In my study, I found out that the conflict between the human characters and the cyborg characters in the movie revolve around discrimination which is caused by the conflict itself. I would also like to explore what are the kinds of discrimination within the movie so that I can determine the cause of it and with the research, to learn about not to discriminate. For the analysis of my study, I will use the theory of Posthumanism by Cary Wolfe, which implies that the process of Posthuman transformation includes cyborg enhancements to improve the capabilities of human beings. I also found that from these so-called cyborg enhancements, comes discrimination from the people who think negatively towards the process of the enhancements, and thus discriminate against them. Toxicity among female friends has its effects on the victims. This leads the victim to normalize toxic friendship behavior, experience loneliness, and have lower self-worth compared to people who are not the victim of the said phenomenon. This creative work is written in a collection of lyrical poetry, portraying the cause and effects of toxic female friendship. There are fifteen poems in total, with six poems portraying the perpetrator’s envy (‘PART I: Side-eyes on Shiny Emblems’) and another nine poems expressing loneliness and lower self-worth of the victim (‘PART II: Lone to the Bone, Too Gloom to Bloom’). This creative work, ‘Thorns Covered in Petals up on a Pedestal’ shows how vicious a hint of envy can be, thus the terrible outcomes it brings in a friendship among females, especially to the victim.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"25 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140265963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

What terms of address do the informants of Chinese Indonesians in Surabaya prefer to be addressed at home? Why do they prefer to be addressed that way? How do their terms of address preferences show their Chineseness as Chinese Indonesians? The research used two informants of Surabayanese Chinese Indonesians, one (male) is from the totok family and the other one (female) is from the peranakan family. Qualitative approach combined with semi-structured and open-ended interview are used. Thematic analysis is used to analyze the findings. The findings show that the family’s background played the important role in the terms of address preferences. The one from totok family still maintained Chinese terms of address, while the one from peranakan family had already abandoned the Chinese terms of address.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122188687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, if it significantly affects our daily lives, this might be a sign of fear of being judged or evaluated by people around us. This creative work, At Eighteen, intends to raise awareness of social phobia in adolescence by discussing the cause, effects, and a way to recover. All of these are based on theories by Rapee and Heimberg’s cognitive-behavioral model and Stallard’s cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The work is a screenplay about a high school writing champion, Elizabeth, who dreamed of attending college. Her journey was not easy as she moved to her mother’s hometown, transferred to public school, and failed to fulfill her own and her surroundings expectations with her writing skills. After seeing her avoiding people many times, Elizabeth was diagnosed with social phobia because she was afraid of getting negative evaluations. She recovered after attending several therapy sessions that helped change her dysfunctional thoughts to positive ones. This work falls under the drama genre to show Elizabeth’s personal life story and process of overcoming obstacles.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133834636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Social media is commonly used by everyone in this modern era, but not a lot of users are aware of the danger and risk it can bring to us and social media addiction is an unhealthy reliance on online platforms. By using Erik Erikson’s psychological development theory, this thesis will explore the reasons, causes and effects on why an individual is addicted to social media. It will emphasize using the fourth, fifth, sixth as well as the final stage of Erikson’s psychological development stages to support the story building. Using modern tragedy as its genre, this thesis will show the story of Nathan and Sydney's social media addiction and how eventually the two characters end up crossing paths in the real world.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"49 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133341151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The writer conducted this study using the theory of translation problems and strategies by Baker (2018). This writer conducted this study using a qualitative approach in which she collected and analyzed the data herself. The findings of this study support Baker’s (2018) statement that some of the problems that may appear during translation process are culture-specific concept, the source language concept is not lexicalized in the target language, the source and target language make different distinction in meaning, the target language lacks a specific term (hyponym), differences in expressive meaning, and differences in frequency and purpose of using specific forms. In addition, Text in the source language is translated in several different strategies namely translation by more general word, translation by more neutral or less expressive word, translation by paraphrase using related words, translation by paraphrase using unrelated words, translation using a loan word or loan word plus explanation, and translation by omission. More studies involving other types of humor and other translation theories are recommended to create variations in this field.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127777300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Marriage is important for Chinese Indonesians as it is considered to be a rite of passage. Due to globalization, many young Chinese Indonesians have little knowledge about Chinese traditions and tend to adopt Western wedding traditions as something more modern. Hence, Chinese Indonesian find new ways to convey their cultural identity as both Chinese and modern by using Chinese and Western wedding traditions. This article aims to identify the elements of Western culture that are commonly used in Chinese Indonesian weddings and the reasons they choose to use those elements. Western cultural elements commonly used in Chinese-Indonesian weddings can be seen in the wedding rituals, attire, and decorations. This article suggests that Chinese Indonesians who uses Western and Chinese wedding traditions create a new cultural identity as modern Chinese Indonesian. A hybrid culture emerges to form a contemporary or modern Chinese Indonesian wedding.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115473774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It tells the story of a woman who works in a beauty company who gets different treatment because her appearance does not meet beauty standards. This research was conducted to reveal how society's attitude treats women who do not comply with beauty standards and to find out Rara's reasons for refusing to follow the beauty standards set by society. This study uses the theory of lookism and sizeism. Where patriarchal values have internalized women to participate in discriminating against Rara or women who do not follow beauty standards. The discrimination Rara received from society was discrimination against body shape, skin color and the way she appeared in public. After following the beauty standards, Rara feels uncomfortable and conflicts often occur between her and those closest to her. Rara decides to refuse to follow the standard of beauty that has been set by society with self-acceptance and seeks her happiness.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125431664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, often better education in Indonesia comes with a heavy price tag that eliminates working class people from accessing it. This thesis attempts to find out why the working class people are economically discriminated and how they face the discrimination. Using screenplay and young adult dystopian genre, this thesis tries to show the side effects of said economic inequality if taken to the extreme. With Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of school as cultural reproduction, the working class students, including the protagonist Thalia, are discriminated against because they are seen as threats to their resources. To reciprocate, Thalia challenges the system, which sparks a rebellion inside the school. The worldbuilding aspect of the genre is based on Pierre Bourdieu's concepts of social space, capitals, and agency. Thalia from the working class utilizes her agency to face the discrimination.","PeriodicalId":359834,"journal":{"name":"K@ta Kita","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125849426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
