The Toda-Yamamoto Granger Causality approach was used for causal analysis and Johansen cointegration technique to verify the long-run relationship between model variables. The results supported the conservation hypothesis with unidirectional causality from employment to energy consumption, but no evidence of cointegration was established. The study recommends that Nigeria should review its energy policy in order to promote private investment in renewable energy projects towards finding a sustainable solution to help solve the energy crisis, create employment opportunities, and minimise environmental pollution peculiar to long-term use of fossil fuel.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127439642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides the impact on the economic growth, the authors analyze all possible causal interrelationships to discern patterns and directions of causality among FDI, imports, exports, and GDP. The quantitative analysis, which is based on the vector error correction co-integration framework, is conducted separately for each country in order to assess their individual experiences and allow for a comparative view. Although the precise details differ across countries, the findings indicate that there is a long-run equilibrium relationship between economic openness and GDP in all ASEAN-5 economies. FDI, imports and exports have a significantly positive short-run and long-run impact on the economic growth. Our results also show that export-led growth is the most important economic growth factor in most countries, followed by FDI-led growth. Another crucial finding is the bi-directional causality between exports and FDI across the ASEAN-5 countries. This indicates the presence of direct and indirect effects on GDP and a self-reinforcing process of causality between those two variables, which strengthens their impact on the economic growth.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126700720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Uprkos cinjenici da je povremeno bio pogođen krizom prouzrokovanom brojnim ekonomskim i neekonomskim ciniocima, uspeo je da se brže oporavi i beleži vecu stopu rasta u odnosu na ostale segmente privrede. Ovaj rad ispituje uticaj ekonomske krize i drugih neekonomskih cinilaca na razvoj turizma u Srbiji tokom perioda 2007-2014, sa posebnim naglaskom na Zlatibor kao jednu od popularnih turistickih destinacija. Cilj ovog rada jeste da pokaže da je pomenuta kriza imala ogroman uticaj na kretanja domacih i stranih turista u Srbiji i na Zlatiboru tokom navedenog perioda. Na osnovu dostupnih podataka, sprovedeno je istraživanje ciji su rezultati pokazali da su ekonomski faktori doveli do pada u broju turista u Srbiji, kao i da je ekonomska kriza imala veci uticaj na kretanja domacih turista nego na kretanja stranih turista u zemlji.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117160234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis was conducted on a sample that included approximately 31.35% of the total available hotel capacity in Serbia for the period from 2004 to 2011. The sample was designed to be representative of the hotel distribution by territory and category. Business performance of hotel companies was analyzed using TREVPAR and GOPPAR indicators both at the national level, for tourism clusters and the largest Serbian cities. The results show that hotel companies in Serbia, on average, achieved low TREVPAR and GOPPAR values. In 2011, the average TREVPAR of companies in Serbia was 28 EUR, and GOPPAR approximately 3.7 EUR. The study registered a significant decline in the value of these indicators for the period from 2008 to 2011, primarily as a result of the economic crisis. Results significantly better than the national average were achieved by hotel companies from Belgrade that had a mean TREVPAR value of 46.2 EUR and GOPPAR value of 8.6 EUR. During the analyzed period, the largest increase in the value of the analyzed indicators was registered in the city of Kragujevac as a result of significant investments made by the car manufacturer “Fiat” and its sub-contractors. These investments have led to a significant increase in the number of foreign tourist arrivals and consequently to an increase in business performance of hotel companies in Kragujevac.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132140623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to identify the impact of tax forms on economic growth and their relationship, the authors decided to set up a panel regression where gross domestic product is the dependent variable, while corporate income tax, value added tax, social security contributions and excises are independent variables. The results of random effect model have shown that corporate income tax, value added tax and social security contributions have a positive impact on the gross domestic product, while excises affect the gross domestic product negatively. However, only value added tax has a statistically significant impact on economic growth in these countries, with each increase in revenue from this tax contributing to the growth of gross domestic product in the observed period.","PeriodicalId":341851,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Economics","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114439999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
