Data centers are the places where Information Technology and Communications equipment are hosted. From the day when the first computer was developed, the room that houses the mainframe faced with challenges regarding power and cooling requested, redundancy and availability for the systems to avoid any interruption, also with capacity planning for future expansions. All back-up and hot stand-by system are more often over-sized the focus are on availability nor on efficiency. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) evolution, the need to compute and store more information lead to exponential increase of ICT equipment. The technology evolution lead to changes of equipment hosted in Data Centers with more performant systems but with high density of energy consumed. The virtualization of services is a way to increase computing performance with increasing utilization load of processors. Overall IT systems providing, the same functionality more efficient, consuming less power. Usually the evolution of ICT infrastructure (consolidation) is not correlated with facility changes that will impact the performance of existing data center. Increasing the power density in an operational computer room will produce a major impact to cooling system capacity and efficiency. The challenge is to avoid overheat areas (hot spots) and to provide same environment condition without changing the space geometry or design, increasing the efficiency and optimize energy consumption.","PeriodicalId":343896,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference and Exposition on Electrical And Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130305927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new regulations imply increasing the security level in operation and meeting minimum requirements for fault mode assistance. In this context, the provision of redundant solutions becomes imperative. Another critical requirement is to achieve a high degree of efficiency (minimum energy consumption). This involves the development of actuation systems and specific control algorithms that increase safety, efficiency and fault tolerance behavior. Based on the abovementioned aspects, this paper proposes a study on a redundant drive concept that can be successfully integrated into the steering or brake systems of current vehicles and also fulfils the basic requirements for autonomous driving. In order to validate the theoretical aspects contained in this study, two distinct ways of modelling and simulation were used: FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis and equivalent mathematical equations implemented in MATLAB / Simulink software environment.","PeriodicalId":343896,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference and Exposition on Electrical And Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"14 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131923831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to be able to provide power for the load, photovoltaic (PV) has to receive solar radiation to convert into electricity, through the converters to obtain such responses as voltage, frequency, etc. suitable for the load. However, this conversion creates the harmonics, one of the factors that reduce power quality and damages the devices. This paper studies two passive single-tuned and double-tuned passive filters coupled with converters for off-grid solar system. By means of simulation from Matlab/Simulink software, a solar conversion system and filters are built to meet the load requirements of 1kW and rated voltage of 220V. The results show that the double-tuned filter offers better harmonics filtering than the single-tuned filter, very low output voltage distortion for stable loads.","PeriodicalId":343896,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference and Exposition on Electrical And Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132157925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These electrical devices can experience multiple types of faults within them. Mechanical defects are relatively difficult to detect since they occur inside the structure of the power transformer. Magnetostriction can create this type of faults in magnetic core and electrodynamic forces can cause them in windings. Diagnostic methods mainly use vibration information from the surface of transformer. This is an indirect approach and causes additional errors since vibrations need to propagate transformer structure before sensors receive them. However, it is possible to calculate the mechanical situation in windings by modelling this part of the transformer as a mass and spring system with forces acting upon it and applying dynamic genetic algorithm. This paper describes a model created in COMSOL and Matlab software and a case study for a segment of windings displays the acquired results.","PeriodicalId":343896,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference and Exposition on Electrical And Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132935367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to pure random nature of solar and wind characteristics, the Bayes network methodology was selected to study the available generated power of given resources non-optimally located but near the load. The Bayes networks were generated from a large database. The corresponding information was recorded using a professional meteorological station while the Essential Graph Search was the algorithm to generate the final Bayes network structure and parameters. The network allows for weather estimation also. The final results were validated by meteorological experts.","PeriodicalId":343896,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference and Exposition on Electrical And Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115426831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
