Museums are closely linked to cultural and heritage tourism, considered a significant attraction. The tourism sector is among the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and cultural tourism is not an exception. In 2020 around 95% museums around the world were closed – according to government sanitary regulations. The aim of the research was to identify the impact of COVID-19 disease on cultural tourism (measured by a number of visitors in the most popular museums in 2019 and 2020) and museums’ adaptation to the sanitary restrictions during the pandemic time. For a few decades museums have tried to enhance their digital activities such as online educational programmes, online collection display, online exhibitions, live events, learning programs, brochures, podcasts, social media and virtual tours. These activities and various projects became especially important during the lockdown caused by the pandemic outbreak, as many museums continued their missions during the pandemic. Some museums have reopened (with strict limitations defined by sanitary restrictions), but many institutions remain closed. It shows how crucial IT innovations are. The paper concludes with some reflections on museums’ offer during the pandemic time and cultural tourism prospects in the post-pandemic time.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. The aim of the article is to justify the thesis that ‘krajoznawstwo’ – as a kind of applied environmentalism – brings a new, cognitive and axiological critical perspective to the conceptualisation of sightseeing tourism. The first part of the article – „Sightseeing in the unsustainable world of tourism” – focuses on the terminological distinction between the terms ‘krajoznawstwo’ and ‘tourism’ as well as the social functions of ‘krajoznawstwo’ and addresses the uncontrolled, yet criticism-inducing, growth of tourism. The second part of the article – „Towards sustainable sightseeing tourism” – will be a discussion of the reorientation of ‘krajoznawstwo’ towards sustainability, which is supposed to open new perspectives for sightseeing tourism in the struggle to achieve sustainable development goals. ‘Krajoznawstwo’ has an important role to play in the ongoing debate on climate change and, more broadly, on the ecological crisis associated with the destruction of natural and cultural heritage in the age of the Anthropocene.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. Fighting Arts are interesting from the perspective of their institutionalisation, organisational development, globalisation and glocalization, and also as vehicles of cultural dialogue. Problem. The authors tackled the problem of describing and explaining how martial arts organisation functions in the aspect of its participation in cultural dialogue. An example is EMAC, the European Martial Arts Committee. Method. The qualitative method of single case study research, both descriptive, as well as interpretive and evaluative was used. The second qualitative method used is visual anthropology. Results. Cultural dialogue and diffusion of symbolic content are illustrated by the fact of awarding the highest honour decorations to people from various countries, but mainly Western countries – for merits for Asian martial arts. In the case of EMAC and IPA (Idokan Poland Association) symbolic content on the decorations is either universal (phoenix, idea of nobility) or Christian/Polish (Saint George, a hussar). Therefore, rewarded people are ambassadors not only for martial arts themselves, but institutions awarding decorations appear as vehicles of cultural dialogue. Conclusions. Through the presence of appropriate iconography and symbolism on the awarded honorary medals, symbolic content diffuses, which concerns its dissemination, internalisation and inculturation. Regardless of the belief of the people participating in the activities of the organisation, on the one hand, the knightly ethos of Europe is accepted, and the traditions of Asian martial arts on the other.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. Basically, no one doubts that this concerns a popular Japanese sports discipline, which is managed by one international federation, and the whole world competes in championship tournaments and the Olympic Games. However, is there really only one type of judo? And is it only understood as this sports discipline? The author cites facts showing the process of the parallel institutionalisation of other judo variants, appearing under different names. Firstly, there is the \"European\" judo-do, secondly Kodokan judo or Butokukai judo, complemented by techniques of jujutsu self-defence (Japanese jūjutsu) and finally today’s Idokan judo. The Idokan organisation has also been teaching judo in the broad sense for over 70 years as various methods of martial art guided by the principle of flexibility.