The digital economy plays a crucial role in advancing the ‘dual-carbon’ goal and fostering green, low-carbon, sustainable development amid the new information technology revolution. Nevertheless, empirical evidence on how the digital economy enhances the ICGCR remains limited. This study, based on urban behavioral choice theory, develops an indicator system for ICGCR, using the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to explore the digital economy's impact on the ICGCR. It considers both internal and external influence paths and regulatory mechanisms from industrial and financial perspectives. Results indicate that the digital economy significantly enhances the ICGCR, particularly in passive ICGCR, the conclusion remains valid after robustness testing. The impact of the digital economy on the ICGCR varies significantly, with different pathways yielding distinct effects, influenced by industrial structure upgrades and financial development levels. This study enhances theoretical framework for the ICGCR, broadens research on the digital economy's impact on emissions, and offers valuable insights for promoting green, low-carbon sustainable development in a digital context.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100416"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143104552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study highlights the developer's extended aftercare and on-site support that has a focus on engaging residents in behaviour change and low-carbon community building (termed the ‘softer landings' approach<span><span><sup>1</sup></span></span>). The research employs a mixed method approach, with multiple sources of data from in-depth interviews, a focus group discussion, and questionnaire surveys, as well as energy consumption data from Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) on four projects over two development sites completed between 2016 and 2019. The findings suggest that extended aftercare and on-site support from the developer could cultivate a self-supporting low-carbon community that promotes peer learning and support, behaviour change, decreases energy consumption and leads to user satisfaction. The research proposes a model where the positive outcomes of the ‘softer landings approach’ could in turn drive the demand-side market for low-carbon dwellings, create further business opportunities for the developer, mitigate capital cost and resources invested in the extended aftercare, and generate business growth. Recommendations for this model to be replicated and upscaled through professional networks, and supported through policy and regulatory frameworks in the UK are presented as a constructive way forward in order to achieve the government's decarbonisation goals.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100401"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143171363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors employed the Scopus database to collect and analyse academic literature from 2015 to 2023. Additionally, they reviewed United Nations reports to complement the academic data with a statistical analysis of the progress made in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The results revealed discrepancies in this progress, with advances in poverty eradication, responsible consumption and production and climate action. However, more progress is needed to reduce hunger, preserve life on land and below water, promote peace, establish justice and strengthen institutions. This lack of focus is also mirrored in the most cited academic research on strategic management and sustainable development. The analysed research experienced a 13.0 % annual growth, with an average of 26.9 citations from 84 countries. The bibliometric analysis identified further research areas, including sustainable economic development, business sustainability strategies, leadership, and the impact of global disruptions. Thus, reflecting the challenges of achieving the United Nations Agenda 2030 in the context of global disruptions, this study confirmed the increasing role of integrating sustainable development considerations into strategic management research and highlighted the need for more research and action to meet the SDGs.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100414"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143104548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The circular economy offers a new business model, contrasting the traditional take-make-waste approach. In this context, the present study seeks to identify barriers at operational, strategic, and tactical levels in transition towards circular economy. The article focuses on recognizing barriers from an organizational viewpoint, using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to help decision-makers identify obstacles in implementing circularity principles. A total of 24 barriers, grouped into five categories, were identified for a pharmaceutical company. Findings reveal numerous barriers, including technology, finances, return on investment, policies and regulations, stakeholder management, and corporate strategy, all of which impact organizational sustainability efforts. Reverse logistics emerged as a critical concern due to the toxic nature of products, requiring stringent take-back mechanisms. This study is unique in assessing parameters within the framework of the triple bottom line and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production) and SDG 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure). The research evaluates GSM implementation challenges using circular and sustainable criteria to support achieving SDG 12.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100413"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143104547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Disasters shift people from stability to vulnerability, requiring innovative service access. Thus, it becomes imperative for service-oriented companies, especially online food delivery platforms, to craft a transformative value proposition by discerning the factors that enhance customer experience. In this regard, a case study focusing on the customer experience of Snap Food in the online space of the food delivery sector in Iran was conducted in order to investigate the factors affecting the online customer experience and also to determine the interrelationships between these factors. After reviewing previous studies, 39 factors were obtained, which were screened after three stages of the Delphi method and the opinion of 15 experts, and 22 factors were finalized as factors that influence online customer experience. To determine the interrelationship between the factors, analysis was performed using the Total Interpretive Structural Modeling (TISM) approach. These factors were placed in 6 levels. Following this, the Matrix Multiplication Applied to Classification (MICMAC) was applied to classify the factors into different clusters based on their impact on others. The study revealed that 'Human-to-human interaction,' 'Demographic experience,' 'Consistency,' and 'Services standardization' indicators are critical drivers of customer experience. This research aids online food delivery platforms in understanding and prioritising factors to create a transformative value proposition for improved customer experience during crises.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100408"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-12-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143104559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Built upon an extended STIRPAT (Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, and Technology) framework, we expand the original model to include sectoral growth, trade openness and quality of government institutions. Given the high dimensionality of the data and potential nonlinearities in relationships, we employ advanced machine learning regression techniques like ridge, LASSO, elastic net and kernel-regularised least squares (KRLS) to perform segmented analyses across low, lower-middle, upper-middle and high-income countries. Our findings reveal complex, income-dependent environmental impacts, with growth in lower-income groups typically worsening environmental quality and resource depletion, while wealthier countries suffer reduced environmental strain. While the inverted U-shaped EKC is observed in most cases, more complex patterns, such as an M-shaped curve, emerge as countries progress economically. The study employs a global vector autoregression (GVAR) model to elucidate the intricate interdependencies intrinsic to the global economy. The findings indicate that oil, natural gas, and coal price shocks have a positive impact on the current account balances of energy exporting countries and a negative impact on those of energy importing countries. This effect is more pronounced in countries with a higher level of energy dependency, while the development of renewable energy sources plays a role in mitigating the adverse effects of energy price volatility. This study investigated the determinants of agricultural cooperative membership and its impact on the poverty status of smallholder farming households in Nigeria. Primary data were gathered from 240 smallholder farming households using a multistage sampling procedure. The Foster, Greer, and Thorbecke (FGT) Index and the Endogenous Switching Probit Regression Model (ESPM) were used to analyze the data. The study concluded that most rural households were male (86 %), small scale, and at the prime of their productive age (57 years). The result further revealed that most (57.5 %) of the respondents are members of agricultural cooperatives. The results of the FGT poverty measure also indicate that the majority (67 %) of the smallholder farming households were poor. The result of the ESPM revealed that gender, years of education, land ownership, household size, years of farming experience, access to credit, and asset ownership significantly influence the membership of smallholder farmers in agricultural cooperatives. The second stage of the ESPM revealed that gender, education, land ownership, household size, years of farming experience, access to credit, asset ownership, and membership in other forms of cooperatives significantly affect poverty status among the agricultural cooperative members. Meanwhile, among non-members of agricultural cooperatives, variables such as gender, years of education, land ownership, farm size, access to credit, membership in other forms of cooperatives, and asset ownership significantly affect the poverty status of smallholder farmers. These findings reveal that there is a statistically significant relationship between the poverty status of smallholder farming households and their membership in agricultural cooperatives.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":34478,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Futures","volume":"9 ","pages":"Article 100399"},"PeriodicalIF":3.3,"publicationDate":"2024-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143104550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
