However, reading is more than just the ability to recognize words and decode information. Successful reading requires an active interaction between the reader’s interpretation of the printed information, critical evaluation of the message and application of the newfound knowledge. This requirement necessitates the need to activate reading comprehension strategies that facilitate the representational construction of a text. This conceptual paper highlights a framework that allows the scaffolding and meaning construction to be performed through modelling, guiding and application of reading strategies. The integration of reciprocal teaching which is an instructional technique that builds on modelling and scaffolding four reading strategies, into the five phases of the inquiry-based learning cycle might impel reluctant readers to regain interest in reading by learning the suggested strategies in the predetermined phases.","PeriodicalId":333260,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130556900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the 3D's jobs, namely 'dirty, dangerous and difficult' jobs, are not well filled by local workers due to employers' unwillingness to raise wages and improve working conditions to minimize firms' cost. Instead, the firms tend to employ foreign labours to fill the shortfall and meet the market demand. Hence, this study aims to examine the relationship between economic determinants and foreign labour force in Malaysia. The four selected economic determinants are unemployment rate (UNEMP), gross domestic product (GDP), foreign exchange rate (FOREX) and labour productivity (LPY). The secondary data covering 18 years from 2001 to 2018 is tested and analyzed using descriptive, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses. The findings reveal that the GDP and FOREX have positive relationship with Malaysia's foreign labour force whilst the UNEMP and LPY pose negative relationship with the foreign labour force. However, only GDP and LPY are found to have significant relationship with foreign labour force in Malaysia. The findings have implications on and are beneficial to the policy makers and business firms in coming up with any measures pertaining foreign labour in Malaysia. The findings will also add more knowledge and references to the existing literature.","PeriodicalId":333260,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126796637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study which utilized quantitative research methods with survey design involved a total of 352 students at the Islamic University College of Melaka. Questionnaires adapted from the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS-21) instrument as well as nutritional practices and physical activities by Burton (1999) were used to measure students' Depression, Anxiety and Stress. For the first hypothesis, the result of Pearson Correlation analysis found that there was no relationship between knowledge of balanced food intake and students' mental health (r = -.002, k > .05). Next, the second hypothesis found that there was a relationship b etween student’s awareness of co -curricular activities on students' mental health. (r = -.112, k < .05). The results of the study clearly show that the level of knowledge on balanced food intake has no correlation with mental health. However, knowledge of physical activity does correlate with mental health. A balanced diet is very important for energy and fitness. Therefore, this clearly shows the need to emphasize the level of awareness of students on a balanced diet. It ensures a good level of mental health because they are more energetic, and can perform physical activities more effectively while adhering to the practice of new norms that have been set.","PeriodicalId":333260,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114626059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research has indicated that lifelong learning is usually conducted using individual perceptions such as the use of surveys or small-group focus groups. Yet, collaborative approaches that involve larger number of participants are limited. Moreover, in such approaches, there is also a lack of a common space in which participants can view and share their ideas with other participants. As such, in solving these issues and filling the gaps, we applied collaborative cloud-based mind- mapping in analyzing lifelong learning environments for higher education. The study involves 184 lifelong learners from North, Central and East Malaysia pursuing their postgraduate studies in the field of education. The software used for cloud-based mind-mapping was Coggle that enable real-time collaboration among the lifelong learners. In analyzing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in lifelong learning environments, we conducted a SWOT analysis that was based on four aspects: learner management, pedagogical approaches, support system, and best practices. Findings indicated that the collaborative cloud-based mind-mapping could be potentially used in eliciting issues, benefits, limitations, and future improvements of lifelong learning environments.","PeriodicalId":333260,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125872803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Evidence indicates that an ordinary Kenyan citizen is accessible to media that may come in the form of print, radio or television. Besides, not only is every Kenyan accessible to media, but also a typical Kenyan spends several hours in a day to media. The increasing number of hours Kenyans spend exposed to some kind of media raises the question ‘What is the impact of