In interventional lung cancer diagnosis and treatments, precise segmentation of airway trees from lung CT images provides crucial visualization for preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance to avoid major trachea injury. While 3D region growing can segment main the parts of an airway tree (trachea, left and right main bronchus, as well as bronchi), the method fails at bronchiole segmentation and is not robust. Mathematical morphology is an anatomical detective. In this paper, we propose a morphological gradient based region growing (MGRG) algorithm to overcome the intensity inhomogeneity, and improve the robustness of 3D region growing on extraction of bronchioles. The MGRG algorithm is validated using lung CT images, and results show that it is able to segment bronchioles, and outperforms the traditional region growing method on airway tree segmentation.","PeriodicalId":345164,"journal":{"name":"International Symposium on Bioelectronics and Bioinformations 2011","volume":"170 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115644249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The EMG decoding method using “refractory period” and “threshold” is appropriate for real-time processing system due to its low algorithm complexity and the good fidelity of time domain information. In this paper, the distribution of intervals between continuous wavelet transform modulus maxima was analyzed to provide a reasonable determination of the “refractory period”. In addition, the source signals were decoded according to the “refractory period”. Promising results are demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":345164,"journal":{"name":"International Symposium on Bioelectronics and Bioinformations 2011","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127318484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A coordinator in a BAN plays a significant role to collect signals from sensors and interface with telecommunication networks. Since the wireless channel of BAN is very complicated and changeable, the modulation is not fixed. As a result, the coordinator must have different demodulators. In this paper, we propose a method to design a low-power circuit which can both demodulate BPSK and QPSK by using the technique of datapath merging. The results of the experiments show that the proposed demodulator implementation can reduce around 23% hardware area compared with the traditional implementation.","PeriodicalId":345164,"journal":{"name":"International Symposium on Bioelectronics and Bioinformations 2011","volume":"81 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114330419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It possesses some unique advantages, e.g. non-destructive, non-invasive and quantitative analysis, and it can be used to image for phase-type objects. In this paper, gastric cancer cells at different stages of cell division were studied employing transmission experimental setup, and the intensity image and phase image of the cells were obtained. The cell sizes were calculated and the cell structures were analyzed according to the intensity and phase images. The result shows that digital holographic phase-contrast microscopy can be used to 3D imaging of microscopic phase object under marker-free condition and real-time quantitative measurement. Different from the traditional voltage-clamp technique to extract each ion channel parameters of a neuron, the method proposed in this paper only need to record the inter-spike interval sequences of the neuron's output. Based on the principle of symbolic dynamics, the action potential sequences can be symbolized without high precision measurement. By computing the distance between symbolic sequences can analyze the degree of nearness between the two orbits, and then use dichotomy to find the optimal parameters. The longer the output spike sequence is, the higher precision estimation can be achieved. The proposed method is efficient for parameter estimation in unstable neural systems, and has a certain reference value for creating neural models from neural electrophysiological experiments.","PeriodicalId":345164,"journal":{"name":"International Symposium on Bioelectronics and Bioinformations 2011","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129102623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This design approach, which is based on the well-known target field method, is capable of designing shielded gradient coil of finite length by describing the current density distribution on the surface of the coil in the form of Fourier series. Asymmetric coil with constraints such as torque balance can also be designed using this approach. Design examples of a shielded X gradient coil for whole body imaging and a shielded torque-balanced asymmetric X gradient coil for head imaging were given in this paper. The design process and results prove that this design approach is efficient and practical.","PeriodicalId":345164,"journal":{"name":"International Symposium on Bioelectronics and Bioinformations 2011","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121669977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
