While conventional learning methods usually face difficulties in keeping students envolved and motivated, games are able to keep players engaged for hours without losing focus. However, the integration of gaming elements into education must be well thought. Therefore, appropriate design methodologies and guidelines are necessary for successful implementation of educational games. This paper provides an overview of available frameworks for creating educational games, as well as a comparison of them.","PeriodicalId":339339,"journal":{"name":"2021 19th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126709568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the developed web scraping function, Moodle course logs can now be downloaded automatically. In addition, by integrating with the previously developed preprocessing system, teachers can see the clickstream of the learner's material in real-time in a time-series cross-section by simply launching the program during class. It has also become clear that the use of web scraping technology will increase the possibility of analyzing and automating learning logs in real-time from various aspects.","PeriodicalId":339339,"journal":{"name":"2021 19th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131834840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are several obstacles that remain in the way of achieving equitable gender representation in Higher Education on a global level. In particular, the effect of a traditional middle eastern culture that could limit and curtail the advancement of women in both leadership and authorship roles. In this paper we investigate gender diversity in an American university established in the Middle East. We leverage the coveted first author position as a proxy for author leadership and measure the quantity of publications with either male or female first authors. Additionally, we rely on JIF percentile and CNCI as quality indicators, to qualify the prestige and contributions made by either gender. Our findings suggest that this American university has shown better gender representation than its counterparts in the US with over 36.7% of all first author published articles in 2020 being women compared to the 33.1% of American institutions. We also demonstrate that on average female first author publications have slightly higher JIF percentile and CNCI than their male counterparts.","PeriodicalId":339339,"journal":{"name":"2021 19th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126813319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Education was not an exception - the whole educational process for people around the world had to stop and freeze for a while, so that migration from the offline, class-based and face-to-face education to a completely online, remote method of conducting classes can be implemented. This switch happened literally overnight and was not optional, but necessary. Each party involved in the educational process didn't have time to systematically prepare for this change; instead it had to adapt and on a large scale even improvise. Long-term consequences from this major shift from offline to online type of facilitating educational activities are yet to be seen. In this study, the student's achievement and satisfaction while visiting offline, online and combined classes are measured, compared and conclusions are made based on the results from the groups that have been subject of our study. The data has been collected from students visiting intensive workplace related courses in the field of computer programming for a period of 10 months. The conclusions focus on what are some of the best ways to utilize the educational process in the future, which activities are robust enough and do not reflect changes in student behaviour when organized online and which activities are crucial to be held in a traditional class manner with a final goal - retain and increase student's achievement and satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":339339,"journal":{"name":"2021 19th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132830459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, it is becoming increasingly necessary to clarify the role played by the peers' motivation in this activity. Indeed, although it is reasonable to expect that intrinsic motivation can influence the ability to perform correct peer assessments. Nowadays, to the best of our knowledge, only a few studies have been carried out on this subject. In this paper, aiming at providing evidence about the role that intrinsic motivation does play in the peer assessment activity, we report on a preliminary empirical evaluation, where we test the presence of potential correlation between intrinsic motivation and ability to assess. Our correlation results show that the greater is the ability to judge other peers' tasks, in digital mode, the greater was the motivation, expressed by the necessity to be satisfied and to feel self-realized in carrying out that activity. Overall, our preliminary findings make us confident about the role that intrinsic motivation plays in the peer assessment activity and open up the need to consider the motivation in future peer assessment studies and models.","PeriodicalId":339339,"journal":{"name":"2021 19th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114788622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants presented three types of essay reports in response to the assignments given. A number of simple metrics were extracted from these essay reports using lexical analysis. The relationships between these metrics and conventional essay assessments were examined. Also, the relationships between these metrics and factor scores of CTDs were analysed. In the results, it is shown that some of the metrics contributed to the development of CTD, while student's characteristics affected factor scores primarily. The results confirmed the possibility of using metrics of essay report characteristics to estimate scores of CTDs.","PeriodicalId":339339,"journal":{"name":"2021 19th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123969247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
