We define the formulation and basic elements of optimal process control which are models of physical processes, constraints, objective function, functional, history of optimization, and practical approaches to optimal control implementation. The classification comprises basic theory, methods, and techniques. The theory will be complemented by concrete examples from practice. Finally, the structures for optimal process control (feed forward and feedback optimal control) will be given in the paper.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122406448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The natural gas stations typically comprise overground facilities for filtering, pressure reduction, flow metering and odorizing. The facilities and the interconnecting pipelines are subject to risk of damages due to material failures or external factors. The failure detection algorithm presented in the paper is based on two physical phenomena concerning the temperature of piping. The first one is bound to the process of natural gas expansion to the atmosphere leading to a rapid decrease of the gas temperature, usually below the ambient temperature. Therefore, the flux of gas absorbs heat from the pipe walls implying a local drop of the surface temperature. The second phenomenon is related to the change of the flow pattern in the station, since leakages typically induce high discharge flow rates. The new flow pattern affects the thermal effect exerted by the gas flux on the pipe walls, hence significant variations from previous values as well as from the ambient conditions may be registered in short-time intervals. The algorithm implements integrity test procedures based on both thermal mechanisms, as well as initializing procedures for image normalization and identification of relevant pipeline sections.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122934377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, determination of the process state, understood as the evaluation of the hereof process deviations from the reference standard process is possible. Researches focused on the identification of the process operation states changes have been developed in the diagnostics of the energy processes. The existing thermal diagnosis systems, which goal was energy evaluation of the operation, are enriched with the modules, which enable to localize the causes of excessive energy consumption. It requires application of the simulation models of the thermal processes. Additionally, simple models with short calculation time are necessary for the thermal diagnostics systems needs. Such models can be obtained with the utilization of the empirical modelling methods. Good results brings construction of the analytical model with the auxiliary empirical functions built-in. The paper presents mathematical model of the steam-water cycle for cogeneration heat and power (CHP) unit with bleed-condensing turbine containing mass and energy balances and auxiliary empirical equations describing the steam expansion line and the heat transfer processes in the heat exchangers. Worked out simulation model contains partial models of the turbine, the heat exchangers and condenser. Exemplary calculation results are presented.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124023686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Suitable mathematical model, which can be effectively used as a integral part of the process control system, requires not only adequacy to the modeled objects but also adequacy of the computing time to the real time, because one of the main criteria of the optimal model is its time saving. Traditional parametric approach is inadequate to analyze large-scale systems because of its computational inefficiency. Acceleration can be achieved by the selection of a suitable platform of the mathematical model, which by reason of time saving must have elements of the simplification.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127872552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We describe the new effective algorithm based on memetic algorithm (MA) for optimal control of switched systems. We concentrate on a class of problems in which a pre-specified sequence of active subsystems is known. Our aim is to find both the optimal switching instants and the optimal continuous inputs. The new approach, which we propose, decomposes the cost functional of the basic optimal control problem in Bolza form in two terms. The first term depends explicitly on a value of state variables at the final time. The second term depends on state and control trajectories. In order to solve those two tasks we used MA as the multi-objective optimization algorithm. In this paper we considered a fundamental bi-criteria case with two mentioned before functions: the value of state variables at the final time and the state and control trajectories. In order to find an approximation of Pareto frontier, we proposed new effective method based on genetic algorithm (GA) and local search (LS). Problems properties were taken into consideration in the design of our new approach of solving it. They were used to construct new algorithm inspired by the LS NSGA-II, which performed rather well in multi-criteria scheduling problem. Since simple genetic algorithms are efficient heuristics in searching for optimal solutions, but lack the accuracy of some more computational complex algorithms, a hybrid algorithm was constructed. It uses fast non-dominated sorting, in order to evaluate child population and allocate solutions to corresponding Pareto frontiers. I addition a local search method was used, in order to find more differentiated and better solutions. Clustering solutions from Pareto frontiers also improved diversity of solutions in child population. This approach can be used as a start point for searching for algorithm for solving optimal control problems of switched systems without pre-specified sequence of active subsystems. The performance of the algorithm is illustrated by the examples: (a) a hybrid optimal control problem with nonlinear dynamics and (b) a switched linear quadratic optimal control problem with long switching time intervals.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116409329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its meaning is known very well for the ordinary people, ordinary in the sense of being not associated with the automotive industry. One of the strategies for NOx emissions reduction in personal vehicles with combustion engine is the Selective Catalytic Reduction System. The critical issue of such systems can be too high urea temperature at the injector outlet. Engine compartment around the injector influences very much the injector temperature. This temperature can be estimated with a model based on interpolation maps and correlation factors. Parameters of the model can be evaluated using genetic algorithms. Main issue of this work was researching for best identification method of the parameters of the engine compartment. First, easy genetic algorithms has been designed and coupled to the temperature model, than two experiment have been defined to check various method, where changing of settings of genetic algorithms and then several runs have been performed. To evaluate which setting are most suitable, spread of the found parameters have been compared. In first two experiment absolute values of the parameters have not been exposed, third experiment has been introduced to validate short the chosen method. Output of this experiment are time course of the temperature throughout the whole simulation duration, population fitness and found parameters. The identification was running parallel to the process, e.g. during the system calibration phase in a car. Matlab Simulink environment was applied for design of the function. As a development platform for running of the algorithm and doing measurement a dedicated Rapid Prototyping System based on Micro Auto Box from dSpace was applied.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127432476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
