Here we present a strategy to make the valence regulation much easier by loosening metal nodes by thermal pretreatment. The typical MOF, HKUST-1, with the tunable valence of Cu nodes, was used as a proof of concept. Thermal pretreatment (producing HK-T) changes the chemical environment and loosens Cu nodes, endowing them with enhanced reducibility. In the subsequent vapor-induced reduction, the yield of Cu<sup>+</sup> from Cu<sup>2+</sup> conversion in HK-T (producing HK-T-V) reaches 69%, which is higher than that in pristine HKUST-1 (producing HK-V) with a Cu<sup>+</sup> yield of 19% as well as the reported yields of target-valence metal nodes in various MOFs (6%–30%). The obtained HK-T-V possessing abundant Cu<sup>+</sup> sites can capture 0.809 mmol/g thiophene in adsorptive desulfurization, 2.5 times higher than HK-V and superior to most reported adsorbents.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34602,"journal":{"name":"Fundamental Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"Pages 158-164"},"PeriodicalIF":6.2,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41874113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although stannosilicate zeolites have tremendous application potential for catalyzing biomass-related compounds in aqueous media, the detailed local structures and features of the real active sites and their possible structural variations under reaction conditions are poorly understood to date. In this study, a dynamic transformation of framework Sn−O−Si sites to Sn−OH/Si−OH pairs and subsequently a pseudo-Brønsted acid in stannosilicate zeolites upon molecular adsorption, which is analogous to various adsorbates/reactants under working conditions, was identified by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy for the first time, which challenges the widespread assumption that the active center structures remain rigid/stable during the catalytic process. Firstly, 650 pivotal data points of physical and chemical quality attributes from 65 batches of honey intermediates were characterized through multiple sensors, which included rheological properties, acidity, moisture, and sugars. Furthermore, a hypersensitized TAS1R2@AuNPs/SPCE biosensor was developed to identify biological quality attributes of honey, the powerful affinities between honey intermediates and the TAS1R2 receptor were discovered (K<sub>D</sub> &lt; 1 × 10<sup>−8</sup> M), and the abnormal batches of B2, B23 and C23 were diagnosed by TAS1R2@AuNPs/SPCE biosensor and multivariable algorithm. Finally, the end-to-end dataflow containing physical, chemical and biological critical quality attributes was successfully established to interpret the quality transfer principle of honey manufacturing, which revealed that the front-end refining process was relatively unstable and the back-end refining process was a negligible influence on the quality of honey manufacturing. This framework embraces quality management, quality transfer, and biosensor information, which will contribute to discovering the quality transfer principle in industrial innovation for intelligent manufacturing.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34602,"journal":{"name":"Fundamental Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"Pages 407-418"},"PeriodicalIF":6.2,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48873167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The heterogeneity of the globus pallidus externa (GPe) has garnered wide attention, wherein significant differences in pathological changes emphasize its potential as a stimulation target with distinct mechanisms. A basal ganglia-thalamus (BG-Th) network model incorporating heterogeneous GPe is developed to explore potential optogenetic stimulation targets for treating Parkinson's disease (PD). Initially, the modulation mechanisms of single-target optogenetic stimulation on the abnormal rhythmic oscillations of BG nuclei are examined. Excitation of D1 medium spine neuron (MSN), calcium-binding protein parvalbumin (PV) GPe, and inhibition of globus pallidus interna (GPi) can effectively suppress synchronous bursting activity in GPi, while excitation of GPi promotes high-frequency discharge to disrupt beta oscillations. Furthermore, dual-target optogenetic stimulation strategies are devised to reduce energy consumption. Results show that targets with similar mechanisms exhibit additive effects, whereas targets with opposing mechanisms lead to cancellation. The underlying effective mechanisms of dual-target strategies are: enhancing the inhibitory input to GPi thus inhibiting the activity of GPi, or disrupting beta oscillations by restoring high-frequency discharges in GPi. The strategy composed of exciting D1 MSN and inhibiting GPi requires the minimum total light intensity among single-target and dual-target strategies in our simulation. Furthermore, simultaneously enhancing PV GPe and inhibiting D2 MSN achieves the greatest reduction in total energy consumption (40.8% reduction), compared to only enhancing PV GPe. The findings unveil effective circuit mechanisms of optogenetic stimulation and provide novel insights for designing precise regulatory strategies for PD.