More precisely, in the first part we estimate the biomass concentrations in a biotechnological process by using interval observers. Since the modelling of these processes is uncertain, only some bounds of the biomass concentrations can be estimated by using two appropriate interval observers. The second part refers to designing a nonlinear model predictive control structure for the process. The effectiveness and performance of these interval observers as well as of the predictive control strategy are illustrated by numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120953999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Not only the operational and the technical parameters, but also the financial, logistical or investment indicators are monitored. The number of these data can be substantial and their evaluation rather complex. By converting these data into the scene in virtual reality, the situation may become clearer and more suitable for managerial decision making. In a 3D virtual scene a “new world” is created representing the data of the monitored supply chain. The data thus presented may help even those less technically qualified workers to assess and evaluate the situation visualized. This paper describes model situations of heat network operation in a particular town, converted into a virtual scene using modeling language X3D (Extensible 3D). Furthermore, the algorithm describes how to convert the measured and monitored data into a 3D virtual scene. So created virtual world may find use in heat networks operations management in particular, in the analysis of returns, or in evaluation of other economic factors. In the same way a 3D virtual scene can be used in any other area.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"1998 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127320679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Escorting and tracking are typical situations, where more robots can be more efficient. In this paper we will present a completely distributed algorithm for tracing moving objects in formation by using homogenous, medium scaled swarm robots based on local sensing and interactions. We have adopted and extended approaches from the already known concept of basis behaviors as ubiquitous general building blocks for synthesizing artificial group behavior, while adding communication capabilities to the system. We will present our experiments by introducing our virtual simulation environment.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116448117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A comparison of two types of mathematical models, which solutions are used to fit experimental data is done, where the error-of-fit and the computation time are taken as the fitting benchmarks. Both types of the defined models consist of differential equations, one uses fractional, the other integer orders of differentiation. The first advantage of the fractional-order models is the fact that fractional-order differential equation (FDE) has one degree of freedom more (the order of differentiation lies in the interval (0,1)), whereas the integer-order differential equation has the order of differentiation constant, equal to 1. The other advantage besides the “freedom in order” is that FDEs provide a powerful instrument for description of memory and hereditary properties of systems in comparison to the integer-order models, where such effects are neglected or difficult to incorporate. The first aspect of this work consist in choosing a suitable optimization method for finding the parameters of the defined models based on minimizing chosen fitting criterion. The Medium-scale optimization, using the tools of sequential quadratic programming, Quasi-Newton and line-search algorithms (performed by the MATLAB function fmincon) is compared with the evolutionary - genetic algorithm (performed by the MATLAB function ga). The second aspect lies in using two different approaches in the formulation of the optimization criterion. For the time domain identification the classical least squares method (LSM) and so the sum of vertical offsets will be used. The state-space identification will use the total least squares method (TLSM or the so-called orthogonal distance fitting criterion - ODF), which uses the sum of orthogonal (perpendicular) distances between the experimental points and the fitting curve. Several examples are presented in the form of figures. The efficiency of computation and the values of the error-of-fit using different approaches are compared in the form of tables.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121982226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a very common type of dizziness. Extensive studies confirmed that about 20% men and up to 40% of adult women from time to time have feeling of motion when one is stationary. There are several sophisticated methods which help to find a cause of vertigo. Many of them were described in the last century or even earlier. These methods still have their place in modern medicine, but the introduction of modern computer technology can make their implementation in many ways to refine and improve. Posturography is one of the non-invasive medical technique used to evaluate vertigo. Traditional static posturography has several results, such as charts describing speed, direction, harmony of patient's tilts, but for the medical studies and formation of norms are more sufficient numerical outputs, which we are going to deal with in this paper. This articles deals with processing of the balance examination results. Some evaluations have in the past been defined, but still some significant signs remain hidden in charts or worse, in raw data. This paper show traditional numeric approaches and try to point the new one, focused on lateral deviation and refining current options. The proposed algorithms need to be verified by the practical experience now and found of the rate of its usability.","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128709426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And, once again, a question arises what approach should be taken when solving the newly emerged problems? It turns out that the current managers' problem-solving method should be based on a system approach as well as on prediction. The dynamics and indefiniteness of business environment makes a corporate management use methods based on the system approach to the business, or understanding the business as a living organism and, at the same time, take into account the growing importance of knowledge, creative human potential, and new management methods as system dynamics and other competition tools of a company of the 21st century. The objective of this paper is creation model of Corporate Strategic Management decision-making in the conditions of food industry, on a market of a refrigeration company. Production of ice creams depends on the weather conditions during the year. The manufactured goods are of seasonal nature. As a result of great competition on the market, prices are very low and manufacturers' margins are squeezed by strong supermarket chains. Only the brand names of products and manufacturers are protected. Product differentiation is low. Product development is primarily based on copying of the most attractive product of the competition. Recipes and manufacturing processes developed by the research departments of world-wide companies are copied by all competitors. Advertising and promotion play an important role in winning customers. Companies try to launch something new every season. Preparation for each season takes place from May of the previous year. The goal of model is to understand how the price and the sold quantity influence the sales growth rate, market share, and profit of the refrigeration company over a period of 24 months, with seasonal fluctuations in the demanded quantity on the market. One member of author's team has practical experience from production and business at food company. For performance measurement we use Business Performance Index, i.e. a summary indicator showing the business performance; it aggregates data of three partial indicators which determine the achieved economic results of a company, i.e. the sales growth rate, market share, and profit. The following balance has been established for individual partial indicators: sales growth rate (45%), market share (35%), and profit (20%). The model of Corporate Strategic Management used the Vensim software. Vensim is a software program for creating management modules and simulators based on the principles of modeling of dynamic systems. System dynamics is a scientific discipline which studies systems, their development and behavior over time. The possible use of the knowledge of system dynamics is based on the understanding of system behavior and structures, assessment of effects of individual alternatives, and testing of strategies. The feedback structure of the system allows recording the diagram of sur","PeriodicalId":334936,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126470005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