Media in the society and how media use influences others.? The study aimed to identify university students’ attitude towards effects of media to societies and use of media to influence others. Thus, the paper begins with a literature review supporting the impacts of media in the society and how media use by professionals influences others. The sample size includes 150 students from University of Nairobi. The time frame for this survey was between September to November 2020 and a questionnaire was used to collect adequate data from the targeted participants. From the analysis, the results shows that media impacts society in both positive and negative ways, and many students are willing to use positive messages in media to influence others positively. The discussion and conclusion summarize that media professionals should appreciate media as a tool for transforming societies.","PeriodicalId":333260,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115546699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design of this study was the content analysis approach. Document analysis methods explained the views of Western scholars. Language teaching and learning are critical in schools and higher learning institutions globally. Humans communicate orally and in writing by making language an intermediary medium. Relevant use of language according to the situation will promote the understanding of the listener or reader. Incompetent language use includes several language mistakes and induces constraints in reading a message in detail. Language error and language mistakes are two phrases that language scholars extensively discuss. The conclusions of the study confirmed that first language speakers and second language speakers perform language errors Additionally, the study outcomes indicated that language error in writing or speech is inevitable by first and second language speakers. The summaries also revealed that language error could be overcome through language teaching and learning in an arranged and methodical practices.","PeriodicalId":333260,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132018376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the communicative intent of the spoken discourse is examined by using social stories through the identification of the elements of discourse in utterances among ASD children. The current study uses qualitative data to provide details to the research objective, and a case study method design is utilised for the collection and analysis of the data. There are 13 ASD children selected as the sample for the study with four female and nine male children. As for the instruments, the study utilises social stories and semi-structured interview questions. There are three different social stories (Visiting atuk and nenek in Kampung, Being Kind to Animals and Helping My Family) narrated to the respondents. Nevertheless, to explain more about this phenomenon, the current research employs a theory; Discourse Analysis Theory (Normaliza Abd Rahim, 2019). The findings of the study reveal that the 13 respondents display seven communicative intent signals and their spoken utterances subscribe to the three elements (content, context and assumption) mentioned in the discourse theory. The aspects, in theory, have helped the ASD respondents to be able to understand the content and context of the social stories. There is no magic formula for teaching special educational needs students, especially autism.","PeriodicalId":333260,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences","volume":"601 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123182474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ‘PS3’ module aims to focus on the truancy issue of schools linked to self-concept, sense of belonging, and student engagement. CBT provides a framework for helping individuals obtain positive self-concept; enjoy a sense of belonging and engagement thereviating to reduce misconduct in violation of school discipline. The first phase study was conducted to build a draft module through goal construction; identify theories, rationale, philosophy, concepts, targets and timefreating; needs study; setting objectives; selection of contents; selection of strategies; logistics facilitation; media selection; and consolidate the draft module. The second phase study was to try and evaluate the module through pilot studies; determining the degree, reliability and norm; as well as evaluation of effectiveness. However, before the second phase, it is important to gain insights and comments from the panel of experts in terms of the contents of the modules and sessions as well as the activities of the ‘PS3’ module. The study samples were among the experts in psychology and counselling. The first phase of the findings resulted in 9 sessions and 11 activities in the ‘PS3’ module. Meanwhile, the second phase of the findings showed the value of the contents of the module according to Russel (1974) and found the presentation value of the session and the ‘PS3’ module activities was 91.36. Meanwhile, the findings after the first phase show feedback and improvement of modules in terms of content, sessions and activities by a panel of experts. The implication is to be aware of which aspects of the ‘PS3’ module should be made improvements before the ‘PS3’ module is used during counselling and cluster guidance sessions in schools. Hence, the outcome of the ‘PS3’ module can be extended by conducting a pilot study of the ‘PS3’ module on students facing truancy issues.","PeriodicalId":333260,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115014631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
