The critical value of government debt as a percent of GDP is estimated to be 69.22%, which is higher than the EU criterion of 60.00% but less than the threshold of 90.00% proposed by Reinhart and Rogoff (2010).","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124084669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Infrastructure augmented gravity model was estimated using total bilateral exports for the countries in East Africa. Infrastructure was disaggregated into transport and information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructures. Two institutional variables, control of corruption index and regulatory quality, were incorporated in the model. By employing Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimator, the results confirm that both ICT and transport infrastructures and quality institutions positively impact on the volumes of total bilateral exports in East Africa. However, ICT infrastructure has a greater impact on trade flows compared to transport infrastructure. Therefore, more resources should be channelled towards increasing the stock of ICT infrastructure to propel trade and regional integration in East Africa.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131618085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Serbia’s most developed destinations (in the field of city tourism Belgrade and Novi Sad, spa tourism Vrnjačka Banja and Sokobanja, and mountain tourism Zlatibor and Kopaonik) were chosen as the subject of research. The first part of the paper discusses the connection between the study of tourist destinations, on the one hand, and human resources, on the other hand. In the second part of the paper, corresponding conclusions are drawn regarding the influence of human resources on the development of the leading tourist destinations in Serbia by using systematization and presentation of statistical data, by analyzing the quantification of the effect of employment on tourism overnight stays, based on regression analysis, using the analytic-synthetic and comparative methods.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131091957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of the study is to incorporate transportation activities and trade into the EKC model seeing transportation as an important factor that determines environmental degradation in Nigeria. Annual data from 1984 to 2014 is used in the study, whereas ARDL estimation technique was adopted to analyse the data. The results show that all the variables have a positive significant correlation with carbon emissions in Nigeria except trade that was negative and insignificant. According to ARDL estimates,trade, import transport services and GDP per capita have positive impact on CO2 emissions in the long-run while in the short-run, the result shows that trade, GDP per capita, energy consumption and transport services are capable of correcting about 74% deviation of carbon emissions back to long-run equilibrium. Based on the findings, drawn conclusion stipulates that energy consumption and trade are the main determinant factors that contribute to carbon emission and appropriate attention should be given to energy consumption by considering alternative efficient energy sources to curb the increasing emission in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"257 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133174108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using structural models of oligopoly behavior, this research estimates the market power in the U.S. beer (manufacturing) industry over a 30-year period, during which the sector experienced a rapid increase in concentration and the demise of many small firms. The results show that the beer market is price-sensitive, and that both distilled spirits and carbonated soft drinks were substitutes for beer. While we were unable to detect the impact of the labor and material costs for the price of beer, we found that the federal tax on beer increased beer prices. Our results indicate that while there was some indication of market power, U.S. brewers did not exert oligopoly power over downstream firms (distributors and retailers).","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129857546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various authors have examined residents’ attitudes towards the impacts of tourism development from different points of view. This paper aimed to investigate the impacts of sociodemographic characteristics of locals on their attitudes towards tourism development. The study was conducted on the territory of Sirinićka Župa, in the municipality of Štrpce. A total of 94 respondents were included in the research. The results indicated that gender and education level have not influenced residents’ attitudes. On the other hand, it has been found that the age and length of residents’ significantly influence residents’ attitudes towards tourism development impacts.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114151249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Entrepreneurial firms face two major problems. The first concerns access to finance, which places particular restraint on a firm’s ability to increase the level of technology in their business. The second problem is access to know-how. The subject of this survey is the role of venture capital funds in the development of newly established companies and its potential application in the Republic of Srpska. In the Anglo-Saxon countries, newly emerged enterprises that start their business from scratch are called start-up companies. The assumption that venture capital financing can give newly established companies bigger chances of succeeding in their start-up stage is made. It is known that our companies provide capital through bank loans which have lately become less available especially to early stage businesses. Therefore, in order for companies to achieve their goals and develop their projects they must finance their business through venture capital funds that are willing to invest in start-up companies.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115872251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There have already been several studies on modeling various aspects of WIS. This paper attempts to investigate the most recent paradigms of WIS description taking into account the Web service approaches, Service Oriented Architecture and Cloud computing. One of the modeling and analysis approaches is the Artifact Centric Business Process that unifies both the behavioural and information aspects of business processes carried out in a WIS environment. The information aspect frequently incorporates in the form of unstructured or semi-structured document that indirectly influences the content of the underlying database through several tiers of the given architecture. A business event stimulates a business process along with some set of data and triggers a process at the user interface level. The process initiates a chain of processes that goes through the tiers of architecture until the content of the database is affected. The Story Algebra, or more generally the Process Algebra approach provides a formal framework that promises a formal describing method for modeling precisely the event triggered processes coupled with data in document format.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123830792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is to identify the key stimulants and restrictions of development of SPs in the Republic of Serbia, and to propose measures, the application of which can increase their long-term sustainability. The paper is based on exploratory research using data covering 27 interviews with founders of social enterprises in the Republic of Serbia. By applying the methods of regression analysis, it was found that favorable financial resources (especially grants) are the key stimulants for the establishment of social enterprises, while the enthusiasm of managers of social enterprises has the greatest impact on their development. It was found also that legal regulations and the macroeconomic environment, as well as difficulties in accessing the market, are serious restrictions on the establishment of social enterprises, while lack of knowledge in the field of marketing and management limit the development of social enterprises in the Republic of Serbia.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123492045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
