More recently construction of tall buildings ranging from 10 to 50 stories have been proposed in many cities. For these buildings, wind analysis is as important as earthquake analysis, since in taller buildings, wind loads are dominant than earthquake loads at greater heights. There is a rising demand for tall structures to fulfil the occupancy requirements in congested metropolitan areas. In India, wind analysis is done according to IS 875(Part III):2015. generally engineers rely on wind tunnel experiments to understand the behaviour of winds on structures. However, for arriving at the best orientation several tests have to be conducted which is a tedious job. In this project, a necessity to adopt a different approach such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation is proposed. The objective of this project is to study the effect of wind on a statement design model which is computed using AutoCAD 3D and ANSYS CFX (using CFD methodology). The modelling of building is done on AutoCAD (3D Modelling) software. The building is consisting of two cross – sections – square (at the lower portion) and plus (in the upper portion) of the building. Various contours and streamlines and their interpretation are discussed in detail.","PeriodicalId":345208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Research and Application","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114718376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In various conditions, wind angles ranging from 0 to 90 degrees with a 30-degree gap are being used. The distance between the interference building and the model building was gradually raised from 50mm to 200mm at 50mm intervals. At a scale of 1:500, the main building model was studied. The ANSYS CFX package's validity was also tested using a rigid model with dimensions of 100mm x 100mm and a height of 700mm. The k-ε-turbulence model was utilised in the investigation, which was conducted using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and the ANSYS CFX software package. According to the analysis, changing the percentage of opening area has an influence on building stability because it affects the pressure on the leeward and windward faces. Contours and vortex formation were used to highlight the relationship between different scenarios. As the distance between the interference and model buildings expands, so does the pressure coefficient of the faces. The effects of apertures on the model building were also investigated, with 5-40% openings provided.","PeriodicalId":345208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Research and Application","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122055043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wind load effects on the high-rise building can be found using wind tunnel testing and CFD tools. Wind tunnel facilities are limited all around the world, so CFD tools can be incorporated. In this study, ANSYS CFX is used to investigate the effects of wind on different shapes of high-rise buildings. The results of numerical simulation are compared with the international standards of various countries. Streamline patterns and pressure contours on different faces are discussed in this paper. It is found that building shape and size are having a direct effect on the pressure distribution on various surfaces of the building model. Windward face pressure will always be positive in nature. In this study, the comparison is presented for the variation in the cross-sectional shape of the building model. For this purpose Model C and Model I are having considerable variations and Model X is considered for validation purposes only. It is well established that the results are within the allowable limit. This paper aims to discuss these windgenerated effects in the tall building model.","PeriodicalId":345208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Research and Application","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116740974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this present engineering technology, durable and sustainable bridges play an important role for the socio-economic development of the nation. Owners and designers have long recognized the low initial cost, low maintenance needs and long-life expectancy of pre-stressed concrete bridges. This is reflected in the increasing market share of pre-stressed concrete, which has grown from zero in 1950 to more than 55 percent today. This growth continues very rapidly, not only for bridges in the short span range, but also for long spans with excessive length which, here therefore, has been nearly the exclusive domain of structural steel. Many bridge designers are surprised to learn that precast, pre-stressed concrete bridges are usually lower in first cost than all other types of bridges coupled with savings in maintenance, precast bridges offer maximum economy. The precast pre-stressed bridge system has offered two principal advantages: it is economical and it provides minimum downtime for construction.","PeriodicalId":345208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Research and Application","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123097504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, several methods were improved to measure bulk density by using different techniques in the developed countries, while the Saturated Surface Dry (SSD) traditional method has been used in Gaza strip till present days. This study aims at providing a better understanding of the effect of the selected bulk density measurement method on the percentage of voids using four methods namely; Dimensional Method, Dry Method, Surface-Saturated Dry Method, and Paraffin Sealing Method. At Laboratory, sixty-nine specimens were prepared, thirty-three of them were prepared in the Marshal Design System in order to determine the optimum bitumen content of the three different mix types, and thirty-six of the specimens were taken from mixtures design in order to determine bulk density. Laboratory results showed that the SSD method is the best choice for measuring bulk