In AlKharj, a vibrant governorate in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, traditional traffic management systems struggle to address these issues effectively. To tackle these challenges, we propose an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) framework aimed at transforming transportation infrastructure towards greater sustainability and resilience. This study highlights AI-driven advancements in traffic management, accident prevention, and energy optimization for AlKharj’s growing urban environment. We develop predictive models for accident hotspots, adaptive traffic systems, and fuel-efficient routing. Using Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), we forecast accident trends and energy consumption, providing strategic insights for urban planning. Our findings demonstrate the potential of AI to enhance efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability in transportation, setting a benchmark for future sustainable urban mobility initiatives worldwide.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100407"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2025-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143104603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on a two-wave survey of 397 hotel employees in an emerging economy, Vietnam, the results show that top management green commitment, directly and indirectly, influences in-role employee green performance through employee green passion and employee green commitment. Additionally, the indirect effect of management green commitment on employee in-role green performance through employee green commitment has a stronger effect than through employees’ green passion. Furthermore, adverse working conditions constitute a boundary condition that mitigates the effects of top management green commitment, employee green passion, and employee green commitment on employee in-role green performance. Experimental evidence from China","authors":"Junkai Sun , Xin Fang , Xinyue Gao , Guilin Dai","doi":"10.1016/j.sftr.2025.100431","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.sftr.2025.100431","url":null,"abstract":"<div><div>Low-carbon economic development is seen as a crucial strategic goal for governments globally, with China being particularly challenged with unprecedented pressure to decrease emissions. Conventional macro policies such as environmental regulations hinder economic development, while promoting low-carbon transformation through Free Trade Zone (FTZ) strategy is conducive to achieving coordination between economic development and environmental improvement. Based on adequate theoretical foundation, this paper evaluates the environmental effect of the FTZ strategy by using the spatial staggered difference-in-differences method (SDID) with the data of 270 cities in China from 2007 to 2019. The findings indicate that: Firstly, the implementation of the FTZ strategy has a dual effect on the low-carbon transformation of cities. Specifically, it has a favorable impact on local cities and generates a positive spatial spillover effect on neighboring cities. To a certain extent, the general DID model tends to underestimate the policy effect of the FTZ strategy. Secondly, the FTZ strategy is capable of driving the low-carbon transformation of cities through three mechanisms: promoting the upgrading of industrial structure, accelerating the process of marketization, and enhancing the efficiency of energy. Thirdly, the impact of different locations and batches of FTZ on urban low-carbon transformation is heterogeneous. Fourthly, the spatial spillover effect of the FTZ strategy on urban low-carbon transformation exhibit spatial heterogeneity, with the optimal policy spillover radius being approximately 50–150 km. This paper seeks to elucidate the issue of China's low-carbon transformation development by examining the impact of FTZ strategy and providing insights into the path of low-carbon transformation development. The findings of this paper are expected to contribute to the alleviation of international pressure on China to reduce emissions and provide effective reference for other countries to promote low-carbon transition.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100431"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2025-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143104600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the effect of internal social media on employee green behavior (EGB) and its underlying relationships remains unclear. This study examined green communication strategies used by organizations to encourage EGB on internal social media. Based on two experimental studies, the current research investigated the effect of internal social media post on EGB, and the interplay between message framing and construal levels to evaluate how framed messages of internal social media post trigger employees’ self-efficacy in promoting EGB. Study 1 revealed that internal social media messages could effectively encourage employees’ self-efficacy and further generate EGB. Following the results of study 1, study 2 revealed that loss-framed messages paired with a concrete condition on internal social media effectively induce employees’ self-efficacy and encourage EGB. The results demonstrated that the most effective communication strategy for delivering green messages on internal social media is to induce employees’ self-efficacy. Social media messages can inspire employees who do not currently engage in EGB to take action and adopt green practices. Thus, marketing managers of the organizations can create novel framed internal social media posts to encourage employees to engage in EGB.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100425"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143104602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quantitative methodology was used to collect survey data from 517 millennials. The data was analysed using partial least square-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Environmental attitude (EA), environmental subjective norms (ESN), GHC, belief about the cost of GE, and environmental concern were found to have a positive relationship with the consumer's intention to use GE and their WTP for GE. Results show that perceived behavioural control (PBC) had an insignificant influence on millennial consumers’ intention to use GE. This study makes practical and theoretical contributions by providing insights into the drivers of GE consumption intentions of millennial consumers. The main focus of the NEDC is energy-intensive enterprises, however, the policy effect on these enterprises’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) is still underdiscussed. This study uses a panel data of Chinese listed energy-intensive enterprises during 2009–2022 and a difference-in-differences model to examine whether the NEDC boosts corporate ESG. The findings indicate that the NEDC can effectively improve the ESG of energy-intensive enterprises, and this result remains robust following various tests. We also decompose ESG into three sub-factors, i.e., environmental (E), social (S) and governance (G), revealing the NEDC's promotional influence on S and G. Our quantile analysis shows a more significant enhancing effect of the NEDC on enterprises with lower ESG than on those with higher ESG. The mechanism analysis reveals that the NEDC affects enterprises’ ESG through technological innovation, confirming the Porter hypothesis in China. Finally, our research confirms that the promotional effect of the NEDC on enterprises’ ESG is notably reflected for non-state-owned enterprises and enterprises in the eastern area. These findings suggest that the Chinese government should adhere to implementing the NEDC in the long term, promote technological innovation, and adjust this policy appropriately, so as to make the policy effect longer and broader, and finally achieve sustainable development goals.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100426"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143172213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
