{"title":"[Dental caries among 15-year-old adolescents in Arctic Russia: a systematic review and meta-analysis].","authors":"M A Gorbatova, P A Pochinkova, E A Mitkina, A A Simakova, A M Grjibovski","doi":"10.17116/stomat202410306166","DOIUrl":"10.17116/stomat202410306166","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>The aim of the study is to perform a systematic search, qualitative synthesis, and a meta-analysis of scientific publications on the prevalence and experience of dental caries among 15-year-old adolescents in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>A systematic review based on PRISMA guidelines. The review includes sources that describe the prevalence and intensity of caries in 15-year-old adolescents within the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. Publications from 1998-2023 in English and Russian were searched for using the PubMed and eLIBRARY platforms. In total, 208 publications identified, but only 4 were included in meta-analysis.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The total number of adolescents in the studies included in the review was 1567 with a significant proportion being residents of the Arkhangelsk region. The weighted prevalence of caries was 87.9% (95% CI: 83.7-91.7%). The statistically significant increase was registered only in the city of Norilsk. In Arkhangelsk, the increase in the prevalence of caries was accompanied by a decrease in the activity of the carious process, which was due to a significant decrease in the K component in the structure of the DMFT index.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The review provides the evidence on a high prevalence of caries among 15-year-old adolescents in Arctic Russia. {"title":"[The results of increasing the thickness of soft tissues after using collagen matrices and connective tissue grafts].","authors":"A D Posessor, V A Badalyan, A V Vasilyev","doi":"10.17116/stomat202410306229","DOIUrl":"10.17116/stomat202410306229","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>The study aims: </strong>To evaluate and compare the growth of gingiva around dental implants following the use of collagen matrices and connective tissue grafts (CTG).</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>The study included 80 study participants, who were divided into four groups based on the type of material used to enhance gingival thickness. Two groups utilized collagen matrices, Fibro-Gide and FibroMatrix as materials, while the other two groups utilized CTG obtained from the hard palate or tubercle area of the maxilla as controls. Measurements of gum tissue thickness were obtained before surgery and three- and six-months following surgery using three different methods: mucosa piercing with a spreader and ruler, digital impression, and comparison of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans and digital impressions.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>At six-months examination after the use of grafts from the palate and tubercle, there was a significantly greater increase in gum tissue thickness compared to the use of collagen matrices. The increase was 1.6±0.3 mm and 1.7±0.6 mm for palatal and tubercle grafts, correspondingly, compared to 1.3±0.4 mm for Fibro-Gide and 0.9±0.5 mm for FibroMatrix.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>To increase the thickness of soft tissue it is recommended to use CTG from the tubercle or palate. {"title":"[Mechanical properties of photopolymerisable compositions for the creation of bone and dental tissue equivalents].","authors":"I S Rudik, A V Mironov, V S Kuznetsova, A V Vasilyev","doi":"10.17116/stomat20241030625","DOIUrl":"10.17116/stomat20241030625","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>The aim of the study: </strong>Was to elaborate and assess biocompatible compositions based on oligocarbonate methacrylate filled with hydroxyapatite.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>The manufacturing methods of the compositions are considered, and their polymerization ability, strength and elastic properties are evaluated.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The highest values of hardness and elasticity were found in the composition containing 0.50% by weight of diphenyl (2.4,6-trimethylbenzoate)phosphine oxide and 10% by weight of hydroxyapatite. Its compressive strength was comparable to bone tissue and dental cements.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The described composition can be used as a model system for assessing the physical and mechanical properties of materials used to fill defects in dental tissue and bone.</p>","PeriodicalId":35887,"journal":{"name":"Stomatologiya","volume":"103 6. {"title":"[Pulp revascularization procedure for external inflammatory dental root resorption treatment].","authors":"M V Korolenkova, L Yu Kharkova, M S Rakhmanova","doi":"10.17116/stomat202410302180","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17116/stomat202410302180","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>The aim of the study: </strong>To assess the effectiveness of pulp revascularization procedure in children with external inflammatory root resorption (EIRR) after constant teeth injury.</p><p><strong>Materials and methos: </strong>The study comprised 17 children aged 6-10 years diagnosed with EIRR as a long-term complication of dental trauma in 19 teeth. EIRR was diagnosed with periapical radiographs and CBCT was performed to further assess the pathology extension. Pulp revascularization was carried out in all 19 teeth.