When these linkages are strategic and take the form of a highly collaborative alliance, firms are compelled to contribute firm specific assets, make alliance specific investments, and construct alliance specific governance in an effort to leverage each other and develop new alliance specific assets that may be used to establish and maintain competitive advantage. This article provides an alliance framework that helps to explicate the interactive relationships that occur in strategic marketing alliances. It further delineates the necessity for complementarity, compatibility, and combinative capacity in the context of assets, investments, and governance. Finally, it offers seven propositions in the context of market-based assets that demonstrate the framework's potential use in future empirical research.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131017459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most interesting aspect of this alliance is the acknowledgement by both companies of the excellent relationship they enjoyed during the partnership that resulted in a high-quality product in the dye printing market. Ironically, this alliance silenced after four years of its cooperation and both parties do not know why they broke up. This research is using qualitative approach by interviewing managers of both companies who were involved in this alliance. The result of this study indicated that there are many reasons why their alliance collapsed, such as lack of communication and commitment (key persons have moved to different responsibility), lack of success in the market, the dilution of interdependency among both partners, and competition in the market place. It is important to take a note that conflict sometimes is a good sign of a healthy relationship. Lesson learned from this alliance is indeed valuable.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125248483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of this paper is to validate critical success factors (CSFs) of TQM that affect the implementation of TQM based on an extensive literature review since 1989 till date and through a pilot study on the manufacturing Egyptian firms. The validation of these critical success factors will help researchers to develop reliable and valid instruments that could be used in measuring the effective implementation of TQM in different contexts. Based on a comprehensive literature review, ten critical success factors had been identified as common constructs from previous research and quality gurus' writings. The study concluded further that the identified CSFs were highly reliable and valid and therefore the instrument can be used in measuring TQM implementation. Additionally top management commitment to quality was identified as the main driving force for implementing TQM and supportive infrastructure was identified as a barrier for TQM implementation.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124406901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data for analysis is generated from 112 managers from different industries in three countries. Frequency, factor, and regression analysis, reliability tests are used for data analysis. Multiple item scales based on five qualities model (5Qs) were developed and adapted. The results suggest that there is an important interaction between most independent variables and alliance motivations, length and type of alliance. Quality of atmosphere followed by quality of interaction was identified as the most important variables to achieve high total quality of strategic alliance relationship (TQSAR). The proposed 5Qs model consists of some generic and integrated dimensions. Each quality dimension is represented by a number of statements/items, intended to represent a specific quality factor as thoroughly and reliably as possible.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125769069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is little research available in literature analysing the impact of implementing quality objectives on performance in ISO 9001 certified organisations. Objectives are one of the essential requirements of ISO 9001. This research determines whether the implementation of quality objectives positively impacts the on-time delivery of ISO 9001 certified organisations, which consists of both, delivery to customers and from suppliers. Organisations invest considerable amount of resources to implement quality management systems. Understanding the impact of implementation will help establish value-added quality objectives optimising the return on investment by ISO 9001 certification. Regression analyses were utilised to analyse data from aerospace organisations to determine the effect of implementing quality objectives of on-time delivery in ISO 9001 certified organisations.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116910131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Strategic alliance in the form of inter-firm and supply chain relationships are highlighted in this paper. By reviewing the literature in SCM, packaging, marketing, strategic alliances and CSR, appropriate constructs and related scale items were identified. Then, a panel of experts from academia and industry were consulted due to further improvements of the design of the study. To this point, resources and capabilities as driving factors have been largely left unexplored and the effect of these forces on socially responsible supply chain-based orientation, packaging and competitive advantage are brought to surface as further fruitful perspectives for future research. This research mainly assists industrial managers to better steer their supply chain management and packaging decisions in order to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"203 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131735518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although extant research recognises alliance network, network heterogeneity and absorptive capacity as predictor to innovation performance; mediation effect of network heterogeneity between innovation performance and its antecedents has been neglected. On the other hand, interaction effect of absorptive capacity has been widely researched, but these studies have not sufficiently analysed the influence of absorptive capacity on innovation performance due to conflicting results, especially regarding the multidimensional character of absorptive capacity. Present study intends to posit and set the stage for future research, whether relationship between innovation and its antecedents is mediated by firm's alliance network heterogeneity. Furthermore, we posit whether absorptive capacity acts as mediator or moderator between alliance network heterogeneity and innovation performance.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123960678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to Ethical Corporation Magazine (2006), multinationals use three methods to move into the ethical sector: a) launching new ethical products; b) buying or taking over ethical brands; c) by forming strategic alliances with sustainable fashion small to medium enterprises (SMEs). This study aims to fill a void in the literature by focusing on strategic alliances and the motivations behind forming these alliances. Through a mixed method approach, we take a closer look although the small entrepreneurial 'David's' and established multinational 'Goliaths' in the UK fashion industry interact and develop new 'ethical' collections, campaigns and brands. Our theoretical model proposes significance between the following variables; age, target market and motivations of the type of alliance formed. This model is useful for managers to determine the type of alliance they need in order to fulfil their requirements from an alliance.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124699638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
