The study and professional internships require not only the acquisition of general communication in a foreign language but also the attainment of professional terminology in a particular specialization. The principal objective of the paper is the analysis of the language competences of the students at Engineering Degree of the Faculty of Engineering at the Slovak University of Agriculture (SUA) in Nitra in the subject of Business Communication. Via the analytic tools of the didactic written tests, the achieved level was evaluated in vocabulary, word formation, grammar, and reading comprehension in the English language. The collected data were evaluated by the selected methods for the quantitative research in pedagogy. The results indicated that the above-average score was achieved in the tasks of vocabulary and word formation (93%, 92%). The students reached the average score (72%, 81%) in the tasks of grammar and reading. The correlation relations between the individual types of tasks proved only a slight dependence. The development of language competences, including the reading of professional literature in English, constitutes the professional knowledge of the modern university graduate and it extends the opportunities for career growth.","PeriodicalId":356304,"journal":{"name":"Mathematics in Education, Research and Applications","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124990027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper's main objective is to investigate possible causal links between economic growth and competitiveness with an exclusive focus on factors which disadvantage national competitiveness. As a primary source of data, results compiled within the Global competitiveness report (GCR 2017-2018) and provided by the World economic forum (WEF) have been used. The national competitiveness of each member state was expressed by its unique Global competitiveness index (GCI) elaborated according to the GCR methodology. Part of the report was an exclusive business opinion survey about general business and entrepreneurial conditions in each state. Firstly, the probability distribution of each random variable was established. As most problematic factors were highlighted taxes and tax regulations, inefficient state bureaucracy and restrictive labor conditions. Subsequently, the relations between the national competitiveness (GCI), factor score, and economic growth were analyzed. The results point to a relatively weak link between the GCI vs factor score and GCI vs economic growth, which was statistically insignificant. However, there was a moderately strong negative correlation between the factor score and economic growth, suggesting a higher factor score means lower economic growth and vice versa. There is a number of EU member states, including 'old' member states afflicted by slow economic growth. Also, these states have a higher factor score. Conversely, there are states, mostly 'new' ones, which are less developed, however, were able to achieve higher economic growth rates. In turn, their factor score is lower. Based on the results, the possible causal relationship between the economic growth and factors suppressing the business cannot be ruled out. The position of each EU member state is mainly a consequence of its own social-economic policy framework design and implementation.","PeriodicalId":356304,"journal":{"name":"Mathematics in Education, Research and Applications","volume":"368 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132900883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is monitored in all countries of the world, especially in periods when it increases significantly in a short period of time. It is one of the highly debated problems of society. Countries around the world attempt to solve at least part of the problem through economic policy. The aim of this paper is to highlight the problem of unemployment in the Slovak Republic in all districts of the Slovak Republic. The research sample consisted of the unemployed in the individual districts of the Slovak Republic between 2019 and 2021. When we compared the years 2020 and 2021 with 2021, we found a significant difference in the number of unemployed, but when we compared the years 2020 and 2021, there was no significant difference.","PeriodicalId":356304,"journal":{"name":"Mathematics in Education, Research and Applications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114514302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They come from different types of secondary school, and it is not a general requirement to have an advanced level secondary school certificate in mathematics. However, adequate basic knowledge is essential for mastering the university mathematics material, so it is important to identify the shortcomings in time and, if necessary, to make interventions. This is the reason for measuring the mathematical competence of incoming students. In our article, we analyze the results of the mathematical competence measurement made in the 1st semester of the academic year of 2022/2023, among the 1 st year BSc students of the University of Miskolc in the fields of IT, engineering and economics, highlighting the problematic areas and the parts of the academic material acquired at the appropriate level. 513 students completed the test, their average performance was 65% and only 5 students achieved the maximum point.","PeriodicalId":356304,"journal":{"name":"Mathematics in Education, Research and Applications","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133157744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Disposal, separation and processing of waste, or landfilling of produced waste is connected to processes that require additional financial resources. The main goal of the contribution was to analyze the differences in the amount of total produced waste, municipal solid waste, and separated waste in selected Slovak municipalities. The data were obtained by the questionnaire method from 33 municipalities in the Nitra region, which provided data on the amount and type of waste in the period 2015 - 2017. Selected statistical methods, paired t-test, analysis of variance and Bonferroni test were used to analyze the obtained data. The results of the analysis show that there are significant differences in the volume of waste generated by municipalities together between individual years. Similarly, statistically significant differences were demonstrated between the amount of produced waste in relation to the size of the municipality according to the number of inhabitants. In the evaluated period, medium-sized municipalities showed the lowest amount of produced waste per inhabitant.","PeriodicalId":356304,"journal":{"name":"Mathematics in Education, Research and Applications","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124248698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our article we analyze trends in the number of foreign students studying at Slovak universities and Slovak students leaving mainly for the Czech Republic in 10 years from 2010 to 2019. In Slovakia, but also in the Czech Republic, we observe a decrease in the total number of students studying at universities. We are also following this trend among Slovaks studying in the Czech Republic. In contrast, in Slovakia we are seeing an increase in the number of foreign students studying at our colleges and universities. Czechs and Ukrainians study the most in our country, and the ratio between them has been changing since 2017 in favor of Ukrainian students. The share of Slovak students among all foreign students at Czech colleges and universities was almost 64% in 2010, in 2019 it is only less than 45%.","PeriodicalId":356304,"journal":{"name":"Mathematics in Education, Research and Applications","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124124035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The implementation of educational activities by the distance method replaces the direct contact of the teacher with the students and places increased emphasis on the quality and comprehensibility of study materials and their availability for students. The aim of the paper is to present a modern form of an accounting teaching through a case study of distance teaching in the course Single-entry bookkeeping system at the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. Seminars from the course Single-entry bookkeeping system are realized in an accounting software, so it was necessary to find the optimal solution to ensure the distance teaching. We chose to make video tutorials using software which allows to record activities on the desktop together with the teacher as a narrator. Video tutorials allow students working in a demo version of the taught accounting software to gain professional knowledge and skills with working in the accounting software and as well as within the distance learning. The paper also evaluates the examination results from the course Simple-entry bookkeeping system for the last four academic years. The evaluation showed, that in the academic year 2020/2021 when the distance teaching started, the highest success rate on the first term and at the same time the worst average grade was achieved by students.","PeriodicalId":356304,"journal":{"name":"Mathematics in Education, Research and Applications","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131553517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
