The case study concerns the transition of an intensive farming system, from subsidy oriented productivism, towards an integrated farming (IF) system focusing on the market, in the canned peach sector in Imathia, Northern Greece. The study revealed an anchored regime-triggered innovation, which resulted in the creation of a market niche within the incumbent regime. In this transition, all forms of anchoring are involved, and various forms of translation were encountered while a hybrid forum was identified, serving as the 'fertile ground' upon which all subsequent networking and translation activities took place. Research findings question a clear-cut analytical separation between the three levels of the multi-level perspective, as well as the relevance of a bottom-up procedure as a prerequisite for niche emergence vis-a-vis policy induced change.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"43-59"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJARGE.2017.084033","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44193851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oils extracted from agricultural crops are one among the solutions. In the current work, the potentiality of sesame oil (SESO) is tested to use it as an eco-friendly base stock for lubricants. SESO is one of the major agricultural crop oils produced all over the globe. In the current work, the physicochemical, rheological, thermal, oxidative, and tribological properties of SESO are studied and compared with coconut oil (CO), sunflower oil (SUO) and a commercially available mineral oil, SAE 20W40. The fatty acid profiles of vegetable oils are evaluated using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) technique. Tribological properties of the oils are assessed using a four-ball tester. Sesame oil is seen to possess excellent thermal and tribological properties. Its viscosity index is high whereas its viscosity range and oxidative stability need to be improved. SESO shows the better coefficient of friction (COF) and its wear scar diameter (WSD) is less compared to other vegetable oils. On further improvement, by adding suitable additives this crop oil base stock can be developed into a competing environmental friendly lubricant.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"77-90"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJARGE.2017.084037","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41474354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Focusing on risks associated with the soil, the influencing factors are analysed in detail. From this, a simple methodology for a probabilistic modelling approach to evaluate the effect of the different cropping tillage system and soil conservation practices is developed concerning environmental as well as economic aspects. Selected uncertainty factors, such as rainfall and crop yields are simulated using the program @RISK. With this method, the possible future performance of various combinations of crop and management practice under given environmental conditions can be simulated and compared, considering not only soil erosion control but also increasing farmers' income.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"1-20"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJARGE.2017.084031","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47864580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many factors which affect the land suitability for wheat cultivation like land use, land cover, soil texture, slope, soil pH, soil salinity, soil sodicity, soil depth, soil drainage, groundwater quality and soil nutrients [nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P), potassium (K)]. The land evaluation criteria were adopted from soil suitability manual of National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS % LUP), India and literature survey. All these factors have been assigned weightage obtained from Satty's method. The crop land evaluation results of the present study area were classified into four categories of wheat suitability (highly suitable, moderately suitable, marginally suitable, and unsuitable) as per Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). These categories were arrived at by integrating the various layers with corresponding weights in Geographical Information System (GIS) environment. This study proposes a methodology for evaluation and mapping of land suitability for wheat crop using the spatial MCDM techniques. The results indicate that distribution of wheat acreage under various suitability classes was highly suitable: 34.09%, moderately suitable: 47.37%, marginally suitable: 11.76% and unsuitable: 6.76%.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"91-108"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJARGE.2017.084038","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46228620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Integrated in the wider concept of social agriculture, these programmes are developing rapidly all over the world, as in Portugal. In this context the present study aimed to provide an insight on the benefits of organic horticulture professional training within young people with mental disorders. The Training Course in Organic Farming and Gardening (TCOFG) started in 1991, in the Professional Training Centre of the Association of Parents and Friends of Children with Disabilities, in Barcelos, Portugal. The target trainees were young people, over 16 years old, with intellectual disabilities, or with a disability characterized by significant limitations in intellectual functioning and in adaptive behaviour. During a period of three months three questionnaires were performed to the trainees attending the course and the trainees’ families were interviewed in order to assess their sons’ progress at home and the main effects of the TCOFG on them. The results indicate that horticulture, when used in a group-based setting, has a direct and positive effect on life satisfaction, wellbeing and self-confidence, which are all components of quality of life.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69576148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, identifications may not happen concurrently with species introductions. Some species prevented from arriving also remain undetected by authorities. This study accounts for these possibilities and provides an estimate of the historic success of quarantine laws at limiting introductions of invasive insect species. The processes of species introduction and identification are estimated jointly, using data on international trade, immigration, USDA outlays, and enactments of quarantine laws. Historic trends of species introductions and would-be introductions prevented thanks to quarantine laws are inferred. Various forms of trade flow, and quarantine laws are found to have a significant impact on invasive species' introductions.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"9 1","pages":"147-167"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67867531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
