The DBD excimer lamp is an attractive source of UV because of its cost and radiation power. The proposed converter is conceived to control the UV radiation by programming different lamp current intensities, duty cycles and frequencies. For the converter synthesis, a capacitive electric equivalent model of the DBD is used. A simulation of the converter and its control analysis is presented.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133286248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work is based on \"Heimholte Integral Ray Trace Method\" for the simulation of the wave propagation between two transducers. The validations were performed comparing the simulation results with the collected data from an ultrasonic meter placed at a calibration bench working with air. As input parameters for the simulation were taken the pressure, temperature, humidity and air flow, which were measured during experimental tests carried out with the ultrasonic meter.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132562852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work an estimation technique is introduced for Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems, when the only information on the output variable consists of the time instants at which it has reached certain fixed threshold value. This is motivated by the fact that these measurements can be easily obtained with robust and inexpensive binary sensors (detectors). It is shown that, theoretically, and despite of the scarcity of the information given by the detectors, it is possible to reconstruct, after a finite number of samples, the exact value of the state variable. This is true for almost every sampling time sequence, even if the Shannon sampling theorem is not satisfied.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115640258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is capable of reproducing audio messages that announce the denomination of a banknote in front of a smartphone camera by processing each frame of its continuous filming. This work takes its theoretical basis from the Digital Image Processing (DD?) techniques and primarily from the image recognition method known as Eigenfaces, which is based on the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) mathematical theory. Tests on two different Nokia smartphones show an accuracy rate of 99.8% and a processing speed of at least 7 frames per second.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124646330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A third model is proposed and tested in simulation due to lack of appropriated real data; it includes inputs that excite the system and makes the estimation process more manageable. The model parameters were estimated using a genetic algorithm, which gives a combination of parameters used in simulation to compare outputs with real data and decide, using a cost function, which parameters are better. Comparing the models, the Lotka-Volterra model provides better adjustment but with unrealistic assumptions, while saturation model represents a system with real assumptions but the fit is not very high.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129286403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The diversity of instruments in the Learning Styles in a certain way has prevented the educational approach based on theories of learning styles take stronger teaching, has also made it lose validity in the eyes of the educational community, making it more difficult and less implement relevant educational processes based on learning styles. Making a historical in the evolution of Learning Styles, we see that some studies have compiled the various approaches to learning styles depending on the item to stress, psychological, cognitive, and so on. But little is known about studies that been devoted to relate the models proposed categorizations Learning Styles. Based on the foregoing, the study of the possible relationship between the categories proposed by Grasha — Riechmann (1976), Kolb (1974) and Alonso, Gallego and Honey (1991) was the primary purpose of this project and for this purpose test applied to the respective classification proposed by the same authors to sixty-three (63) students in engineering, then this information is analyzed to look for possible correlations between the ratings result of applying the three tests on students. The analysis of the project is implemented through the correlation, which is a statistical process that results in the index of relationship between two or more variables and allows us to see if the process is somehow a characteristic equation is linear or no. Here the correlation is used to relate the categories of learning styles and determine its value, then graphing the result and then get the equation that characterizes the process of Learning Styles relationship.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129248158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
