It is also aimed at showing the applicability of the scheme to scene analysis. The originality of this contribution is first to use spatio-temporal wavelet families tuned to motion. In this sense it differs from approaches based on motion unwarping then filtering with traditional wavelets. Here we process the warped signal and the motion parameters are acquired by wavelets tuned to specific parameters like rotation, velocity or acceleration, in addition to the traditional properties of scaling and translation of the wavelet transform. The other originality of this approach takes place in the fast construction of objects trajectories from the parameters acquired by the wavelet transform and from a model chosen for the trajectory estimation. We show in the final step how motion estimation can be deduced from the computed object trajectory.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. A morphological unsupervised 2D multiband histogram clustering provides an initial segmentation of the image. Region information is then used and a novel technique is introduced to simplify the region adjacency graph by merging candidate regions until the stabilization of a \"good\" segmentation criterion. Merged regions are refined by a color watershed. The whole method requires the definition of only one single parameter which acts as a multiscale parameter.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. We ask ourselves whether this feedback is justified in view of the increased capacity for post scheduling. We revisit the MUDiv concept and propose a technique that allows the dramatic reduction of the feedback (by up to 90%) needs while preserving the essential of the scheme performance. The technique is analyzed both analytically and through simulations.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. Losing of orthogonality causes the multiple access interference (MAI). To suppress the MAI, linear equalizers were proposed which can partially restore the orthogonality of spreading codes before dispreading. In this paper, a new adaptive equalizer using the least mean square (LMS) algorithm was proposed which can adjust its length according to the condition of the propagation channel. The simulation results show that the performance of the new equalizer is significantly better than that of the conventional RAKE receiver.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. A blood pulse wave velocity (PWV) in human arterial tree is determined by analysing phonocardiographic (PCG) records. Two signals are needed at minimum for an estimation of the pulse wave velocity. All of these signals have to be measured simultaneously from different points on a human body using electronic phonendoscopes. Pressure and sound manifestations of the pulse wave spreading are recorded in a cardiovascular system by this measuring device. Recorded signals are transferred to the computer in a real time mode, where they are saved for a next data processing (filtering, standardisation, and analysis). The pulse wave velocity is estimated using a cross-correlation analysis of recorded phonocardiographic signals.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. This paper places its emphasis on the importance of the short term prediction (STP) filter parameters as these are perceptually important to intelligible speech. We introduces several novel schemes for the recovery of lost STP parameters represented as line spectral frequencies (LSFs) based on extrapolation and interpolation techniques. The unique inclusion of a number of past and/or future frames further commends this work. Methods which outperforms the traditional frame repetition and linear interpolation in terms of accuracy are presented and evaluated.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. This problem often happens when the first and second largest eigenvalues are close together that results in the disconnection or quality degradation of communications. The proposed method is based on the recovery of the correct weight pair between the transceiver and receiver. First, to cope with the uncertainness of eigenvectors coming from the eigenvalue degeneration of the channel correlation matrix, we give a procedure to derive a unique weight common in both arrays. Then through computer simulations, it is shown that this approach achieves high SNR without losing the orthogonality of weights for plural MIMO paths as in the case of the eigenvector exchange when the relation of the eigenvalues is changed in one side of the arrays.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. In this paper, we proposed a new data-driven temporal processing method using independent component analysis (ICA) for obtaining a more robust speech representation. ICA is a signal processing technique, which can separate linearly mixed signals into statistically independent signals. The presented method can effectively extract the dominant frequency components ranging between 1 and 16 Hz from the modulation spectrum of speech signals. Detailed comparative analysis between the proposed ICA-derived temporal filters and the previous approaches including LDA and PCA is presented. The preliminary experiments show that the performance of the ICA based temporal filtering is much better in comparison with the LDA and PCA based methods in noisy environment.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. In contrast, parts-based representation is an alternative way of understanding object recognition in brain. In this paper we employ the non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) [D.D. Methods of feature extraction from spectro-temporal sounds using the NMF in the absence or presence of noise are explained. The Haar wavelet is substituted for the bandpass filter commonly used in the algorithm and is applied to sample the data from two popular databases. We found that the application of the Haar wavelet as a filtering step produces a much clearer signal after the integration phase of the Pan-Tompkins algorithm and that peak detection is comparable to that of the bandpass approach. The benefits of using the Haar wavelet includes simpler computations and its hardware implementation is cheaper than that of the bandpass filter since there is no multiplication necessary.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat.
