The proposed scheme exploits guard interval (GI) information embedded in MC-CDMA symbol blocks and is an extension of the work in F. Daffara and A. Chouly (May 1993). At each level, the process starts by selecting the significant edges with respect to their gradient magnitude. The selected edges are then matched in order to obtain the reference edges from which less significant edges are matched in the next level. The matching procedure is based on a voting scheme by using the local and global constraints. The performance of the proposed stereo matching method is evaluated for real-time obstacle detection in front of a vehicle using linear cameras.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. The method is cyclic prefix based and estimates the average time delay of multipath multiuser signals. Position of cyclic prefix correlation peaks is estimated using a low complexity algorithm, which exploits the fact that these peaks exist in periodic fashion with a period equal the MC-CDMA frame length. This approach allows the fast Fourier transform (FFT) window placement at a fixed distance from the estimated time delay avoiding any intersymbol interference (ISI) users.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. This paper discusses in what sense the cascade model can be seen as an invariant of the Internet traffic. It explains why conservative cascades model the time-invariant properties of the Internet traffic at timescales up to hundreds of milliseconds. Furthermore, it shows the limitations of the conservative cascades to model part of the time-dependent scaling properties of Internet traffic.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. Function of support in time-frequency plane is introduced to reduce the analysis to the specified time-frequency region. Proactive NVOID schemes are very attractive at high arrival rates but these introduce user delay, which can only be reduced by increasing the number of server streams. This paper proposes a new scheme, called batched multicast patching (BMP), which combines both reactive and proactive methods by multicasting patch streams to a batch of user requests for a video which is broadcast in a staggered manner. This scheme uses less number of server streams at both moderate and high arrival rates. The number of channels the client has to join concurrently is at most two. This scheme is less complex than other low user delay broadcasting protocols such as pyramid and harmonic broadcasting protocols.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. Meanwhile, the adaptation of scalable video to the variations of the transmission conditions over the network could result in losing a part of the bitstream. In this paper we show that a statistical spatio-temporal model of the wavelet coefficients can be effective in the prediction of the lost subbands at the decoder side. Based on this analysis we propose an error concealment method and provide experimental results showing the quality improvement that can be achieved by using it.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. Smart antennas are one promising technology to establish exposure reduction while upholding system capacity requirements. In this context, the main objective of this paper is to assess the performance improvements of practically applicable beamforming concepts for UMTS networks. The concepts illuminated are fixed as well as adaptive beamforming. To obtain suitable assessments we especially attend three essential aspects. First, proper SINR modelling is considered including spatially formed inter-/intra-cell interference as well as pilot pollution prevailing UMTS networks. Special interest is secondly given on the interaction between UMTS specific radio-resource management algorithms as power-/load control and the smart antenna concepts considered. Finally, we investigate mixed data rate traffic which is expected for UMTS. The simulations are carried out utilizing a combination of UMTS physical and dynamic system level simulators.","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat. Theses applications are often distributed over several sites, they manipulate large volumes of data and their actions have temporal constraints and are causally related. Therefore, DRT-DBSs/sup 1/ are the systems that manage them efficiently, notably if the transaction concurrency control and commit processes take into account the precedence relationships which might exist between transactions or subtransactions. In this paper, we propose causal-prompt protocol to manage the commit process of such transactions. We show that causal-prompt protocol respects certain transactions properties and enhances the real-time transaction success ratio (number of transactions that meet their deadlines/total number of transactions).","PeriodicalId":332887,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (IEEE Cat.
