While there is a vast number of people with different cultural mores and beliefs, it is more apparent now than ever for healthcare providers to keep current with the cultural preferences of patients who wish to die at home. Islam is a faith that is practiced not only in Muslim countries but is widespread throughout the world. As such, it is unique in its facets. Having a skilled, knowledgeable healthcare workforce that is familiar with these facets is required in order to facilitate a good death at home. This is one where the patient feels valued and is enabled to die with dignity and be cared for by healthcare providers who are familiar with their beliefs and practices. This narrative review seeks to embrace and enlighten those healthcare providers who wish to become familiar with the preferences of patients of the Islamic faith who wish to die at home.","PeriodicalId":340840,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Nursing","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123955646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, patient and caregiver’s satisfaction is considered one measure for evaluating quality of care. Aim of the study: The study aimed to identify mothers’ satisfaction with care provided for their children in PICU and to investigate the relationship between demographic and clinical data of the child and level of mothers’ satisfaction. Methods: A descriptive research design was conducted on a convenience sample of 108 mothers and their children admitted to Mansoura University Children’s Hospital (MUCH). Parent satisfaction survey (PSS) was used after making modifications for data collection, in addition to demographic and clinical data of studied mothers and children. Results: The results of this study found a statistically significant relation between the education level of mothers and the total score of mothers’ satisfaction. In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between length of hospital stay, previous admission to PICU and communication, and parental participation subscale domain (P>0.05). Conclusion: The study concluded that mothers participation in care provided for their children and good communication from the health care team are significant to mothers’ satisfaction. Therefore, we recommend training programs should be implemented about effective communication skills between all of the health care team and pediatric patients as well as their parents.","PeriodicalId":340840,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Nursing","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114643681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though it has one of the youngest populations in the region, life expectancy in Qatar is increasing and the local population is aging. An increase in the population over the age of 65, particularly for those having pre-existing chronic health conditions, poses challenges in providing high quality healthcare. One of these challenges is in securing a nursing workforce knowledgeable about the special health needs of the aged, and skilled in providing their care within the cultural context of an Arab Muslim country. One strategy to address this challenge is to make a conscious shift in nursing education that highlights the need to equip student nurses with adequate knowledge and developed skills to care for the aging population of Qatar. Nurses who teach in this context must be prepared to deliver a curriculum that is evidence based and culturally sensitive to the norms and practices that are prevalent in the country. This article discusses the current population trends in Qatar, culture specific challenges to providing high quality aged care, and the subsequent necessity of educating a nursing workforce that is knowledgeable and skilled in geriatric care.","PeriodicalId":340840,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Nursing","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116104198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