density in dense and mastic mixtures. In addition, there are no differences between SSD and dry methods in mastic mix. The experimental study shows that the dimensional method is the only method suitable for the determination of bulk density (Gmb) in porous mix despite it always gives underestimated results for Gmb in all asphalt mixes. As a result, the dimensional method can be used as an indicator for the upper limit of voids, while the dry method can be used as an indicator to the lowest limit, regardless the type of mix. The study recommended to use new techniques to determine Gmb in open graded mixtures with more accurate methods rather than traditional ones.","PeriodicalId":345208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Research and Application","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127313726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The flow is initially subcritical (i.e. Fr < 1). Comparison between theoretical and experimental study is done to analyse the minimum contracted width such that if the width of the downstream section is more than this minimum contracted width flow can take place without any change in upstream specific energy. The abbreviated term suggests that the width of the open channel decreases and that leads to changes in the flow values of the differentiation from the others produced above. The dimensions of many water streams, which satisfy proper hydraulic conditions, may not be compatible with the designed dimensions of an irrigation work that needs to be constructed in some locations. The design requirements of such irrigation works may involve a contraction in the channel width in the required location. Then 2 models are prepared on ANSYS fluent one having width 0.190m which is more than the minimum contracted width and other having width of 0.1m which is less than minimum contracted width. Then the results are presented in the form of contours of volume fraction on the wall of model which validates the theoretical changes in upstream and downstream depths of flow in each case.","PeriodicalId":345208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Research and Application","volume":"25 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123655221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It's a nonreactive, inert particle that can float in the air for a few seconds to several months. There have been multiple researches conducted on the influence of fly ash on pavement construction. The objective of this study is to investigate how the load bearing capacity of soil changes when differing percentages of fly ash are added to the soil. The data was obtained from NTPC Badarpur. If the available soil is good in nature, we can easily create pavement; however, if the available soil is poor in nature, we can use Instead of an expensive route, fly ash can be considered as an alternative for improving soil condition. To begin, soil parameters were considered using different tests of soils, and then Atterberg Limits were estimated. On soil, a MPT (Modified Proctor Test) was used to determine the Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) and Maximum Dry Density (MDD). A sample is compacted at OMC for the CBR test, and the results are assessed in percentages of 8%, 10%, 12%, and 13% based on the dry weight of the soil. To determine the load bearing capability of soil, CBR test is used in both wet and dry situations so that the pavement can endure even the worst conditions and the thickness of the pavement can be determined.","PeriodicalId":345208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Research and Application","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130765636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, three models namely A, B, and C are analyzed on ANSYS using Computational fluid dynamics approach. These three models have a total height of 192 m built of two types of cross – sections as plus and square (below plus). These models differ by the heights of the cross sections only. Plus and square cross – section heights for Model A are 96 m each, for Model B are 48 m and 144 m respectively and for Model C are 144 m and 48 m respectively. CFD simulations are performed for wind of magnitude 10 m/s when incident on these three modes at wind incidence angle 0° and the results are interpreted in terms of pressure contours and streamlines. It is observed that designing for critical faces is a must. Also from streamlines it may be observed that as the cross – sectional height of irregular shape increase, more stability is noticed. It is also observed that the wind velocity increases at the top most points of the models.","PeriodicalId":345208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Research and Application","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133863768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A watershed is a kind of common pool resource that consists of a geohydrological unit that drains to a common location through a series of drains. All regions on the planet are part of one or more watersheds, and even small land fragments act as watersheds (for this purpose a case study on VILLAGE SIRASPUR, DELHI is also a part of MICROWATERSHEDS IN DELHI). Watershed management is problematic because watershed systems include a variety of competing uses, thus any gain or cost will be distributed unevenly across users. Theories based on common research suggest that managing complex watersheds would be challenging, and that success will be restricted to isolated, actively aided micro watershed programmes with a social organisation emphasis. The simplest way to encourage community action is at the micro watershed level, yet good hydrological management necessitates effort at the macro watershed level. It also helps in recharging groundwater which is depleting in Delhi at alarming rate.","PeriodicalId":345208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Research and Application","volume":"20 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114026927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