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. Bérard, Manon Cavalier, Nathalie Godart","doi":"10.16926/sit.2022.03.06","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.16926/sit.2022.03.06","url":null,"abstract":"A stroke is neurological damage that results in the need for medical and physical therapy management. From this perspective, virtual reality (VR) is a promising rehabilitation technology that reproduces real-life scenarios through computer-generated environments. VR can be a complementary strategy to conventional rehabilitation approaches by potentially improving hand motor function and activities of daily living (ADLs). This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of VR-based therapy in improving hand function for people suffering from chronic stroke. For this systematic review, we searched PubMed, Cochrane, Physiotherapy Evidence Database(PEDro) and registers on International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP) and ClinicalTrials.gov including all eligible articles. In the end, 8 articles were included. Three reviewers independently searched for randomized controlled trials (RCT) of VR intervention in patients with chronic stroke, including only studies where hand function rehabilitation was specifically targeted. In conclusion, VR used in rehabilitation for patients with chronic stroke improves several outcomes of hand function and may be considered as an addition to rehabilitation in routine use. Seven out of eight included studies had a high-quality score on PEDro scale. Future studies should focus on how the advantages of VR therapy for hand function can be sustained over a longer period.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. The aim of this study was to analyse the opinions of student-athletes about the IPPS at the APE in Katowice. The applied research methods included a diagnostic survey with the use of the questionnaire technique and the statistical analysis of the results. The author's own questionnaire consisting of 23 closed questions was used. The questionnaire was completed by 108 student-athletes participating in the IPPS.Summary and Conclusions. The results suggest that the most important reason for studying at the university for student athletes, was their desire to obtain education. The student-athletes consider the IPPS helpful and the program had an influence on their decision to study at the university. The elements of the IPPS considered the most helpful by the student-athletes were: individual arrangements regarding class attendance, flexible class and exam timetables, as well as the possibility of extending their study period. In the opinion of the student-athletes, the elements of the program that need to be improved upon were: scientific advice and assistance in reconciling studying and sports career, as well as the availability of academic teachers and their attitude towards student-athletes.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. Our study was aimed at analysing and comparing physical activity of secondary school students in terms of selected regions of Slovakia. A cross-sectional survey measuring (January – December, 2021) physical activity was conducted through intentional sampling with the survey size of 1829 secondary school students (aged 17.35 ± .82) who attended the last year (4th) of grammar and vocational secondary schools. Each answer of the survey group was analysed, compared and evaluated by using the chi-square test (χ2) with the significance level (α) of .01 and .05. After analysing the survey answers, on average, 54.24 % (n = 902) of the survey group indicated the recreational form of physical activity (p < .01). In terms of the main place of performing physical activity, the survey answer of “Indoor (Gym, hall...)” covered 43.95 % (n = 804) of the survey group (p < .01). Physical activity of secondary school students varies depending on the region, while it is necessary to apply effective out-of-school physical activity programmes to increase the volume of physical activity of secondary school students.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. The competitions, in which young people participated, provided an ideal environment for exerting ideological and educational influence on them. This influence should be understood as actions taken by the state authorities aimed at shaping the awareness of the indicated social group and adopting by the members of this group the attitudes desired from the perspective of the party and state authorities of the People’s Republic of Poland. The communist authorities engaged co-operating socialist youth organisations to fulfil that task. The aim of this paper is to discuss the activities of youth organisations in terms of their ideological and educational impact during a major sporting event such as the 4th National Youth Spartakiad in 1975, using the example of the activities of youth organizations in the Białostockie, Łomżyńskie and Suwalskie Voivodships. The sources were archival materials found in the resources of the Archive of New Files in Warsaw and the State Archive in Białystok, as well as press materials published in the local newspaper “Gazeta Współczesna”. The article discusses the participation of youth organisations in the promotion of physical culture in the Polish People’s Republic, their propaganda activities and the methods of ideological and educational agitation adopted by these organisations during the 4th National Youth Spartakiad. The area of interest also included the use of the ideals of the Olympic movement to shape the attitudes of young people desired by the communist authorities.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka.
