To provide a comprehensive, large-scale view of OA publishing considering gender and individual scientific disciplines, we analyzed a dataset of OpenAlex. Our final sample contained over 20 millions publications, including closed OA status publications, and over 8 millions publications, excluding closed OA status publications. Using the Genderize.io tool, we determined the gender of the authors. Results showed that female scientists publish more in OA mode, especially in Gold OA. Male scientists, on the other hand, tend to use Green OA. Our results also revealed a decreasing trend of Bronze OA and a growing trend of Gold and Hybrid OA. Biology, Physics, and Mathematics have the largest share of OA publications. Overall, our study provides a global perspective on gender and OA publishing and contributes to efforts to promote gender equality and inclusiveness in science and research.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129483714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on open-source database FRIS, we queried the names of all active academics from Dutch-speaking universities in Belgium in BelgaPress and Overton. Explorative analyses reveal distinct sector differences in media mentions and policy citations, with academics from Medical – and Social sciences being the most visible. A small minority of mostly male academics featured very frequently in media and policy, but not in both domains simultaneously. Moreover, academics featured in the media seem are not necessarily quoted more in policy and vice versa.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129638298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the level of the institution to national transformed into regional as international collaboration patterns have always the been centre of discussion. Though in the era of globalization and e-mode, collaboration tends to happen ubiquitously but that’s not the case always. Some core countries are always found to be more connected with any other given countries or regions. The core-periphery model has been observed in different research areas or regions. In this thought process, this study explores the probable existence of higher international collaboration over regional collaboration in the case of South Asian countries. Furthermore, it establishes the alignment of South Asian countries towards collaboration with core countries beyond the region.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"788 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116133757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We found that assessment of credibility is very important to researchers serving in these committees but researchers are dissatisfied with their ability to judge credibility and often use inappropriate proxies, such as journal reputation and impact factor, to do this. Non-traditional research outputs associated with Open Science practices are particularly hard to assess, despite their potential to signal and support credibility assessments. Current policy may be overly focused on assessment of impact, and there are opportunities to provide better solutions to enable researchers to judge the credibility of research.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127378956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, selecting a publishing source can be problematic for authors in the initial stage of a scholarly study. So, context-based classification is important where the abstracts, keywords, and titles get similar attention. The aim of this study is to create a tool that uses ensemble learning to classify scholarly articles and recommends sources. This study uses 38 classes for the Web of Science dataset and 40 Classes for the Dimension dataset without grouping them. In all experiment setups models using abstracts achieved the best result as giving a more contextual understanding. Based on this ensemble-based approach, a recommender system has been outlined to recommend probable sources for a given article based on Title, Keywords, and Abstract.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"300 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121461780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some groups are disadvantaged in this race despite their efforts. Comparing to natural sciences the structure of the coauthorship network in social sciences is less stable and collaborations are smaller and last shorter, which makes it harder to become a part of the disciplinary core. Our contribution intends to add new empirical evidence about the impact of collaborations on recognition among peers and research productivity in sociology. In our research we would like is to compare the publication strategies of the researchers occupying important positions in terms of the collaboration network and named as highly estimable scholars. We hope that our research can enlighten our understanding of whether chosen publication strategies affect your position in the community.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"382 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123090758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A database was set up with all email addresses in the by-line of articles and reviews indexed in the Web of Science database.\u0000In the period 2017-2021, the usage by corresponding authors of institutional email addresses is much more prolific in the Anglo-Saxon and Western European countries than in the BRICS countries. In the latter, corresponding authors use nearly as often a non-institutional as an institutional email address. The journals’ publishing model does not seem of have a large impact on the type of email address used. Most strikingly is the much more frequent usage of non-institutional email addresses in retracted papers compared to non-retracted papers.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"355 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116447799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus of this article are ECRs in Germany and Norway. ECRs are here defined as PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. PhD students in Norway are to a higher degree scholarship holders and at the same time employed at higher education institutions than their German counterparts. Germany and Norway differ in their historical approaches facilitating gender equality, even though gender policies are converging in both countries. Drawing on data from the German Science Survey 2019, Time-use survey of Norwegian academic staff at higher education institutions and data from the register of research personal in Norway, we explore time allocation for academic activities among ECRs in Norway and Germany considering different context variables (gender, family model, discipline, doctoral training model) providing implications for further research.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115150577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, preprinting has been adopted at varying rates across different countries/regions. To investigate researchers’ experience with and attitudes toward preprinting, we conducted a survey of authors of research papers published in 2021 or 2022. We find that respondents in the US and Europe had a higher level of familiarity with and adoption of preprinting than those in China and the rest of the world. Respondents in China were most worried about the lack of recognition for preprinting and the risk of getting scooped. US respondents were very concerned about premature media coverage of preprints, the reliability and credibility of preprints, and public sharing of information before peer review. Respondents identified integration of preprinting in journal submission processes as the most important way to promote preprinting.","PeriodicalId":334841,"journal":{"name":"27th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (STI 2023)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127741777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
