The proposed controller is based a description of the average model of the system. This control scheme is designed in two loops, namely the inner control loop or current loop and the outer loop or voltage loop. The first loop is aimed at compensating reactive power and current harmonic distortion in a single phase system, i.e. at guaranteeing a power factor close to unity. An adaptation scheme is introduced to cope with harmonic uncertainties in the system signals and system parameters. Additionally, an estimate of the series resistance is proposed to cope with the series resistor of the filter. The adaptation schemes proposed in the control law are reduced to a bank of resonant filters. These filters are tuned at the frequencies of the harmonics under compensation, which provides precise selective harmonic compensation. The second loop is designed to regulate the voltage load and it consists of a well known Integral plus Proportional controller (PI). Given that the output of the PI controller is a modulating signal which is used to construct the current reference, it has to include a Low Pass Filter (LPF) to restrict the bandwidth of the controller and avoid the harmonic pollution in a current reference which is produced by the rectification process. The topology selected for the PFC consists of a single phase full-bridge Voltage Source Inverter (VSI). The proposed control scheme and the power converter has been simulated and the results are presented here.","PeriodicalId":357133,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128657536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

GP is generally enhanced with a novel crossover, mutation, or selection mechanism, in order to compare the performance of this improvement with the performance of a standard GP. Although these comparisons show the capabilities of GP, it also makes harder, for a new comer, to figure out whether a traditional GP would have a competitive classification performance, when compared to state-of-the-art techniques. In this work, we try to fill this gap by comparing a standard GP, a GP with minor modifications and a ensemble of GP with two competitive techniques, namely support vector machines and a procedure that performs full model selection (Particle Swarm Model Selection). The results show that GP has better performance on problems with high dimensionality and large training sets and it is competitive on the rest of the problems tested. The former result is interesting because while Particle Swarm Model Selection is tailored to perform a data preprocessing and feature selection, GP is automatically performing these tasks and producing better classifiers.","PeriodicalId":357133,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128058603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The DC option is also perceived as solution to the steady increase in power demand and the collection of disperse conventional and variable generations. These can be achieved while maintaining the control and operation of the grid into the smart grid playground without affecting the environment. Therefore, this paper presents the characteristics of the MMC along with the modulation techniques as well as control methods for MMC-based high multilevel structures. Also the MMC-HVDC advantages for integrating RES are reviewed. At final section the technical and environmental benefits of using MMC for DC grids are discussed.","PeriodicalId":357133,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131286406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mathematical formulation is based on the set of differential-algebraic equations regarding the power system and a set of equations related to the conditions that must be satisfied for occurrence of Hopf bifurcations. Both sets of nonlinear algebraic equations are solved in a unified framework based on the Newton method. A homotopy method with artificial parameter is used to compute proper initial conditions of the set of variables to be solved and to overcome most difficulties of the traditional Newton based techniques towards convergence when the initial solution is far away from the bifurcation point. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed methodology is presented through numerical examples using the IEEE 3-generators 9-bus test system.","PeriodicalId":357133,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133736541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most recent approaches includes the genetic programming framework for symbolic regression called Error Space Alignment GP, the geometric semantic operators, and our previous work the semantic crossover based on the partial derivative error. To the best of our knowledge, there has not been a semantic genetic operator similar to the point mutation. In this contribution, we start filling this gap by proposing a semantic point mutation based on the derivative of the error. This novel operator complements our previous semantic crossover and, as the results show, there is an improvement in performance when this novel operator is used, and, furthermore, the best performance in our setting is the system that uses the semantic crossover and the semantic point mutation.","PeriodicalId":357133,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114624119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes a experimental implementation of virtual speed sensor for DC motor using back-propagation artificial neural networks through voltage and current acquisition. In implementation process a comparative between both logsig and tansig activation function in hidden layer is made. The training of the neural network is performed by acquiring signals of voltage, current and speed sensor, later the response efficiency of the network is analyzed by comparing the result produced by physical sensor and virtual sensor implemented using neural networks. In this experiment training pattern values has a large range, a several process training with both small and large section range is made. Results show a good performance and a minimum error with both logsig and tansig activation function in hidden layer when pattern signal is full training.","PeriodicalId":357133,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114996534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An inverse optimal control problem avoids the explicit solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation that appears in the formulation of an optimal control problem. Some analytical and numerical developments are performed here in order to propose how to deliver optimally a desired level of power to a load. Simulation results show promising predictions of improvement in regulation capabilities of the power converter circuit in spite of environmental perturbations. Ongoing tasks include experimental verification of theoretical predictions and optimality tests.","PeriodicalId":357133,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126188644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the study is to analyze the ability of each operator to generate feasible solutions and also suggest suitable variation operator parameter values for such purpose. A performance measure is proposed to evaluate the capacity of each operator to find feasible offspring. A set of fourteen benchmark problems is used in the experiments. The results show that in both crossover operators the exploration ability must be enhanced so as to get better results.","PeriodicalId":357133,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127436414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
