At that time, it was (and still is) the only indoor swimming pool in the Mazovian Region, where diving is possible. It is also one of very few swimming pools in Poland where this sport discipline can be practised in the full range of competitions throughout the whole year. The lack of suitable facilities for diving is the result of many reasons: lack of funds for sports investments, high costs of implementation and maintenance, numerous very detailed safety requirements of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) for this discipline, which a swimming pool must meet. The Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw and its surroundings (the Parade Square) was enlisted in the register of historic architectural monuments and all modernization works had to take into account the very restrictive and detailed recommendations of the conservation programme that imposed keeping historical qualities of the pool’s architectural style. The aim of the article is to explore and present the relationships between history, tradition and modern requirements for swimming pools, and to answer the question if this object can meet the requirements of the FINA for training and sports events organisation.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. There were described conditions of the skiing in Lvov especially terrain and climate conditions and the development of the skiing organisation’s activity between 1919–1939. The terrain in Lvov and nearest neighbourhood was advantageous but climate often made skiing difficult. The skiing developed dynamically and it was popular in different social environments including also national minority groups. The Jewish skiing organisation cooperated with Polish under the Polish Ski Federation but Ukrainians were outside of the federation. The article includes also quantitative indicators of the development skiing in Lvov in the context of the Polish Ski Federation total data. Lvov’s skiers were in great number between members of the Polish Ski Federation and their quantity tended to rising between 1932–1939. In the late 1930s the amount of ski competitors decreased in comparison to all members of the Lvov’s skiing societies. This trend indicated faster increase the amount of recreational and tourist skiers than competitors.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. A drawback of this approach is the lack of one common concept of tourist division, which would allow for comparing research results at various academic and marketing centers. There is a definition problem of tourism and the tourist themselves, the concepts often differing from each other, thus, there is no common ground on which the theories of the separation and division of tourists can be built. In the presented publication, a review of selected, varying tourist types have been conducted. Typologies of tourists are based on various criteria, ranging from sociological and psychological to demographic, geographic, economic, marketing and others often having an interdisciplinary basis. First of all, attempts were made to show the diversity of typological concepts presented in the world. They are used in scientific research but only refer to a small group of respondents and it is difficult to compare the results with other results based on other divisions. In conclusion, a new, proprietary division has been proposed, which, it seems, could be used by various academic centers, allowing greater possibilities for the comparison of research results in the area of tourism. It is based on the awareness and subjective understanding of the phenomenon of tourism which is interpreted differently in many areas and environments.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. The relevance of the research is experimental approbation and further practical implementation of the aforementioned PE program featuring sports recreational tourism, into the Physical Education process for higher education. The research focuses on different aspects concerning PE, sports and students health. The results of the research have shown a significant optimization of cardiovascular system fitness level of students who attended Physical Education classes with the use of sports recreational tourism and were exposed to different types of training (from technical and tactical to special physical training). The researchers evaluated the dynamics of the integral indices of the cardiovascular system among the female students of the higher educational institutions during the course of Physical Education activities taking advantage of sports recreational tourism. It was concluded that the coherence level of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems has increased. Aerobic and mixed performance increase and cardiac activity normalization that can be seen when changing to a normotonic regulation of cardiac performance were observed.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. In the 1930s female student teams competed in Polish championships in Czech handball, basketball and volleyball. After the Second World War, team games continued to be popularized in the academic community. Women participated in university, inter-university and international competitions in basketball, handball and volleyball. A competition had the greatest popularity in of the Academic Polish Championship and the Polish Championship of Higher Education Institutions. In addition, sports teams representing AZS participated in professional sports in basketball, football, field hockey, handball and volleyball. In the professional sport most successes had teams AZS Warsaw, AZS Wrocław, AZS Katowice and AZS Poznań. The development of team sports games in the academic community was related to, among others with the decisions of institutions managing physical culture in Poland in 1945–1989. These guidelines had an impact on organizational changes in the structures of AZS and on shaping the academic model of sports competition.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. Emphasis is placed on examining the postwar development of the institutional framework and the impact of sociopolitical developments on the subject matter. The army’s support for the training of top-level athletes was a logical consequence of the conditions existing during that period and the adoption of the model practiced in the Soviet Union and in all countries of the Eastern Bloc. After the Communist Party took power in February 1948, the new government redefined the significance of physical education and sports. Sports at the top and lower levels were stripped of their apolitical nature and inherent purposes, as the prospects of achieving top-level performances presented a potential for using the achievements for propaganda purposes by the communist regime. Amid the militant atmosphere of the Cold War, the Ministry of National Defense had a unique status, which facilitated the functioning of a government-controlled system of top-level sports training. The ministry had strong financial resources, and its sports program encompassed both professional soldiers and conscripts fulfilling their two-year military duty. On the one hand, universal conscription facilitated the identification of high-potential individuals, and on the other hand, material support and technical resources offered conditions unrivalled elsewhere. Moreover, the military environment did not contravene amateur regulations in effect at that time, and a person’s military status did not contradict his or her civilian ideological principles. Following a period of searching for the optimal structural framework, an organizational structure was established that relied on Dukla Military Sports Clubs, which formed the base of world-class national teams for several subsequent generations.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. The service recipients were additionally divided into a group of people professionally practicing sports and those who have never practiced sports competitively. The surveyed group of respondents could mark the YES or NO answer, and express their level of satisfaction/evaluation with a specific point scale from 1 to 10 (1 – unsatisfied, 10 – very satisfied) in the questionnaire. \u0000The surveyed service recipients evaluated the implementation of the idea of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle higher than the average values, both in the group of amateurs as well as in people practicing sports competitively. The differences between them are not statistically significant. Negative values of skewness coefficient in both groups show a strong tendency to assign higher scores than the average.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka. Considered are potentials and the most important barriers, as well as the possibilities of lifting restrictions and objectives for the dissemination of sport and recreational equestrian. This is one of the thematic threads of research conducted by authors in the selected equestrian clubs in Warsaw and neighbouring communes (in 2008–2019). Theoretical and field (empirical) research on the present offer of equestrian clubs in urban (Warsaw) and suburban (neighbouring) communes was undertaken as part of the long-term and multi-staged statutory projects ds-144, ds-300, ds-316 financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and carried out at the Joseph Pilsudski Academy of Physical Education. Some of the outcomes focused on the sports and recreational horse riding were subjects of the doctoral dissertation, successfully presented by Dr Natalia Łukasik: “Social and cultural conditions for the development of equestrianism in Warsaw and neighbouring communes” (supervisor: Anna Pawlikowska-Piechotka). In the police work, the basis for the implementation of the entrusted tasks is an above-average level of motor skills. The physical fitness system in the Silesian and state police of the Second Polish Republic is completely omitted in the literature on the subject. Therefore, the goal of this article was to undertake further historical research in this area, taking into account the broad issue of the development of sport in The Police during this period. In the article, on the basis of a query of historical materials collected in the Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw, the Central Archives of Police in Warsaw, the State Archives in Katowice, the Silesian Government and the Provincial Office in Katowice, I described courses and trainings increasing the fitness and promotion of physical culture among officers. They form the entire system of improving the efficiency in the ranks of The Silesian Police. I detailed the actions that led to the uprising in Silesia and across the country dozens of Police Sports Clubs. The article is an attempt to present an important issue concerning the functioning of this formation in the field of pro-sport activities. It contains descriptions of courses, trainings, sport disciplines, instructors and trainers, types of competitions and sports results at the voivodeship level.","PeriodicalId":353190,"journal":{"name":"Sport i Turystyka.
