Teachers can create and share a template with the information needed for students to work in a collaborative activity. Students can access a template and collaborate by adding elements to solve the activity. During the activity, teachers can visit real-time participation charts to monitor students' progress. We illustrate the usability of this tool in a pilot study. One teacher from the Database Systems course at ESPOL University was invited to use the Diagramar tool. Fifty-one students, distributed in groups of 2 to 4 participants, used the tool for designing a database for three different business models during three weeks. After, students were invited to fill in the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire and express their opinions about features they liked, features they did not like, and improved features. Twenty-seven students answered the questionnaire, and their results showed a higher acceptance, suggesting an easier adoption for regular classes. Students also expressed improvements and new features for the tool, which will be considered in the next iteration of the tool's development.","PeriodicalId":337257,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE URUCON","volume":"318 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124501365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These events encourage more investment in the generation sector and cause increasing concerns with the development and improvement of tools for static voltage stability analysis of electrical power systems. This paper presents a new geometric parameterization technique for continuation power flow (CPF) that works based on the addition of a new plane formed by the variables of voltage magnitudes and total real power losses (Pa). The new plane features a linear aspect around the maximum loading point (MLP), eliminating the Jacobian matrix (J) singularity at the maximum loading point, allowing to obtain the solution trajectory (P-V curve) without any need to change the parameter, which is a common procedure in the currently available CPF. Intending to define a simple and efficient step size control procedure, the distance value between the center of the set of lines and the total real power losses is calculated. This value defines the appropriate step size for the system. The results obtained by applying the proposed technique to the IEEE 14-bus system and one real large system of the 904-bus show its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":337257,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE URUCON","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128121213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This negatively impacts the reliability of the EPS and the effects of such uncertainties increase as the level of RES penetration rises. This problem is addressed by operators and planners with the operating reserves, that need to ensure the reliability of the EPS. This work presents a review of the current approaches found in the literature that address the problem of operating reserves in the context of operation and planning.","PeriodicalId":337257,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE URUCON","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122284179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students undergoing the Computer Engineering program graduation process at an Ecuadorian university participated in this study. The students developed a scientific article based on a technical project. At the end of the mentoring phase, a survey was applied to determine their general perception of the process. Unlike the numerous studies on undergraduate research training that propose good practices and principles, this report shows a methodology that derived not only students' autonomy and research training, but also in impact publications.","PeriodicalId":337257,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE URUCON","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130212307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was proposed as an alternative to the traditional instructional method for theoretical lectures based on a unidirectional transmission of information from the professor to students with minimum interaction. This traditional methodology is in general monotonous and discouraging for students. However, neuroscience and pedagogical studies suggest the importance of generating emotion and motivation for students to achieve better comprehension and more significant learning. Following the steps defined by the action-research in the educational context, we have elaborated an action plan which includes the design of learning activities based on active methodologies with an appealing format for students with the objective of improving their motivation and involvement for the theoretical content of the subjects. We have also gathered some evidence based on the students' opinions and performance to assess the impact of the methodology. These results show positive signs about the impact of this variation in the instructional methodology as students feel more motivated and excited when they learn from this type of activities.","PeriodicalId":337257,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE URUCON","volume":"53 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131715091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The peak power, adjusted for body mass, was measured by means of a force platform. Significant linear correlation between FD and peak power was determined for six out of seven muscles, yet characterized by a rather high fraction of unexplained variance (65% to 88%). Mono-articular Vasti (lateralis and medialis) displayed the strongest correlation ($R=0.472$ to 0.534), while bi-articular Rectus and Biceps femoris and Gatrocnemius medialis presented a comparable level of correlation (R around 0.364-0.466). In this work, FD analysis has been applied to a routine power test in realistic conditions. This experimental design permitted evaluate the feasibility and usefulness of the procedure. The high level of uncertainty associated to the correlations does not permit predictive results. However, FD con be useful to simply and quickly assess the level of participation of muscles or muscle groups in determining a performance. However, further researches are needed to refine and explore further potentiality of this technique.","PeriodicalId":337257,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE URUCON","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133261519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
