In site diversity a multitude of base stations simultaneously connect a mobile user to the fixed network. Base stations act as junctions between the wired and the wireless part of the mobile's connection path. They are interconnected through a wired, cell switched network. This network is decomposed into regions of access networks. A backbone network assumed to interconnect these regions. It is necessary to adapt the topology of the access network to the characteristics of the VCN traffic, which differs significantly from traditional traffic patterns. The paper specifies the wired network in terms of layout, scale and link topology via analysis based on effective bandwidth requirement. A simulation model is used to obtain qualitative insight into the operation of the designed network.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. Admission control based on load or power thresholds does not adapt to the environment and may lead to low resource utilisation or bad quality. By using RL near-optimal performance for various environments and thus a guarantee of high utilisation and good quality can be achieved. An algorithm, based on Sarsa learning with linear function approximation, as well as performance evaluation results are presented.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. Although several communication protocols have been proposed, the problems of interference have largely been ignored. In particular, the problem of interference from vehicles in oncoming lanes has not been investigated before. We examine the problem of interference from vehicles in oncoming lanes and show that the worst case presents a level of interference which must be avoided. The results in this paper are confirmed by both theoretic modeling and computer simulation using a Rician fading model in the millimeter wave band. The use of directional or beam antennas, coupled with separating the frequency band into forward transmit/reverse receive, and reverse transmit/forward receive is suggested as the solution to the problems of interference from oncoming vehicles.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. The algorithm can support various multi-class services and guarantee QoS (quality of service) of each call, especially a handover call. The main focus of our scheme is to take account of the individual traffic source model of each service class. By using these traffic source models, we compute the cell loss probability for a system state in order to make a call admission decision, which guarantees not only the requirements of the cell loss rate and delay time but also the minimum blocking rate of new calls. Moreover, since some of the channels reserved by this CAC are used only for handover calls, the mobility of end users can be supported while the handover dropping rate is minimized.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. The performance of this non-linear receiver, together with the MMSE linear receiver, is demonstrated to be sensitive to the estimation of the channel impulse response. Results are presented for estimation of this quantity both via a direct technique and also via adaptive techniques based on training using a pilot sequence, for both a stationary channel and a time-varying channel.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. In hybrid type-II ARQ schemes, the transmission of redundancy bits for error correction is adapted to the channel variations. Additionally, in the proposed AMS, the modulation is gradually changed from a large constellation to small constellations when the channel bit error probability is high. This is done without any knowledge of the channels at the transmitter. The proposed scheme provides a significant gain in the throughput performance as compared to traditional hybrid type-II ARQ schemes, as verified by simulations.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. A single cell scenario is adopted where there is perfect channel side information. The forward link of the BPSK/CDMA is considered where the fading amplitudes of all the received signals are equal. The turbo decoder is modified to take into account the exact expression for the multiuser interference term. It is shown that the inputs of the turbo decoder which are affected by multiuser interference are statistically independent, and thus the log-likelihood ratio at the output of the decoder can be separated into three terms as in the case of AWGN channels. The performance of the modified turbo encoding/decoding scheme is investigated by simulations in the low signal-to-noise ratio region for different values of processing gain and different number of users.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. A major disadvantage of multi-carrier transmission (MCT) is increase of peak power. In this paper, we propose a peak power suppression scheme for a MCT system based on generating peak power suppressing signals at extra carrier (parity carrier). This scheme has the advantage that it can be applied to any MCT system and the suppressing signal can be easily spilt at the demodulator. In the case of 8 subcarriers, peak power can be reduced by about 5 dB by the proposed scheme. When nonlinearity of the power amplifier is small, out-of-band radiation is decreased to -50 dB below the in-band spectrum with this scheme.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. The algorithm incorporates a restriction to valid Huffman codewords into the convolutional code's trellis. Performance is improved by this restriction. Furthermore, soft Huffman decoding is implicitly included, and a priori probabilities of input symbols can be easily exploited, if available. The joint decoding algorithm demonstrates significantly improved robustness relative to a system in which source and channel decoding are performed separately.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. Its application field includes partial response continuous phase modulation (PR-CPM) schemes such as Gaussian frequency shift keying (GFSK) or its 0.5 modulation index version known as Gaussian minimum shift keying (GMSK). This modulation has gained interest in recent years because of its attractive spectral properties. GSM and DECT employ it. In this paper, a novel and effective post-processing method based on the particular distribution of the noise at the output of the FD and the behaviour of the instantaneous amplitude of the signal and its application to GMSK is presented.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village.
