In many countries, tourism plays an important role in the formation of gross domestic product, in activating foreign trade balance, in creating a lot of businesses and in employment. The contribution of tourism sector to the country's economy is difficult to calculate exactly because this sector is also, directly and indirectly, contributing to other sectors. Generally speaking, tourism always has a positive effect on economic growth. From the date of Kazakhstan independence declaration, tourism sector has always been given special importance. In Kazakhstan, tourism seems to have developed rapidly, especially after the declaration of independence, and is trying to gain its place in the international tourism. The aim of our work in this context is to test whether there is a relationship between tourism and export revenues and to identify the possible contributions of this sector to export-based economic growth. Thus, time series for the variables of tourism revenues and export revenues, between 1995 and 2015, were examined using the VAR model. The empirical results showed that both tourism revenues and export revenues have their impact on tourism revenues. In conclusion, tourism is a major sector of Kazakhstan’s economy and it serves as a good source of foreign exchange. In this regard, investments in the aforesaid sphere of the country and the enactment of favourable policies lead to economic growth.","PeriodicalId":330787,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of international studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122268784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The stylized facts show a downward tendency of real effective exchange rate from 2000Q1 to 2019Q4. The question is to explain how real effective exchange rate appreciation occurs during the period of economic transition and convergence. Theoretically, we refer to the BalassaSamuelson effect according to which the real exchange rate appreciation is a result of faster relative productivities. We refer to Balassa (1964) and Samuelson (1964) and to some recent working papers in order to formulate an adequate model for Moroccan case. Our objective is to explain how domestic and foreign factors affect real effective exchange rate through the productivity gap between tradable sector and non-tradable sector. The results show that an increase in trade openness rate, in weight of US dollar in Moroccan dirham’s basket currencies, in tradable production, in foreign tradable capital stock, in foreign tradable factors’ output elasticity and in domestic wage level, results in real exchange rate appreciation (deterioration in external competitiveness). Meanwhile, an increase in domestic labor output elasticity, in labor force and capital transfers to tradable sector, in foreign non-tradable capital stock and in foreign non-tradable factors’ output elasticity, results in real exchange rate depreciation (amelioration in external competitiveness).","PeriodicalId":330787,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of international studies","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116260539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis shows the main characteristics of the current life insurance market in Australia and its factors (determinants) that will guide the life insurance market in the future. The authors have defined and calculated the main indicators of competitiveness for Australian life insurance industry (growth rates of the life insurers number’; density of insurance; penetration rates; concentration ratios; Herfindahl-Hirschman index; integrated assessment of competitiveness). In this paper, we analyzed the general trends and competitiveness of Australian life insurance market for the 1997-2017 period. The results of the Herfindahl-Hirschman index calculations, based on the net policy revenue, demonstrate that Australian life insurance industry competition is high and there is a slight concentration at this market. Herfindahl-Hirschman index for other indicators shows that competition within life insurance industry is defined as weak and underdeveloped. In addition, the analysis shows that for Australian life insurance market there are statistically significant and directly proportional impacts of, firstly, population on life insurance premiums; secondly, the number of life insurers on life insurance penetration rate via gross written premium; thirdly, the number of life insurance companies on life insurance penetration rate via assets of life insurers; and, lastly, life insurance companies’ assets on gross written life insurance premiums.","PeriodicalId":330787,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of international studies","volume":"125 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126276783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By encouraging multinational corporations to invest, host countries hope to generate spillovers because FDI transfer intangible assets to the affiliate, which may then diffuse to local firms. Serbia is integrating into European economic space with a significant delay. Despite a thunderous decade of wars and ethnic tussle, late transition and financial crisis, Serbia has experienced significant FDI inflows in the last decade, mainly because of the improved policies attracting foreign investors. The aim of this paper is to analyze the correlation and significant degree to which the examined variables are associated with each other. The economic variables cover 12 years (20072018). The main focus is on those variables that are considerably influencing changes and impact on FDI in Serbia. The study uses SPSS to analyse the correlations among the selected eight socioeconomic variables. The examined variables are: industrial growth, unemployment rate, employment from age 15 to 65, foreign trade balance, FDI inflows, FDI outflows, GDP growth, and the share of value added products in the exports. For this analysis the data from the Statistical Office or the Republic of Serbia, the National Bank of Serbia and the Ministry of Finance has been used. There is a very weak correlation between FDI inflows and the unemployment rate. Also, our results suggest there is a very weak correlation between FDI inflows and increased GDP growth. The GDP growth has strong correlations with the industry growth, FDI inflow and FDI outflow.","PeriodicalId":330787,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of international studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133541150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
