In this process, user perception of quality of service (QoS) plays an important role. Since people have different expectations we concluded that it is important to ensure that courseware packages meet the user perceived QoS rather than commonly defined QoS. To investigate this hypothesis, we have constructed a multi agent testbed (MAT) for integrated management of resource distribution. We report on current work employing the WWW to publicise student laboratory class lists, illustrated lecture material and course information. E-mail was employed between the lecturer and students as an alternative to consultation. An examination was run via the WWW in a laboratory of computers. Responses were collated, marked and disseminated automatically via special software. The same software was employed to run a feedback questionnaire. Student evaluation of the WWW facility was favourable. One of the reasons for the difficulty is that students can not observe astronomical objects in school. We consider that the Internet and its multimedia applications can resolve this problem. On November 19th, 1995, we had a very unusual astronomical phenomenon. We broadcasted the real time video of this astronomical phenomenon to the Internet. This experiment shows that the Internet has the advantages for classroom lessons in astronomy. The second part gives an idea of the knowledge that students must acquire. The system incorporated most of the essential Internet services such as customized email, file transfer, remote log in to another host and World Wide Web navigator. The system is comprised of a module to diagnose a student's background mathematical knowledge and modules to which the student is directed to remedy any deficiencies that are found. The remedial modules focus on common areas of weakness in mathematics and revise the basic mathematical tools that are needed by business students. For example, there are currently nine modules of which three deal with numbers, graphs and the solution of equations. With the use of multimedia facilities incorporating colour and animation, the system can be perceptually more varied, more interesting and easier to use than existing print based information. For maximum accessibility and ease of implementation, the software was designed to run in a Windows environment using the authoring language Asymetrix \"Multimedia Toolbook\". The system is run and administered on the University's Novell network, but the developed software can be readily distributed and run independently of the network. This allows the software to be used off-campus, and makes the system equally accessible to students who are studying by distance education, open learning or who are located on an overseas campus.","PeriodicalId":332016,"journal":{"name":"1996 IEEE International Conference on Multi Media Engineering Education.
