They make this technique very promising for numerous tasks of non-destructive testing (NDT). In addition, the nonlinear acoustic techniques in NDT should provide an improvement of contrast of defects detection of closed cracks [2]. The goal of our work is the application of nonlinear acoustic methods in laser optoacoustics. It is expected, that such a combination of two modern techniques should find an application in the industry.","PeriodicalId":346720,"journal":{"name":"CLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124827618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Erbium- and Praseodym-doped fluoride glass materials are eligible candidates for visible emission. Non-doped waveguides may find their use for beam guiding and shaping of diode laser radiation. For applications in micro-fluidics, micro mechanical systems and medical diagnostics micro-channels and hollow microstructures in fused silica are necessary. Micro-channels in fused silica and waveguides in laser active glass materials are fabricated with fs-laser pulses. The use of a high repetition rate laser and a fast scanning system potentially allow the fabrication of laser sources and micro-mechanical components with high speed.","PeriodicalId":346720,"journal":{"name":"CLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124828601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is owing to the high absorption and emission cross-section peaks and the broad emission bandwidth. They have proven their potential in diode-pumped high-power systems, profiting from the small quantum defect [1] and a reduced thermal load. In comparison to the above mentioned two materials, the relatively new crystal Yb:KLuW has not been investigated that intensively so far. Most of the relevant properties are very similar and the fluorescence lifetime is about 20 % longer. Compared to Yttrium and Gadolinium the ionic radius of Lutetium is closest to the one of Ytterbium and allows higher doping concentrations or lower stress in the crystal structure for similar doping levels, making it preferable for the thin disk concept. Efficient ultra short pulse laser oscillators have been demonstrated with Yb:KLuW [2, 3].","PeriodicalId":346720,"journal":{"name":"CLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125037576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With picosecond pumping, as we consider here, noise is inherent in the SC generation process, because the generation is initiated by modulation instability (MI), which amplifies random fluctuations in the pump pulse. Above a certain threshold power the original pulse breaks up into a train of solitons, which evolves into a supercontinuum [1]. Recently it has been shown that by seeding the four-wave mixing (FWM) gain wavelengths, SC generation close to the threshold can be accelerated and the noise can be greatly reduced [2,3]. The noise is reduced because the seed initiates the MI in a controlled manner, thereby removing a great deal of the randomness in the SC generation process [3]. The theory behind it builds on the recent discovery of Rogue waves in SC [4,5].","PeriodicalId":346720,"journal":{"name":"CLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125790513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main directions of research was to utilize fiber-integrated dispersion compensating elements in the cavity to ensure self-consistent solutions of the mode-locking mechanism, since conventional single-mode fibers (SMF) have normal dispersion below 1.3 µm. The application of hollow-core photonic bandgap fibers (HCF) for dispersion control is advantageous because in addition to their possibly anomalous group velocity dispersion (GVD) in the Yb wavelength range they have reduced nonlinearity compared to solid-core fibers. There have been experimental demonstrations of such lasers in the weakly stretched soliton [1] and in the similariton regimes [2]. These setups included free-space optics for coupling light into and out of the HCF and also for the alignment of the appropriate polarization states. However, for alignment-free operation and high stability an all-fiber setup is desired. Here we report a self-starting passively mode-locked fiber laser containing a HCF spliced into the cavity to provide anomalous GVD. The laser operates in the stretched-pulse regime, close to the zero cavity dispersion. To the best of our knowledge this is the first implementation of integrated HCF based intracavity dispersion control.","PeriodicalId":346720,"journal":{"name":"CLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference","volume":"47 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125906641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system will deliver pulses with energy of 150 joules in 15 fs pulse duration at 1 shot every minute. The OPCPA based front-end will deliver 30 mJ at 10 Hz with a spectrum having the availability to handle 10 – 15 fs pulses. The 1.5 ns stretched pulses will be further amplified up to 300 joules in Ti:Sa amplifiers. The choice of this hybrid solution has appeared to be the most efficient one in term of balance between ultra-short pulse duration and amplification efficiency and cost.","PeriodicalId":346720,"journal":{"name":"CLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126166683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
