The home demand for processed goods is incorporated into the model in accordance with the fact that the share of processed goods remaining in China tends to increase over time. China is the world's largest import-processing centre of ground fish. The fact that China produces almost no ground fish facilitates identifying the trade data. For exports with both foreign and domestic origins, the data issue is a big challenge for empirical studies. The simulated results indicate that a 7% appreciation of the Chinese currency would raise the export price of processed ground fish by 4.06%, corresponding to a share of 40% foreign content in the processed product. In addition, the increased share of home consumption would enlarge the responses of exports to changes in the exchange rate.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"256-271"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJARGE.2017.086999","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43310491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study identifies determinants of on-farm diversification using the Agricultural Household Model (AHM) as the theoretical framework. Survey data collected in Bangladesh over June-September 2014 were empirically examined. The Probit model was used to analyse the impact upon on-farm diversification of different household, farm and market characteristics. Data show that the age of the head of the household, farm size, access to credit, technical assistance, regional dummies and access to markets positively influenced the adoption of on-farm diversification. The active participation of women in farming activities was a noteworthy determinant that was found to increase diversification in Bangladesh. The key implication is that addressing these factors in the national agricultural policy of Bangladesh will encourage Bangladeshi farmers to diversify their farming activities. Recommendations for policy guidelines are proposed for consideration.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"294-313"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJARGE.2017.087001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46593669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper reports the findings of research investigating dynamics of changes in land use in the Fars province, Iran. The survey research was used to study land use changes in Shiraz and Sarvestan counties of this province to investigate causes and consequences. Data from 60 Dehyars (village heads) and 257 farmers (n = 317) in 60 villages were compiled and analysed using stratified random sampling. Results indicate that the area of agricultural lands in the villages studied increased significantly in the 30-year period under study. Analysis showed that population growth, distance to service centres, mean of temperature, controllability of production resources, social pressure and increased land price constitute the major determinants of land use change. It is suggested to establish a systematic and comprehensive planning process for land use management that can be promoted through the extension process.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"272-293"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48839027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intensive tobacco production in the Lerma Valley, province of Salta, Northern Argentina, was used as a case study. A conceptual framework of 'governance for sustainability' was used to guide the analysis and integrate quantitative and qualitative methodological tools. This conceptual framework includes two phases: (a) a descriptive stage, in which social and cultural aspects are described based on a historical and place-based analysis and the help of a quantitative indicator (virtual water); and (b) a more prescriptive phase where a normative evaluation of water governance is carried out in terms of some sustainability principles. Virtual water of tobacco production, expressed in population equivalents, was estimated to represent about half of the needs of the entire city of Salta (population 535,000). The paper also shows that local water governance ignores some of the social perspectives held by relevant stakeholders. We end by discussing a number of policy alternatives that could help improve the governance and sustainability of the system.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"241-255"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47746272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These innovations are complex; combining classic agronomic tools with innovative production techniques. Adoption of innovations is a source of additional uncertainty. A number of studies have shown that agronomic, economic and psychosocial determinants affect the adoption decision process. However, few of the determinants identified in the literature appear to be common and applicable to all production contexts. Furthermore, other non-directly observable determinants influence the innovation adoption decision. This paper reviews the recent literature to identify the role of observable and unobservable determinants, such as individual perceptions and preferences, in the agroecological innovation adoption process.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"138-161"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43207959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the studies have arrived at that climatic factors have a significant influence on cropped area, production and yield of crops in farming. In India, few studies have estimated the association of climatic and non-climatic factors with cropped area, production and yield during different stages of crop growth. Therefore, the present study assesses the influence of climatic factors on cropped area, production and yield of major cash crops in India. Moreover, it estimates the projected production, yield and cropped area of crops using marginal impact analysis technique. Cobb-Douglas production function model has been applied to state-wise panel data for the period 1971-2013. Empirical results of the study show that cropped area of groundnut and sesame crops have decreased by 13.87% and 23.50% respectively. Production of groundnut and cotton crops have also come down by 9.83% and 41.09% respectively; and yield of potato, groundnut, sesame and cotton crops have subsided by 3.71%, 10.31%, 4.51% and 7.20% respectively due to 1% increase in climatic variables. Consequently, climate change has resulted in reduction in farmer's income, job opportunities for rural labourers and raw materials for agro-based industries in India. It provides several policy suggestions to mitigate the adverse effect of climate change on crop farming.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"175-210"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45974440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It negatively impacts gender-cadres especially in Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands that occupy 89% (area), 36% (population), 70% (livestock), and 90% (wildlife). Smallholders with limited resources endowments have adopted climate-smart agriculture technologies, which are viewed as a panacea to CC&V in addressing interlinked food-security challenges. This paper reports baseline survey results on 149 randomly selected households in Kalii watershed. Primary and secondary data were collected in March 2015. Data-analyses encompassed regressions, descriptive statistics and gender-analysis. Local perceptions/results revealed precipitations downward-trend and an upward-trend of temperatures, and other elements, and outcomes of CC&V. Gender and innovations are statistically significant at (p<0.05). Decision-making on assets' and proceeds' control and use, was men's domain. Invariably, gender and climate-smart agriculture innovations are critical in food and nutrition security strategy under CC&V.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"109-137"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41454291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cooking is activity from collecting to preparing food. Cooking competencies reflect the ability of people to provide for their food-based needs. Harapan Rainforest is a restoration forest with limited food resources remaining in it. This study investigated the relationship between cooking behaviour and the associated socio-economic characteristics of three ethnic groups residing in remaining rainforest. The quantitative data were collected from 101 households by using semi-structured questionnaires. This study revealed that cooking frequencies ranged between 1 and 3 times a day and required 0.8 to 1.2 hours per cooking event. There is a similarity of cooking and eating behaviour amongst ethnic groups even though slightly different household incomes exist. Carbohydrate-based food was mostly boiled; protein-based food was often saute/fried, grilled or boiled. Amongst the ethnic groups, the percentage of income allocated to food consumption may not be reflected in different average of cooking times and energy source.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"162-174"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48977558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Overall, the analysis shows that there is a positive relationship between agricultural growth and FDI. Further, the results indicate that the liberal 1997 policy of opening up the agricultural sector to FDI does not yield favourable results. Together, these results suggest that the long-term benefits of FDI inflows for Pakistan can only be fully realised when, other development issues related to domestic factors and institutions are addressed in tandem with FDI reforms. Therefore, there should be policy congruence among FDI policies and reforms with domestic developmental policies for a developing agrarian country like Pakistan to advance growth in the agriculture sector.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"60-76"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47927940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Market situation provided upward pressure on prices and producer and consumer interest was poor coupled with weak prices in the regional markets. The objectives of the study are: (a) to estimate the relationship between natural rubber (NR) price and supply, demand, and stock, while some other factors of crude oil price and exchange rate by using simultaneous supply-demand and price system equation and Vector Error Correction Method (VECM); (b) to forecast the short-term and long-term NR price; and (c) to compare and evaluate the price forecasting models. Firstly, the data was analysed by Ferris and Engle-Granger's procedure; secondly, both price forecasting methodology were tested by Pindyck-Rubinfeld and Makridakis's procedure. The result shows that VECM model is more efficient using quarterly data; a short-term price forecast is decreasing and a long-term price forecast is predicted to increasing trend of the Malaysian rubber market.","PeriodicalId":34978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agricultural Resources, Governance and Ecology","volume":"13 1","pages":"21-42"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJARGE.2017.084032","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48117583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
