The purpose of this research is to investigate how ethical leadership influences teaching effectiveness in Tanzania's Public Higher Learning Institutions. The study focuses on how academic staff teaching performance is affected by role clarification and integrity. The study's target population includes 4,863 academic staff members at public HLIs in Tanzania, and 350 respondents were chosen from this group using a stratified simple random selection technique. Employees at public HLIs are bound to an ethical code of conduct and ethical values, and they are required to perform better so that the entire community can obtain high-quality educational services. Employee performance, on the other hand, is mediocre. A lack of required resources, inadequate leadership, low employee motivation, role ambiguity, and a lack of ethical guidance cause unsatisfactory performance; nevertheless, it is uncertain how much ethical leadership influences employee performance in teaching. The information was acquired by a self-administered questionnaire with closed-ended questions, and it was statistically examined through regression analysis. The findings show that role clarification and integrity have a positive impact on employees' performance in teaching in HLIs. HLI's leadership should take the lead in fostering ethical leadership among its employees by complying with laws and regulations (ethics codes).","PeriodicalId":337729,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Social Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139209556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In spite of stipends, free schoolbooks and other incentives given by the government, girls’ dropout rate at the secondary level is not decreasing as expected in Bangladesh. The key objective of this study is to find out the different factors that affect girls’ dropout. The respondents of this research were girls who were 14-30 years old and had dropped out of the secondary level. In this study, the research area was Bharsho village in Naogaon district, Bangladesh. Using the case study method, data for this study were collected from 21-03-2019 to 05-04-2019 from 12 respondents through face-to-face communication, with the help of an unstructured interview schedule. Findings show that several factors are responsible for girls’ dropout. These are--early marriage, poverty, pregnancy, distance from home to school, eve-teasing, teachers’ maltreatment, negative attitude of society towards girls’ acquisition of education, poor academic performance, lack of security and the notion that if a daughter is more educated, it will cause greater difficulty in getting an equally qualified husband. Among these factors, early marriage is the most prominent.","PeriodicalId":337729,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Social Sciences","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139214552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"Analysis of the impact of insecurity on youth unemployment in Nigeria (1990-2020)","authors":"Ibrahim Musa","doi":"10.20473/ijss.v15i2.45655","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.20473/ijss.v15i2.45655","url":null,"abstract":"Youth unemployment is a very important socioeconomic problem in Nigeria, which has gone bad in recent years. Therefore, using the ordinary least square estimation technique (OLS), this research examines the impact of insecurity on youth unemployment in Nigeria from 1990 to 2020. The study focuses on the relationship between the dependent variable, unemployment (Unemp), and two independent variables, the National Terrorism Index (Ntix) and Crime Rate (Crat). The results reveal that Ntix has a positive and statistically significant effect on Unemp. Specifically, a unit increase in Ntix leads to a 0.000827 rise in unemployment. Additionally, Nigerian Crat demonstrates a significant and positive influence on Unemp, with an increase in Crat resulting in a 0.005653 increase in unemployment. Given that heightened insecurity directly contributes to unemployment, the study proposes several policy recommendations. Firstly, the government should consider reducing interest rates in commercial banks to enhance the availability of loans for small business owners, enabling them to hire more employees. Furthermore, addressing corruption in both public and private sectors, combating kidnappings, and establishing additional skill acquisition centers are crucial measures to tackle the issue of insecurity and promote employment opportunities.","PeriodicalId":337729,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Social Sciences","volume":"51 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139209402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study aimed to determine the relationship between perceived positive mental health and resilience of grade 6 students in Tagbitan-ag Elementary School and to identify the levels of positive mental health and resilience. The study utilized a non-experimental quantitative correlational research design. The data was collected using an adapted survey questionnaire and was conducted on the selected 80 grade 6 learners employing convenience sampling. The data was analyzed using the Mean and Pearson-Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The study results showed that grade 6 students had a moderately high level of perceived positive mental health and resilience. It was also found that perceived mental health is associated with the students' resilience. That suggests that individuals with higher levels of positive mental health are also more likely to have higher levels of resilience or vice-versa.","PeriodicalId":337729,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Social Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139214053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines as well had to replace the on-campus teaching-learning modes with several variants of remote teaching. However, the various remote means are something quite new to both educators and learners, especially in mathematics, wherein various onboard instructions and on-desk hands-on exercises had been the norm. This study used of quantitative approach through online surveys to identify the educators’ challenges with remote teaching implementations in public schools in the Philippines. The findings reveal challenges related to the actual delivery of mathematics instruction, distractions from non-teaching tasks, curricular adjustments, alignment of materials, and orientation of parents or guardians and teachers. The pandemic may not be the last to impact the education system. Overall, the study shows an increased level of challenges for mathematics teaching. Thus, there is an urgent need to readjust policies and procedures affecting environmental learning conditions such as distractions, family-work-life balance, communication technology, rationalization of non-academic duties, increased participation, and support of parents and guardians.","PeriodicalId":337729,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Social Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125095859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pan-ethnic identity of Indians in the US as Asian Americans, the Mar Thoma Church community for religious identity, and the second-generation Patel family’s union formation in terms of gender identity will be analyzed to find out the reasons behind their choice of a particular identity. Historical frameworks like Asian American movement and theoretical frameworks like identity formation theories will be used to interpret the reasons behind the choice of the identity of Indian Americans. For analyzing interview data, methodological frameworks, including thematic and statistical analysis, will be used. Results show the reasons behind their choice of different identities, including professional advantage and their future directives as part of hypotheses of Indian Americans as they merge with the American identity as part of cultural assimilation, in other cases, retain their Asian-ness beyond Americanized identity and sometimes go beyond both American, Asian identity to restate their Indian ethnicity. To conclude, the identity of Indian Americans remains evenly poised and keeps on changing due to the requirements of the ever-evolving world.","PeriodicalId":337729,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Social Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133739093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Health professionals, patients, and others frequently misinterpret numbers, statistics and concepts in healthcare. Among the many repercussions of health literacy, appropriate decision-making and the reduction in the number of interventions and treatments stand out, resulting in an improvement in people's health and a decrease in overtreatment and health expenses. This study intends to evaluate how properly health professionals and the public, in general, comprehend and interpret some health-related numbers. To accomplish this goal, the researchers shared a questionnaire made available online in Portugal from January 2, 2019, until April 12, 2019. The final sample comprised 485 respondents; 154 physicians, 142 nurses, and 189 people from other professions. The findings suggest that there is a problem with widespread numerical illiteracy, which should not be the case, highlighting the need to improve the numerical and statistical health literacy of both health professionals and the general population. So, medical professionals and patients must thus comprehend the statistics and health-related concepts to obtain the proper consent.","PeriodicalId":337729,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian Journal of Social Sciences","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129980008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
