for the coming semester where the studied course will be offer.","PeriodicalId":360311,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130247357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students can use smart technologies and social application not only for their free time but also for education purposes. Computer, financial and economic literacy represents an inseparable part of current lives. The introduction to the topic and the literature review form the first part of the paper. The main part of the paper covers two areas. The first one is based on the introduction of the subjects \"Basics of Finance\" and \"Managerial Accounting\" at the Faculty of Informatics and Management of University of Hradec Králové. The next part is focused on the examination results of all students groups and on the utilization of LMS Blackboard by students in selected groups of students in connection with a change in the use of technology in the educational process. Motivation of students, final recommendations and discussion are presented at the end of the article. The aim of the paper is to evaluate and compare students' study results in the subjects \"Basics of Finance\" and \"Managerial Accounting\" and monitor and evaluate utilization of LMS Blackboard with the tools by students in the subjects. On the basis of gained results it is necessary to reject the hypothesis that it is expected that part-time students who have higher experience from the real life and company environment will have better results in the examination. Despite the fact that part-time students reached better results in examination after implementation of e-course in Blackboard with supportive study and testing materials in subject Basics of finance in subject Managerial accounting they got worse results.","PeriodicalId":360311,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129004032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among these are six non-technical skills such as discerning ethical, legal, security and social issues to the ability to engage in continuing professional development. Here we present the first and only direct method and measurement tool in the literature to measure the six ABET Computing Accreditation Commission non-technical skills for both course and program level assessment. The Computing Professional Skills Assessment is a discussion-based performance task, conducted through asynchronous online discussions, designed to elicit students' knowledge and application of professional skills. Our trial has shown that the method can successfully measure the skills. To acquire this skill, students must have repetitive exercises that invoke higher order thinking. The social media usage comparative case exam uses the framework of a case-based exam to provide both learning and assessment. The pre-exam consists of the time-consuming analysis of social media usage while students have access to help in using analytics tools. The actual exam uses progressive cognitive (Bloom) level questions that have a core of correct answers which allow for student responses to be consistently graded in a timely manner. The paper describes the thought process behind this exam format that can be applied to context-driven engineering courses.","PeriodicalId":360311,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127147619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, such systems can be efficiently implemented in current Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) comprising of either soft-core or hard-core CPUs. The design of an IoT system comprises of developments in both hardware and software whereas a productive IoT Systems Designer should have numerous competencies in various independent computer engineering fields together with a number of non-technical competencies such as interpersonal competencies, transferable skills, etc. This paper describes a course which is based on open-source tools and methodologies that has been utilized efficiently in a number of post-graduate programs in two European countries (Greece, and Spain). The course lasts only one week (5 hours a day) and it allows computer engineering graduates with different specialties to implement an FPGA-based complete real-world IoT system as a course project.","PeriodicalId":360311,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON)","volume":"35 18","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114046494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Software developers need suitable criteria to handle computer interfaces because of the diversity within the `digital population' and it seems natural that educators should answer the professional questions posed by software designers. In this paper we report on the experience of a vocational course on object-oriented design, which - among other topics - provides professional criteria to students who are required to plan a large assortment of computer interfaces from panels to object lists, from animated images to social web pages. In the first stage, lessons on HCI illustrate the psychological portraits of computer users. Second, the lessons deduce practical guidelines from those profiles. Finally the students learn the technical contents regarding HCI design. The concise psychological and social criteria which guide the students to prepare the visual interfaces constitute the innovative contribution of the present work at the didactic level. The initial lessons on HCI go beyond mere technical training and it may be said that they improve the professional culture of students. The feedback from participants appeared very positive.","PeriodicalId":360311,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124572379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, to properly assess the programming skills of such people, the anticipated difficulty level of these coding questions should be estimated and kept in mind throughout the preparation of such exams. Poor results coming out of these assessment tools may not be entirely attributed to exam takers, but rather to the poor design of the exams that fail to gauge the competency levels of each student via the ranked levels of difficulty of questions on the exam. In this research, we argue that we can develop a predictive tool, named the Predicted Difficulty Index (PDI), that is derived from the structure of the sample solutions to rank the questions based on the difficulty that students may encounter while solving them. Such prior knowledge about questions' complexity should help instructors assign questions the proper points and place them in a progressive order throughout the exam leading to a more reliable evaluation tool.","PeriodicalId":360311,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126918416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
