One of the major reasons which makes this task particularly challenging is the fact that, being graduates of various high schools, they join the university having very different levels of English. Some may have started English in kindergarten, while others only in high school. Some speak it fluently; others may barely be able to introduce themselves despite having studied it for a similar number of years as the former. This paper takes a look at the major challenges teachers of English in university are faced with when teaching multilevel classes, and attempts to offer some suggestions as to how to deal with this situation while at the same time keeping the quality of the teaching-learning process.","PeriodicalId":359151,"journal":{"name":"IOP Conf. The samples were subjected to variable internal pressure which was increased from 0 to 600-800 bar (up to the breaking of the pipe), being used the hydraulic oil, type HM46. The outer diameter of the tested pipes was measured successive for each increase of pressure with 100 bars, thus being determined the flow curve of the pipe material characterized by the elasto-plastic behavior and a tenacious failure. It was found that thin pipes, with the ratio between the inner and outer diameter less than 1.1, shows a different flow curve compare to pipes with thick walls, having the ratio between the inner and outer diameter greater than 1.1, the deformations being about two times higher. The rheological models of each type of pipes were identified.","PeriodicalId":359151,"journal":{"name":"IOP Conf. The paper presents a method to model a calculus domain based on a bool algebra which uses solid and hollow polygons. The general calculus relations of the geometrical characteristics that are widely used in mechanical engineering are tested using several shapes of the calculus domain in order to draw conclusions regarding the most effective methods to discretize the domain. The paper also tests the results of several CAD commercial software applications which are able to compute the geometrical characteristics, being drawn interesting conclusions. The tests were also targeting the accuracy of the results vs. the number of nodes on the curved boundary of the cross section. The study required the development of an original software consisting of more than 1700 computer code lines. In comparison with other calculus methods, the discretization using convex polygons is a simpler approach. Moreover, this method doesn't lead to large numbers as the spline approximation did, in that case being required special software packages in order to offer multiple, arbitrary precision. The knowledge resulted from this study may be used to develop complex computer based models in engineering.","PeriodicalId":359151,"journal":{"name":"IOP Conf. Robotic arms driven by wires have the joint accuracy largely depending on wires rigidity. The joint moment of resistance causes elastic deformation of wires and it is determined by: manipulated object load, weight loads previous to the analyzed joint and inherent resistance moment of joint. Static load analysis emphasizes the particular wires elastic deformation of each driven joint from an elephant's trunk robotic arm with five degrees of freedom. We consider the case of a constant manipulated load. Errors from each driving system of joints are not part of the closed loop system. Thus, precision positioning depends on wires elastic deformation which is about microns and causes angle deviation of joints about tens of minutes of sexagesimal degrees. The closer the joints to base arm the smaller positioning precision of joint. The obtained results are necessary for further compensation made by electronic corrections in the programming algorithm of the elephant's trunk robotic arm to improve accuracy.","PeriodicalId":359151,"journal":{"name":"IOP Conf. The long term effects of pollution on the environment generated by the lack of penalty regulations, have directed the attention of statesmen upon the necessity of the elaboration of normative acts meant to be effective in the continuous fight with it. Maritime transportation generates approximately 4% of the total of the CO2 emissions produced by human activities. This paper is intended to present two methods of estimation of the gases emissions on-board a vessel, methods that are very useful for the crews which are exploiting them. For the determination and the validation of these methods we are going to use the determinations from the tank ship. This ship has as a main propulsion engine Wärtsilä DU Sulzer RT Flex 50 - 6 cylinders that develops a maximal power of 9720 kW and has a permanent monitoring system of the pollutant emissions. The methods we develop here are using the values of the polluting elements from the exhaust gases that are determined at the exit of the vessel from the ship yard, in the framework of the acceptance tests. These values have been introduced within the framework of a matrix in the MATHCAD program. This matrix represents the starting point of the two mentioned methods: the analytical method and the graphical method. During the study we are going to evaluate the development and validation of an analytical tool to be used to determine the standard of emissions aimed at thermal machines on ships. One of the main objectives of this article represents an objective assessment of the expediency of using non-fuels for internal combustion engines in vessels.","PeriodicalId":359151,"journal":{"name":"IOP Conf. We analyse solely the length change of wires as a consequence due inner winding and unwinding on joints for certain values of rotational angles. Variations in wires length entail joint angular displacements. We analyse positioning precision by taking into consideration equations from inverse kinematics of the elephant's trunk robotic arm. The angular displacements of joints are considered into computational method after partial derivation of positioning equations. We obtain variations of wires length at about tenths of micrometers. These variations employ angular displacements which are about minutes of sexagesimal degree and, thus, define positioning precision of elephant's trunk robotic arms. The analytical method is used for determining aftermath design structure of an elephant's trunk robotic arm with inner actuation through wires on positioning precision. Thus, designers could take suitable decisions on accuracy specifications limits of the robotic arm.","PeriodicalId":359151,"journal":{"name":"IOP Conf. One of the main functions of the circuit breaker is to assure protection for the circuits where mounted in for possible overloads of the circuit. The tripping mechanism for the overload protection is based on a bimetal movement during a specific time frame. This movement needs to be controlled and as a solution to control this movement we choose the warm adjustment concept. This concept is meant to improve process capability control and final output. The warm adjustment device design will create a unique adjustment of the bimetal position for each individual breaker, determined when the testing current will flow thru a phase which needs to trip in a certain amount of time. This time is predetermined due to scientific calculation for all standard types of amperages and complies with the IEC 60497 standard requirements.","PeriodicalId":359151,"journal":{"name":"IOP Conf.
