A BSTRACT : This paper firstly presents developments of vocational and occupational competencies as well as the relevant predictors for these competencies. Secondly, reflections on the modelling of vocational and occupational competencies including first results of its empirical testing are addressed. In case of the car-mechatronics basic education the testing of the dimensionality and gradation of the modelling are based on item response models. Regarding trouble shooting skills (problem solving) in electricians basic education a hypothetical model is presented which was generated on the basis of five empirical studies dealing with the development and improvement of trouble shooting skills. Developments of vocational and occupational competencies are presented in recourse to classical testing theory related to the basic education of car-mechatronics and electrical fitters. Besides pre-knowledge, which usually is the dominant predictor, other predictors such as the basic cognitive abilities (IQ), central basic competencies (mathematics, reading), the type of training (full-time schooling vs. dual system), quality of training in school and companies and the motivation are considered as relevant influencing factors to explain the variance of learning success.","PeriodicalId":338021,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift für Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129548552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a cross-sectional field study we surveyed N = 1,237 apprentices in Germany and Switzerland. The questionnaire comprises questions on different dimensions of error climate as well as two reactions to errors (cognitive-behavioral reaction, affective-motivational reaction). The findings show that perceived error climate in the training company predicts the way in which apprentices deal individually with errors.","PeriodicalId":338021,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift für Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik","volume":"291 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120879004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two assessments, which are settled in different phases of the competence development, will be described in order to picture transition processes in VET. Therefore, based on DIF analyses, aspects of fairness in competence- based testing as well as for the use in instructional processes to foster learning and teaching in the specifi c domain of economic sciences will be discussed. The DIF analyses are done in different ways: comparing individual characteristics as well as comparing companies’ properties. To describe the transition from school to apprenticeship it may be relevant to identify substantial bias comparing the prior knowledge of apprentices as well as their experiences in VET programs to face differential processes of competence development.","PeriodicalId":338021,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift für Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116311935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although problem solving itself is a process, the analysis of problem-solving competence usually focuses on products but ignores the quality of problem-solving processes. Computer-based testing environments provide new possibilities for analysing problem-solving processes on the basis of big data from interactions with the test environment (log data). The theoretical section includes a distinction between types and characteristics of problems and various strategies – domain-general heuristics, knowledge-based (domain-specific) heuristics and domain-specific algorithms. Analyses of log data which are used to identify individual problem-solving strategies can ideally be divided into data-driven and model-driven approaches. This paper exemplarily discusses approaches to log file analysis based on data from domain-specific problem scenarios that have been processed in a computer-based office simulation by 780 students in commercial vocational education and training. In a first step of data preparation, the particular interactions are consolidated into related activities. Second, the 30-minute scenarios are divided into six intervals of five minutes each. Finally, the selected activities are analysed for each of five performance groups (grouped according to their problem-solving competence). The number of activities, the use of notepad and the handling of relevant documents are examined for two problem-solving scenarios that differ in terms of their approach. All analyses show that the group of more successful problem solvers has more of the above mentioned activities. In the course of time, there are some interesting differences between both, the problem scenarios and the performance groups. These differences indicate that more successful problem solvers align their problem-solving processes with the problems’ inherent approaches.","PeriodicalId":338021,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift für Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121521756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