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34602,"journal":{"name":"Fundamental Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"Pages 82-92"},"PeriodicalIF":6.2,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139876348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DBS has the potential to selectively stimulate specific subcortical brain areas thus providing high-frequency electric stimulation of these regions. The nucleus accumbens (NAc), a frequent DBS target, has shown promise in treating psychiatric conditions like depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and addiction. In this review, we provide an overview across studies investigating the effects of NAc DBS in humans and animals and discuss potential mechanisms underlying its clinical efficacy. We address the anatomical properties of NAc and discuss, in particular, the frequently reported differential effects of NAc shell and NAc core DBS. Moreover, by outlining the various NAc cell types, transmitter systems (i.e., predominantly GABAergic and dopaminergic systems) and anatomical pathways that have been shown to be relevant for NAc DBS stimulation effects, we aim to further elucidate the neurobiological determinants of NAc DBS efficacy. Finally, since treatment effects of NAc DBS are most probably also related to alterations in NAc connected circuits or networks, we review studies focusing on the investigation of NAc DBS network effects. By examining these various components that are assumed to be of relevance in the context of NAc DBS, this review will hopefully contribute to increasing our knowledge about the mechanisms underlying NAc DBS and optimizing future selection of optimal DBS targets.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34602,"journal":{"name":"Fundamental Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"Pages 48-54"},"PeriodicalIF":6.2,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141712941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The well-known Benford’s law states that the first digits in many real-life numerical data sets have an asymmetric, logarithmic distribution in which small digits are more common; this asymmetry diminishes for subsequent digits, and the last digit tends to be uniformly distributed. In this paper, we investigate the digit distribution of numbers in a large mobile transaction data set with 835 million mobile transactions and payments made by approximately 460,000 users in more than 300 cities. Although the first digits of the numbers in these mobile transactions follow Benford’s law, the last digit has a strong tendency to be a lucky number or be influenced by psychological rounding. This lucky number tendency is more significant in transactions that are more strongly connected to social interactions, such as money sent as gifts or as “red envelopes” (a traditional method of gift-giving during Chinese holidays), and in transactions by individuals with potentially greater emotional needs, such as during COVID-19 outbreaks and natural disasters. This psychological rounding tendency is more common in online e-commerce payments, in-store purchases, and money transfers between individuals. These findings are key for understanding the last digit tendency and its psychological and emotional mechanisms, which could be used as an indicator of public sentiment or in methods of detecting fraudulent business activity.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34602,"journal":{"name":"Fundamental Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"Pages 370-378"},"PeriodicalIF":6.2,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139013349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research has investigated these interactions by focusing on their correlations. However, few studies have systematically prioritized them from a structural perspective through the complementarity measurements and empirically validated their policy effectiveness, such as which goals and indicators impact other SDGs most, especially in China. This study introduces a new concept known as the ‘SDG space’ by employing the “Product Space” approach in network science and economics. It measures the complementarities between SDGs and indicators through their network structures in investigating effective policy design. Using the most recent available but unpublished data for 31 Chinese provinces, the SDG space was constructed at the 17 SDG and 118 indicator levels by analyzing the probability of comparative advantage between each SDG or indicator pair co-occurring in the same place. Historical data confirm that in the ‘SDG Space’ network, a goal connected to other well-developed goals would enjoy better future growth and vice versa. The structure reveals that SDG 4 (Quality Education), 15 (Life on Land), and 1 (No Poverty) are critical goals with transformative synergies to other SDGs. Furthermore, we identified strong complementarities between land-based ecosystems and clean water and climate actions using the finer-grained indicator-level space. These findings help pave the way for China toward a sustainable future by providing science-based policy recommendations for decision-makers. They can be generally applied to other countries and regions to assist in navigating toward sustainable development.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34602,"journal":{"name":"Fundamental Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"Pages 360-369"},"PeriodicalIF":6.2,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140465815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
