This paper aims to identify the key sources and drivers of agriculture growth in Uttar Pradesh, the largest food producing state of India. The study is conducted as a quantitative time-series analysis for the period 1990–1991 to 2014–2015 using simple least square method (p ≤ 05). Although, the volatility of agriculture represented in terms of coefficient of variation is low in Uttar Pradesh in comparison to the national average, yet the growth of gross domestic product from agriculture (GDPA) has been low. The agricultural economy of Uttar Pradesh continues to be dominated by cereals with around 60% of its gross cropped area under cereal crops. The results of regression analysis indicate that better rainfall, irrigation facilities, favourable terms of trade, road development and fertiliser use playe...","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"14 1","pages":"20-44"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46236729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines several agricultural buyer and supplier relationships by testing the effects of different types of agriculture buyers on farmer's perceived value, trust, performance, and commitment using neuroscience method. This provided objective information about farmers' sensory, cognitive and emotional reactions based on cortical brain activity (electroencephalogram) in different brain regions. The pattern of brain activity was obtained in the Alpha (8–12 Hz) and Beta (13–30 Hz) frequency bands of the frontal (AF3 and AF4), parietal (Pz), and temporal (T7 and T8) brain areas. There are differences in farmers' emotional responses towards each buyer type. Most farmers demonstrated the highest interest response in relation to perceived value, and demonstrated an engagement response indicating trust towards the farmers' group, while the highest excitement response arose in relation to tengkulak performance.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"14 1","pages":"45-61"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42499596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The researchers used multiple cases for investigating the business model for different commodities in the West Java area. For each case, the data were collected from farmers' focus groups, interviews with stakeholders in each commodity, and through obtaining secondary data. It was discovered that farmers are constrained by various problems concerning lack of tangible and intangible resources. As the main agribusiness actor, farmers also have low welfare. To improve farmer's welfare, a Purpose-Driven Inclusive Agribusiness Ecosystem (PDIAE) model is proposed in which participation of regulators, investors, infrastructure, knowledge empowerment, market and research information, and financial incentives are mandatory. These findings may enhance knowledge of how inclusive business models can increase the welfare of the bottom of the pyramid segment.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"14 1","pages":"1-19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48617459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Nigeria, farmers use pesticides without the knowledge on their health and environmental effects. Hence the residue effects of pesticide in stored agricultural products were studied at the teaching and research centre, Department of Soil Science and Environmental Management, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, southeastern Nigeria. The experiment was carried out in the laboratory storage room with Dichlorvos (DD-Force) organophosphate pesticide containing chloride and phosphate as active ingredients. Fumigated and unfumigated agricultural products were studied namely: cereal crops (rice and maize) and pulse crop (groundnut). The presence of active ingredient residue in the products was examined at 30 and 60 days after storage (DAS). All the stored agricultural produce passed the chloride and phosphate maximum residue limit. Further screening of other pesticides and produce recommended.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"14 1","pages":"91-103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43236942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a descriptive correlation study that uses the survey method. The Zahra Rosewater Company's staff, which consists of 80 persons, some of whom are located outside of Iran, is the statistical population of this study. Because of the small sample size, a census study was conducted. The main research tool is a questionnaire which its validity was determined based on comments of agricultural management scholars. Bayesian Cronbach's alpha was 0.705 to 0.911, which substantiates the reliability of the questionnaire. Data analysis was performed through structural equations modelling using Lisrel software, and the results indicate that personal, socio-cultural, economic, educational, promotional, and technological factors are effective factors in the application of green marketing.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"404-424"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41394788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two issues are raised: what are the producers' advantages to produce organic cotton? Does it offer greater opportunities to create local added value? We compare the evolution of the respective profitability of the two global value chains in Mali and Burkina Faso. We point out the vulnerabilities related to the mode of governance of the organic and fair-trade GVC due among other factors to the weakness of yields, the narrowness of the market, the dependency on bailouts and the support of the NGOs and eventually to missing perspectives of local transformation.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"325-350"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43779039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Organic rice production has been adopted, with non-government organisation support and certifications, to improve farmers' revenue for sustainable rural development. This study aims to define the constraints of organic rice adoption in an agro-ecosystem with high risk of flood. Using agrarian system diagnosis and analysis, it is found in the study that organic rice gives high value-added per hectare but low value-added per family labour because of the less non-flooded surface available to avoid chemical contamination, to enlarge organic rice surface. Moreover, organic farmers face lower social status because organic production practices are viewed as old-fashioned tools use by the poor farmers and that will not help them escape poverty. Another institutional constraint is that organic farmers face late payment from their cooperative until the rice is on-sold. This study finds that the price premium for organic rice is not high enough to induce adoption of this cropping practice. However, organic farmers are well trained, produce high-quality rice and are model farmers who participate in policy-making events, which encourage them to continue to produce organic rice.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"351-370"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47263781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of young consumers towards organic food. An online survey was conducted via the attached link to social media platforms during the period between March and May 2015. This study collected data from 253 respondents ranging in age from 17 to 23 years old. The results revealed that young consumers believe that organic food products are healthier, better tasting, higher in quality, and safer when compared to conventional food. Supermarkets (69.9%) were revealed as the preferable places for respondents to buy organic food. In addition, vegetables (23%) and rice (21%) were revealed as the most frequently purchased organic food products. The pesticide-free attribute was the most frequently stated reason for buying organic food. Further, the majority of respondents (78.8%) stated that they had never been exposed to the Indonesian organic logo. Finally, almost 52% of respondents replied that they were willing to buy organic food products in the near future. These findings may benefit both organic sellers and retailers as they may assist in developing further marketing strategies to gain potential consumers.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"315-324"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42272940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted to investigate current data on farm machinery repair costs with respect to characteristics of oil palm plantations in Malaysia. Relevant data were collected through face-to-face interviews and surveys that were carried out at several oil palm estates in Malaysia. Spreadsheet software was used to analyse the collected data. Findings of the study indicated relationships between farm machinery size and annual average repair costs in accordance with specific conditions and type of operations at the plantations. The relationships between farm machinery size and annual hours of farm machinery use, and farm machinery age are also discussed. This study also established a specific mathematical model for estimating Cumulative Repair and Maintenance (CRM) costs of farm machinery in Malaysian oil palm plantations.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"391-403"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJARGE.2017.088409","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42251259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study assessed the determinants, constraints and profitability/gross-margins of soya-bean production in Western Kenya. Multistage sampling technique and field surveys were used in data-collection process covering 370 households. Regression, gender, profitability and gross-margins were the analyses done. Results indicated gross-margins of soya-bean production within the study sites differed significantly from zero (KES 13,401-20,545); it was profitable because net profits ranged from KES 9243-13,548 for 2010. All gender-cadres shared in soya-bean production activities (5.0-18.0%). The mean technical-, allocative- and economic-efficiencies obtained were 0.78, 65 and 0.59 respectively. Smallholders/farmers' economic-inefficiencies arose from many negatively-signed and statistically significant factors/coefficients with p-values of 0.0000-0.0240. Increased use of these factors and county governments and other stakeholders' interventions would positively impact smallholders' efficiency resulting into higher output and profitability.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"211-240"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49480638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
