Such forms of activities of the fellowship as organizing the primary education, conducting theatre performances, maintaining educational libraries, forming the historical consciousness and creating the image of the poet Taras Shevchenko as a “father” of the Ukrainian nation are examined within the article. The national character of the fellowship is emphasized in the current publication.\u0000The fact that the “Prosvita” fellowship centres in the North of Gadiach county were established right after the Ukrainian Central Rada emergence in Kyiv is stated. During the period of UNR the “Prosvita” fellowship centres of the Lypovodolyna district eagerly supported the revolutionary parliament of Ukraine and its policy. Actually they were the representative centres of the Ukrainian Central Rada in the region.\u0000Concerning the relationship of the “Prosvita” fellowship with the Bolshevik authorities\u0000the article defines that the latest, though considering the fellowship centres anti-revolutionary, did not counteract their activities in the first half of 1919.\u0000The occupation of the region by the Russian Denikin Voluntary army caused the escalation of the repressions against the members of the fellowship. Since the middle 1920 the Bolshevik authorities began the practice of state controlling. Due to the activity of the Bolshevik political education 22 organizations had been established on the territory of the modern Lypovodolyna district by the beginning of 1922.\u0000The article comes to the conclusion that during its short six year history (1917-1922)\u0000the “Prosvita” fellowship of the Lypovodolyna district provided the cultural ascension which accompanied national-liberation struggles of the Ukrainian people. Moreover, the “Prosvita” movement turned into the main organizational form of engaging the vast strata of the society into the active participation in that process.\u0000Key words: “Prosvita”, Lypovodolyna district, Ukrainian revolution, theatre, historical\u0000consciousness, education, libraries, Taras Shevchenko.

His public activity during the period of the national liberation movement (1917-1920) is characterized in the article. Amet Ozenbashly’s participation in convening and conducting the Constituent Assembly of the Crimean Tatar nation (the first Kurultai), his activity within the Directory and the Central Committee of the Crimean Tatar national party “Milliy Fyrqa” is also emphasized in the work. A. Ozenbashly didn’t immigrate after the defeat of the national revolution. At the beginning of the 1920s he participated in the establishment of the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and was the member of its Central Executive Committee. He also held the position of the headmaster in the Crimean pedagogical college, the Deputy People’s Commissar of Finance; he practiced as a neurologist in Simferopil and was engaged in the literature activity. He was repressed in 1928. He was sentenced to death but his verdict was changed to 10 years of imprisonment. He was released from prison prematurely in 1934.\u0000A. Ozenbashly’s activity during the period of the German occupation is characterized in\u0000the study. He wrote the memorandum about the collaboration with the German although the document was not manifested. He made covert public statements against the collaboration with the German. He urged the Crimean Tatars to choose the third way (neither Hitlerism nor Stalinism) and value their own national interests above all. Because of risk of being arrested he had to hide.\u0000According to H. Porokhovsky’s (the former colonel of the UNR army, the leader of the\u0000Ukrainian military emigration in Romania, the employee of the Romanian special information service) archive-investigation file A. Ozenbashly moved to Odesa and then to Romania with his assistance. Being in this Balkan country he established linkages with the leaders of the Crimean Tatar emigration in Turkey, helped the refugees from the Crimea to settle in Romania and got ready to move to Istanbul. However he was arrested and repressed by the Soviet intelligence agency for the second time in spring 1945.\u0000Key words: Amet Ozenbashly, the Crimea, the Crimean Tatars, Milliy Fyrqa, Romania,\u0000Hnat Porokhovsky.
THE THEME OF THE GERMAN SUBMARINES’ACTIVITIES COVERED IN THE PRESS PROPAGANDA ON THE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES OF UKRAINE (BASED ON THE MATERIALS OF “SUMY HERALD” IN 1941-1943)
The materials of the newspaper “Sumy Herald” published during the period of the German occupation in the city of Sumy and devoted to the German submarines’ activities are analyzed in the article. The objective of the publication is to highlight the usage of this theme by the German propaganda to influence the Ukrainian population through the local press. The author has come to the conclusion that newspapers were the most widespread and effective form of propaganda at that time on the occupied territories of the USSR and Ukraine. In comparison to the radio and cinema they were able to cover the considerable part of the rural and urban population. The reports concerning the conduct of military operations were produced centrally and did not take into consideration the specific nature of perceiving this sort of information by the local population. They reports were overloaded with digital, geographic data and specific terms. Only in the second half of 1942 the articles, maps and charts meant to explain certain issues of the undersea war were produced. The greatest attention to the German submarines’ activities was paid by the propaganda in the period from February to September 1942. This is related to the successful actions of the German troops at the Eastern coast of the North Africa. The information concerning this theme was generally published on the first page. It was printed in the headings or subheadings, the bold font was used in the text of the article. Sometimes some illustrations in the form of photos and cartoons were used. The latter were not very common in the newspapers of that period. The information about the undersea war was provided quite promptly and in general was accurate. Except the loses of Britain and its allies in separate military operations the general data concerning the tonnage of sunk ships was published. The information about the German submarines loses was not given in contrast to the loses of the planes, for example. The reports references to the names of the submarines’ captains without providing any information about their personalities had no “personification” effect. Perhaps, it might be compensated by other sources of propaganda, for example by “Die Deutsche Wochenschau” series in the cinemas. But the latter covered a considerably lesser audience in comparison to the newspapers.

Kudinov
Sumy City Cemetery, given the personalities of prominent Sumy people buried on it,\u0000as well as the artistic and historical value of many tombstones, is of great historical,\u0000cultural and memorial importance. There are 39 cultural heritage sites on its territory,\u0000three of which are of national importance and 36 of local significance.\u0000At the same time, many burials of the City Cemetery, valuable from a historical or artistic\u0000point of view, do not have the status of a cultural heritage site. Procrastination in granting it the status of cultural heritage sites can eventually lead to their destruction. However, burials that have the appropriate status are not always properly cared for. Yes, the crypt-pyramid is cluttered and actively destroyed. Sculptures by Aristide Croisy need to be restored. The protection status of the monuments located on the territory of the City Cemetery is not specified in any way, there are no appropriate protection boards, plaques, explanations. The locations of the monuments are not marked on the information stand located at the entrance to the cemetery. Thus, there are two main problems in the accounting and preservation of monuments located in the City Cemetery of Sumy. The first is the significant number of sites that need to be given cultural heritage status of local significance. The second is the unsatisfactory condition of cultural heritage sites, including those of national importance. The first problem, in our opinion, can be solved by creating regional expert commissions, which should be able to promptly consider the inclusion of cultural heritage sites in the State Register by category of local importance. The problem of proper maintenance of monuments requires the joint efforts of public authorities and local governments with activists of public organizations, especially those whose statutory tasks include the protection of cultural heritage.