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>There was no resorption progression in all cases. EIRR areas were substituted by bone. In 10 from 19 teeth with early stages of root development bone or cement-like tissue ingrowth into the root canal was observed radiologically. {"title":"[The use of fixed expanders with orthodontic miniscrews support in children with mesial occlusion].","authors":"O I Arsenina, S I Abakarov, N V Popova, P I Makhortova, A V Popova, A V Khachieva","doi":"10.17116/stomat202410302161","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17116/stomat202410302161","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>Prevention of the development of pronounced skeletal abnormalities in patients with mesial occlusion.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>Biometric analysis of control and diagnostic models of dentition was performed in 60 patients with dental anomalies before and after treatment in 3 mutually perpendicular planes to identify violations in the formation of dental arches by sagittal and transversal dimensions, and alveolar processes - by vertical dimensions (methods of A. Pont, G. Korkhaus). Measurements of 23 parameters of TRG and sections of CBCT were carried out using the modified Nad-Ars technique with analysis of skeletal parameters before and after treatment. Treatment was carried out using dilators for the upper jaw in combination with a facial mask and further dynamic observation using active retention devices.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The results of treatment showed an increase in the length of the anterior segment of the upper dental arch by 2.8±0.55 mm (<i>p</i><0.05 mm); expansion in the area of temporary molars by 2.85±0.65 mm (<i>p</i><0.05); in the area of permanent molars by 2.75±0.55 mm (<i>p</i><0.05); in the area of the apical basis of HF by 3.82±0.45 mm (<i>p</i><0.05). The length of the lower dental arch in the anterior segment has not changed. Analysis of TRG parameters showed a significant increase in the values of <ANB - by 1.55±0.52° (<i>p</i><0.05); Wits - number by 2.85±0.45 mm (<i>p</i><0.05); total anterior morphological height of the facial skeleton by 4.25±1.53 mm (<i>p</i><0.05). In the anamnesis and catamnesis, there were no indications of trauma or other pathology of the head and neck, including vascular. STA was contrasted with a non-radiocontrast dye (brilliant green) with the introduction of the dye into the STA with preliminary ligation of the frontal branch of the STA. The area of blood supply to soft tissue and bone structures was studied. The patients were divided into two groups. In group 1, Ketorol Express was prescribed as a preventive analgesia in a dosage of 20 mg before local anesthesia. Patients of group 2 underwent dental interventions without the use of preventive analgesia. A 3% solution of mepivacaine was used as a local analgesic solution. For a subjective assessment of the effectiveness of anesthesia, use a visual analog scale. All patients had their blood pressure and heart rate measured before and after the interventions and hemodynamic parameters were continuously monitored during emergency dental care.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>In group 1, the effectiveness of combined anesthesia with the infiltration method of local anesthetic administration was 93±1.17%, according to the patient, 94±1.47%, according to the doctor, with the conductive method of anesthesia at the mandibular orifice - according to the patient it was 91±1.01%, according to the doctor 92± 1.36%. The patients were divided into 2 groups. The main group consisted of 112 patients who received magnetic therapy: 55 patients with congenital micrognathia and 57 patients with acquired micrognathia. The control group included 47 patients who did not undergo magnetic therapy: 20 patients with congenital micrognathia and 27 patients with acquired micrognathia. Magnetic therapy was performed daily starting from day 1 or 2 after surgery. Ultrasound monitoring began on the 7th day of distraction and was carried out every 3-4 days, which made it possible to assess the dynamics of the formation of the distraction regenerate.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Ultrasound examination on the 7th day of distraction revealed that in the main group the number of distraction regenerates of the normotrophic type was 36.5%, hypotrophic type 18%, hypertrophic type 54.5%. In the control group, the corresponding rates were 53%, 31% and 22%.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Magnetic therapy induces osteogenesis and accelerates the maturation of the distraction regenerate. In all 14 patients, measurements of mandibular density values on CT scans were performed over time.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Using multiple linear regression analysis, a model was developed to predict the effect of the number of zolendronic acid injections «X<sub>1</sub>» on the dynamics of mandibular density «Y». The analysis of the relationship of the type of acute dental injury (ADI) with the gender, age of patients, history, and the timing of medical care access was carried out. A dental examination was also performed on 52 healthy pupils of the Center for the Promotion of Family Education in Moscow (study group) with ADI. The control group consisted of healthy children living in families (<i>n</i>=52). The dental aesthetic index DAI was determined in patients of both groups.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Based on a retrospective analysis of the medical histories of children in educational institutions, 38.2% had a tooth luxation, 61.8% had a tooth fracture. The timing for medical care provision was characterized by a large range of values, an asymmetry of distribution (Me=4.5 days). The prevalence of ADI was higher in children from orphanages compared with children of the control group. In the case of a history of tooth injury, the DAI index was on average 5.2 points higher (<i>p</i>=0.016).</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Dental examination of children in orphanages revealed a higher prevalence of OTD compared to children living in families. The DAI b index in patients of both groups is on average 5.2 points higher (<i>p</i>=0.016) in the case of a history of ADI.
