This anatomically accurate arterial model is constructed using individual information obtained by medical imaging. With its soft membranous structure having some physical simulation accompanied with deformation of arterial structure is realized. In this report, we also present a production methodology for this membranous arterial model. With this methodology, arteries with very complicated or high aspect structures are precisely reproducible. As a further development, we also present a solid elastic arterial model having partial membranous structure and surrounding vacant space, which replicates subarchnoid space. As the presented arterial model is compatible with current major imaging modalities such as CT, MRA and TCD, it should prove useful for a wide range of applications, such as hemodynamic study and radiological investigations, as well as surgical simulations.","PeriodicalId":358698,"journal":{"name":"MHS2003. This technique consists of laser patterning of Au nano-particles dispersed polymer and micro-powder blasting. The patterned polymer was utilized as a mask material for the subsequent mechanical removal of the glass by the micro-powder blasting. Five different polymers were tested for the matrix material. Using a line and hole mask pattern, the fabricated channels in the glass with maximum aspect ration of 2.1 was realized and the prototype chip was produced. From this result, the validity of the micro-powder blasting using Au nano-particle dispersed polymer mask was confirmed. Moreover, we proposed the micro-powder blasting technique with elevated polymer mask temperature. Utilizing this method, improvement of the polymer mask erosion resistance was achieved.","PeriodicalId":358698,"journal":{"name":"MHS2003. The images are grabbed by the multiple camera system. The corresponding pairs among the images are determined from the relation of the camera positions. The exact depth measurement of each pixel of an object has been determined from the multiple image pair. The synthesized images observed from new viewing points are generated by the disparities between two different viewing point images. A panoramic image of a scene is reconstructed by the images of a real scene have been done to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":358698,"journal":{"name":"MHS2003. This device has a piezoelectric actuator, electromagnet CA that applies a constant friction force and electromagnet CB controlled. The friction at electromagnets CB is alternated by on-off control. The whole device wriggles with electromagnets CA while the piezoelectric actuator extends and contracts. The 1-DOF device can move up to micrometer steps. The movable range is infinite in principle. Seal mechanism has the same structure as the inchworm mechanism. However, seal mechanism has a smaller number of controlled actuators and is driven by a smaller number of steps than the inchworm mechanism. In this paper, as the preliminary experiment for the cooperation of several seal mechanisms, the moving performance on the slope from 0 to 90 degrees was investigated. Moreover, the relationship between the friction force and the displacement on a vertical plane was investigated experimentally. Under a set of sufficient friction forces, this device was possible to move even on the vertical plane. The load capacity of this device was also investigated. From the results, friction force in this device restricted the load capacity. Finally, its load capacity was compared with an inchworm device. The lower friction force to hold each device restricted its displacement.","PeriodicalId":358698,"journal":{"name":"MHS2003. Developed interface devices are an active tetrahedron and an active icosahedron realizing PMI. Nine-DOF micro spherical joints and pressure control pneumatic cylinders were developed to realize the active tetrahedron, while fifteen-DOF micro spherical joints are developed for active icosahedron. The tetrahedron successfully realizes \"virtual touch\"; the operators feel actions, forces, and shapes of the virtual objects in PC and also move and deform them. Real time PMI is realized by using MSC.VisualNastran 4D. MSC.VisualNastran 4D is a mechanism analysis software, which can make motion analysis in real time. The active icosahedron realized to present shape of virtual object in PC simulated by MSC.VisualNastran 4D, showing the potential of the devices as haptic interface.","PeriodicalId":358698,"journal":{"name":"MHS2003. We propose a new concept for a tactile interface based on a multi layer approach. This concept allows developing a new generation of tactile matrices with a high density of micro actuators and a quite simple assembling process. The concept proposed is based on electromagnetic micro actuators where coils excite a flexible magnetic membrane. Two technologies to manufacture the micro coils are presented. In the first technology the micro coils were machined by wire electro discharge machining is presented and tested. The second technology based on a PCB layer is presented. Such a device has potential applications in virtual reality, automotive industry, and interactive systems for blind persons.","PeriodicalId":358698,"journal":{"name":"MHS2003. The system generates a sequence of motion from given several postures, and the motion is smooth and stable in the balance. We have produced all the motions of Tai Chi Chuan by the system. Motion generation for humanoids has been studied mainly based on the dynamics. Dynamic based method has, however, some defects: e.g., numerous parameters which can not be always prepared, expensive computational cost and no guarantee that the motions are stable in balance. We have, thus studied less dependent-on-dynamics approach. A motion is described as a sequence of postures. Our system figure out if we need extra postures to insert stability. This method enables humanoid robot, HOAP-1 to do Tai Chi Chuan.","PeriodicalId":358698,"journal":{"name":"MHS2003. The emphasis is on materials inspired from silicon IC technology enhanced by micromachining. Three studies of the fracture of micromaterials and microstructure are reported dealing respectively with the shock resistance of epipoly, the failure of PEVCD silicon nitride membranes under particle impact, and the fracture of LPCVD silicon nitride membranes under differential pressure. Extensions of the application range of MEMS are illustrated using polysilicon thin films operated at temperatures up to 1200 K, microstructures for differential thermal analysis, and the use of sharp silicon microstructures for embossing and scratching materials with Vickers hardness from 4 HV to 73 HV. Finally, an analysis of higher-order offset components in integrated Hall sensors is presented.","PeriodicalId":358698,"journal":{"name":"MHS2003.
