Given the ongoing reality of climate change, green technologies have been recognised as a useful mean to mitigate its effect. Alongside this, knowledge diffusion has been seen as a key to develop green technologies and promote innovation. This paper examines the interconnections between science and technology in green technologies by investigating the scholarly work cited in patents. In doing so, this study can yield valuable insights on the knowledge base of nascent technologies to determining present-day policy priorities and a future roadmap for research direction.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126128669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A survey of empirical work relevant to the concept of unconscientious referencing practices indicates that purely citation-based methods should be affected by significant ‘citation noise’, unlike text-based methods. This study continues work with the Astro benchmarking data set for bibliometric clustering by applying semantic representation learning techniques to scientific documents in order to isolate the clustering performance difference between direct citations and textual terms. We investigate variants of Random Indexing embeddings learned on this data set and one pre-trained off-the-shelf semantic document embedding, SPECTER. The evaluation is performed with four previously introduced validation data sets but using a newly suggested clustering evaluation measure.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114255193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It uses two different analytical approaches: first, it explores the Arts-Sciences connections by analysing the disciplinary assignment of journals in the WoS database; second, it investigates knowledge flows between Arts and Sciences at two levels of aggregation (scientific fields and disciplines) in 2000-2021. The results suggest a growing, albeit small trend towards Arts-Sciences interdisciplinarity and demonstrate that Art and Sciences increasingly rely on each other in the process of new knowledge creation. The analysis also reveals a number of specific reciprocal links between particular Arts and Sciences disciplines (e.g. between Music and Medical Sciences or Visual Arts and Engineering & Technology).","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127288674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Article Processing Charges (APCs) are fees charged by publishers to authors for the publication of their articles in open access journals. These fees can present a new type of “paywall” to researchers and institutions who cannot afford to pay these amounts. Considering previous studies that showed barriers to publishing open access between countries as a result of high costs, in this study, we aimed to examine whether there are differences in open access publishing, expenditure and overall participation within universities in the United States. Our analysis shows that the majority of states published between 1,000 – 7,000 Gold Open Access publications and spent up to 6million dollars in the past 10 years. However, there are some noteworthy outliers’ states that publish a high number Gold Open Access papers but pay significantly less than other states that publish a lower number of Gold Open Access papers and pay significantly more","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114924587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a random sample of 116k publications from Crossref, each database was queried to retrieve the same document list with the purpose of comparing the metadata of their publications. The results show that the completeness degree is different between databases and that the search engines show more problems to extract abstracts and assign document typologies. Dimensions is the product that obtain the highest completeness percentages in abstracts, open access documents, bibliographic data and document types.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121650292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper addresses this issue by investigating the adoption of LinkedIn among a representative sample of over 12,000 UK academics, using both Scopus publication data and LinkedIn data. The paper offers two main contributions. Firstly, it identifies the types of researchers visible on LinkedIn, providing valuable insights into the profiles of academics who use this platform. Secondly, it enhances our understanding of the usefulness of LinkedIn as a data source and measure for science and innovation studies. Overall, this paper provides significant insights into the use of LinkedIn by academics and its potential as a data source for research evaluation and scholarly studies.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130520230","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These are precompetitive public-private research partnerships that adhere to principles of open science, which includes putting the research outputs into the public domain and precluding participants from seeking Intellectual Property (IP) rights protection on these outputs. Despite the growing interest in OSPs, they have been the subject of limited scholarly attention. To remedy this situation, we examine the similarities and differences of OSPs. Based on a comparative, qualitative study of five OSPs in biomedicine, we propose two crucial dimensions in OSP design - research aims of the partnership and degree of industry orientation - as the basis for four archetypes of OSPs. These archetypes are intended to provide a starting point for further research and for practitioners wishing to ensure that means applied match the desired ends that motivated the OSP.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115009552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The map indicates that this discourse largely remains within the confines of the biomedical and social sciences where they originated. This suggests that research policies and assessment guidelines that are based on this discourse might be inappropriate or inapplicable for other disciplines making any universal guidelines and policies problematic and carrying with it the danger of epistemic injustice. Therefore, we recommend further investigations into whether and how reproducibility is talked about locally within different and diverse fields across the research landscape.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132748479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to map the interrelationships, a survey was conducted to gather researchers' opinions on how science, technology and societal approaches are expected to contribute to these challenges. The survey sought to envision the future state of society and to concretise future societal challenges and value creation through a backcasting approach. It is expected that such an approach would lead to new insights into the links between societal issues and science and technology that cannot be found through a forecasting approach alone, as well as to new discoveries in interdisciplinary research.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132831202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
