One of the representatives of protective coatings are fire coatings based on Al and Al-Si, which have been used, among others, in the automotive industry. The production of Al-Si coatings using the fire method (known as: immersion) consists in immersing a previously degreased detail in a bath of molten coating metal. Al-Si coatings are applied permanently, and the connection between the coating and the substrate is ensured by the mutual diffusion of aluminum and iron, which leads to the formation of intermetallic phases. The study examines Al-Si coatings used in the automotive industry. The research included assessment of coatings in terms of structure, hardness distribution of elements, and surface condition (roughness). The chemical composition of the coatings was determined using EDX microanalysis and phase composition by diffractometric analysis. The genesis of the second generation of carbon materials has been presented. Four recognized morphological forms of the studied carbon char have been characterized. Three of them belong to the family of cellular carbons with a turbostratic structure and an extended specific surface area. The steel was fluidised bed nitrided in ammonia at temperatures of 480 and 570oC. The increase in layer thickness and/or nitrogen concentration was accompanied by the increase in compressive rest stresses up to a maximum of approx. -660MPa. The decrease of tensile strength Rm and the offset yield point R0,2 in all nitriding variants did not exceed10% in relation to the quenched and tempered sample. The decrease of the relative elongation A10 reached a maximum of 37%. In the bend test, with the increase of layer thickness and nitrogen concentration the offset yield point R0,2 increased by a maximum of approx 12%. Impact strength decreased with increasing layer thickness and nitrogen concentration up to 14%. The structure of the produced coatings was characterized by the X-ray diffraction method and scanning electron microscopy. The tests of mechanical properties were carried out using the Depth Sensing Indentation (DSI) method. The curves of dependence of the loading force as a function of the penetration depth of the indenter of the tested coatings were determined. as well as the parameters characterizing the tested materials: indentation hardness (HIT), Martens hardness (HM), elastic modulus (EIT), elastic strain index (KH) and creep (CIT). The scratch test evaluated the adhesion of the material of coatings to the steel substrate as well as between the individual layers in multilayer coatings. Multilayer Ni/Cu coatings are characterized by, nanocrystalline structure, compact construction and uniform thickness over the entire covered surface. The materials of the tested coatings differ significantly in the course of plastic deformation and elastic deformation. Due to the SPS method, it was possible to obtain the sinters practically without pores. Three types of composites Al + SiC and hybrid composites such as Al + (WC + 12Co) and Al + [SiC + (WC + 12 Co)] were produced. Their density, resistance to friction wear and surface topographic parameters have been determined. Based on the results, it has been shown that in the case of hybrid sinters, better tribological characteristics compared to composites reinforced with SIC particles only can be obtained. It was also shown that the friction coefficient primarily depends on the difference between the hardness of the pin and the disc. The aluminum coatings produced hot-dip, on the border with the steel substrate formed intermediate phases FeAl3, and Fe2Al5, which reduce the corrosion resistance and limit the possibility of forming \u0000a coated article. The paper determines the effect of the addition of 7% Si to an aluminum coating (690°C/60 s) on the microstructure thickness and type of intermediate phases as well as hardness and surface features. It has been shown that the addition of Si results in a 40 % increase in the hardness of the coating and reduce the surface roughness. Despite the fact that, in accordance with the global trend, the production of hydrocarbon carriers should be reduced, and in some countries, coal production has already been stopped (Germany), the energy sector of many countries is still to a great extent based on the use of coal. In this regard, improving the reliability of mining equipment is of great practical interest. To assess the reliability, predict the time to replace parts and plan the volume of production of spare parts, it is important for engineers to have the method for wear rate estimation. The method for this estimation, known since 1986, [1] was modified by the authors to clarify the defining constant in the equation. The clarification was made on the basis of experimental data, with the use of information from the literature and on the basis of experts’ recommendations. W atmosferach NH3/NH3zd rozporządzalność azotu regulowano zmieniając stopień rozcieńczenia atmosfery wlotowej zdysocjowanym amoniakiem. W atmosferach wlotowych NH3/N2 rozporządzalność azotu regulowano również zmieniając stopień rozcieńczenia azotem atmosfery wlotowej. W artykule wykazano między innymi, jeżeli w pierwszym stopniu procesu wartość potencjału przyjmuje wartości z obszaru trwałości fazy γ’, towarzyszy temu ograniczenie kinetyki wzrostu warstwy azotowanej. Ograniczenie to występuje również po wzroście potencjału do wartości z obszaru trwałości fazy ε. W odróżnieniu od atmosfery rozcieńczanej zdysocjowanym amoniakiem, nie ma znaczenia, czy w pierwszym stopniu procesu rozporządzalność azotu jest niska a w drugim stopniu wysoka czy też odwrotnie, końcowy efekt procesu pod względem parametrów warstwy azotowanej jak i pod względem kinetyki wzrostu grubości warstwy azotowanej jest taki sam. Pierwszy rodzaj to grupa próbek na bazie tlenku glinu zawierająca warstwy porowatego tlenku glinu z cienką warstewką węgla, warstwy porowatego tlenku glinu z wbudowaną miedzią jako fazą dyspersyjną oraz warstwy porowatego tlenku glinu z wbudowaną miedzią i dodatkową warstewką węgla. Druga grupa to powłoki cynkowe na stali oraz kompozytowe powłoki cynkowe z płatkowym grafenem jako fazą dyspersyjną. Do otrzymywania materiału węglowego w postaci płatków grafenowych oraz jako węglowej warstwy wierzchniej zastosowano metodę CVD. Powłoki charakteryzowano za pomocą mikroskopii SEM oraz spektroskopii Ramana. Oddziaływanie mikrobiologiczne wytworzonych próbek zbadano na bakteriach Escherichia coli oraz Staphylococcus aureus. Powłoki na bazie tlenku glinu nie wykazały właściwości przeciwdrobnoustrojowych. Obiecujący wynik otrzymano natomiast dla próbek cynkowych. Na powierzchni powłoki cynkowej wbudowany był proszek grafenowy. Zaobserwowano antybakteryjne działanie tych powłok.
