Objectives: investigate the comparative role of traditional tutorial and small group discussion on student’s learning. Methods:This is a cross sectional questionnaire-based study, conducted in Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Medical and Dental College for a period of 1 week. Ninety students of pharmacology department were selected for this study. For tutorial 3 batches of 30 students were taught for 2 hours, whereas for SGD each batch was further subdivided into three batches of 10 students per group.  A validated questionnaire was given to students after each teaching strategy. All the students who were present and willing to participate in this study were included. Results: In our study > 70% students found SGD to be interactive, had better learning, relevant to the topic, improved their confidence level and they were better able to solve the problems. Conclusions: SGD is better way of conducting a tutorial as compared to traditional way, in which no of students per group is much bigger. Students find it more interactive, therefore staff should be trained to conduct SGD on regular basis.","PeriodicalId":338468,"journal":{"name":"Health Professions Educator Journal","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139368145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seeing the vital role which curriculum plays in medical education, regular evaluation and feedback have to be the norm. Objective: The objective of study was to gauge the perceptions of undergraduate students regarding teaching, learning and assessment methodologies alongside the strengths, weaknesses in curriculum implementation. Methods: This mixed-method study was conducted at Amna Inayat Medical College, Sheikhupura, from February 2022 until May 2022.The quantitative data from 4th year MBBS students was analysed through the filling of a pre-validated questionnaire through a Qualtrix-generated link by students. For the qualitative part, seven students were invited to participate in the FGD. Transcripts of the focus group discussion were transcribed by Atlast Ti and analysed for themes, subthemes, and quotes. Results: Fourth year students (n = 96) participated in the study. The percentage of positive feedback regarding content coherence, class participation, and teaching methodologies was 59%, 76%, and 57%, respectively. 58% of students rated small group discussions (SGD) as the best teaching strategy; however, 61% of them acknowledged multiple choice questions (MCQs) as the best assessment method. Negative perception (28%) was recorded with respect to the learning environment. Conclusion: Students were positive overall as far as their learning experiences are concerned, yet they identified numerous problematic areas. A., Jawaid, M., Khan, A. R., and Sajjad, M 2023). Researchers now have the ability to command chatbots, such as ChatGPT, to draft complete research papers, including systematic reviews, case reports, and original research. However, this widespread adoption has raised several ethical concerns regarding the appropriate usage of chatbots in academic writing (Fatani., 2023). This editorial explores the ethical implications associated with utilizing chatbots in research and highlights the need for clear guidelines and distinctions between plagiarism and legitimate support from AI chatbots.","PeriodicalId":338468,"journal":{"name":"Health Professions Educator Journal","volume":"141 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139368426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As compared to experienced clinicians, young doctors are often struggling while providing care to such patients. But we surprisingly know very little about young doctor’s perceptions of themselves and difficult patients while encountering them, so without proper understanding, strategies cannot be formulated to handle these challenging situations.Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore the patterns and contributing factors responsible for the difficult patient encounters faced by young doctors.Methods: A qualitative study was conducted among the house officers and medical officers of the medicine department at Islam Medical College Sialkot and Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College Sialkot for a period of six months from February 2020 to July 2020. The purposive homogeneous sampling technique was chosen, and five focused group interviews were conducted for the data collection. Data was collected until saturation. The data was organized and entered into the Data Analysis Software NVIVO for the thematic analysis.Results: Thirty-four participants took part in this study. The results were presented in the form of themes and categories. Patient’s issues, health care issues, and young doctor’s issues were described as three major factors that play role in difficult patient encounters.Conclusion: Difficult patient encounters are not only due to patients or doctors; rather, they are a multi-factorial phenomenon very strongly influenced by the overall social, cultural, and behavioral associations.","PeriodicalId":338468,"journal":{"name":"Health Professions Educator Journal","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139370588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Excessive usage of social media is a cause of not only the deterioration of physical and psychological health of medical students, but has also become a defining reason of procrastination and attaining less than ideal grades. Where most western institutes implement strict social media policies in medical schools, those in Pakistan are gravely lacking.Objective: The objective of this research implementation of social media in medical schools of Pakistan and then identify the need to develop such policies.Methods: We conducted qualitative research in which method of data collection was primarily focus group discussions (FGD) of a total of 40 participants from five different medical colleges of Pakistan. The participants included medical practitioners and medical students(n=20) who were further divided into four groups of five participants each. FGD was conducted online.Results: Content analysis revealed seven core themes as point of discussions to be highlighted. Almost all participants were grossly unaware of the importance of social media usage regulation and its implementation in medical schools.Conclusion: At the end of the FGD it was unanimously agreed upon that there must be a uniform and standard social media policy defined by the regulating bodies of medical schools.
