This is a new and significant issue, which has not been investigated deeply. This paper sets out to provide a systematic review of the literature, focusing on the role of culture in IT governance. The literature review findings are categorized through the lens of IT governance's five focus areas which are IT strategic alignment, IT value delivery, Risk management, IT resource management and Performance measurement. This study contributes to the field of IT governance by reviewing and discussing the existing literature on the role of culture on IT governance. This literature review resulted that there are few research studies in this topic and many of the IT governance focus areas are not covered regarding the role of culture in these IT governance areas.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. This study proposes a research model that relies on the configurational theory in an attempt to reveal different clusters of IT governance practices and link them with the performance of business units from a financial and non-financial perspective. To test the model, 57 matched surveys were collected from medium to large international organizations. Three configurations of IT governance practices have emerged with distinct and significant impact on the business unit non-financial performance. However, no significant impact on the business unit financial performance was directly found. The results show that more mature IT governance practices within organizations can result in higher levels of performance at the business unit level in terms of business processes, decision making, innovation, and legal and ethical compliance.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. Preventing and responding to cybercrime is becoming an integral part of management practices which are supervised by the Board of Directors BoD, and it can no longer be perceived as just traditional IT. In order to improve the maturity of business information security a transformation is needed and this requires adequate reporting and dashboarding. Dashboard functions such as the current versus the desired state of the Maturity of Business Information Security MBIS reflect certain parameters that boards can influence. Determining the key dashboard functions that reflect these parameters of control was the main motivation for this research paper and the ultimate goal was to engineer a BIS artefact. We propose a research and design method that could be used to establish an experimental dashboard with initial parameters of control based on a Group Support System GSS approach. Finally, GSS is evaluated as a method for a examining which parameters are effective for BIS, from multiple perspectives and b helping to implement the artefact make it fit the purpose as well as the associated business alignment and decision-making.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. Yet, they are usually operated with limited resources, which motivates cooperation. We investigated, how ICT cooperation was governed in 20 Finnish regions. As the theoretical basis, we reviewed TCE, RBV, IT governance practice and Granovetter's social network theories. The theory basis was used to identify theory-proposed cooperation benefits and to link these benefits to IT governance practices. We then compared theory-proposed benefits and practices to those detected in the 20 regions. Our findings revealed differences in ICT cooperation, in the gaining of benefits, and in the use of IT governance practices. The lack of social ties helped to understand differences. Our findings indicate that the emperor will not enjoy new clothes – ICT cooperation benefits – unless ICT cooperation is systematically organized for governance. We contribute to research by augmenting the theory base of IT governance research, by extending IT governance research to inter-organizational contexts and by showing how this theory base can be used empirically.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. Regardless of ample research, achieving and sustaining business-IT alignment remains challenging to organization's management. To this day, the influence of organizational politics remains unstudied in the light of business-IT alignment. By performing a case study in a large organization in Sweden, the authors present and discuss how organizational politics influences business-IT alignment from the viewpoint of practitioners. They find that organizational politics has a negative influence on communications, partnering, IT governance, IT scope, and business and IT skills of the Strategic Alignment Maturity model. Furthermore, the authors identified several root causes for organizational politics in the business-IT alignment context, not addressed by the commonly used business-IT alignment constructs. The findings of this research study are useful to business and IT practitioners for achieving and sustaining business-IT alignment in their organizations considering the influence of organizational politics.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. Its first principle is that all IT related activities should support generating value for the enterprise. This principle is put in practice through the COBIT 5 Goals Cascade. In this paper the author has researched this principle's main claimed benefit, i.e. that it allows to prioritise IT related processes based on overall enterprise priorities. The quality of the goals cascade was researched by looking at the accuracy of the published mapping tables, the dependencies between goals in the same goal set and the sensitivity of the Goals Cascade towards input variations. The author concludes that the current Goals Cascade isn't very useable as a prioritisation mechanism for IT processes. The author finally proposes an improvement to the current Goals Cascade, consisting of an additional, limited set of 'Enterprise Strategies' that map directly to IT related processes. A prototype solution has been tested, showing promising improvements.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. IT Bus. The goal is to understand how ITG influences the behavior of individuals within organizations. Organizational Citizenship Behavior OCB concept was selected to analyze individuals' voluntary commitment within an organization that is not part of their contractual tasks. The premise is that ITG influences organizational citizenship behavior such as job satisfaction and rewards perception. The research was conducted through a focus group made up of the members of an IT State Governance Committee in Brazil and semi structured interviews with IT managers from the state departments. Questions based on OCB were discussed in order to understand the behavioral changes expectations along the ITG mechanisms adoption. The preliminary results showed that citizenship behavior could improve because of the ITG process. Based on the results, a preliminary conceptual model was proposed.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. IT Bus. The theoretical deliberations and empirical data of a single in-depth case study shows that taking an activity theoretical lens offers a way to conceptualize the mechanisms, triggers and complexities of business-IT alignment that enhance our understanding of the alignment process and reveal important implications for practice. Building on activity theory and the notion of interrelated activity systems, the authors propose to view business and IT as two distinct, yet related activity systems that co-evolve over time. Moreover, they show that business-IT alignment can be understood as a process of continuous adjustments between the two collective, pragmatic, contested and situated activity systems of business and IT. Examining data spanning six years of transformation processes, the authors systematically increase their understanding of the processes and underlying mechanisms of aligning business and IT. These insights are facilitated via the conceptualization of the alignment as a process aimed to reduce contradictions and tensions within and between the linked activity systems of business and IT. The theoretical deliberations and empirical evidence show that AT provides a strong theoretical foundation and a robust framework that is able to facilitate rigorous process-oriented studies, whose findings can guide endeavors of detecting and approaching misalignments in practice.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. In this paper, the authors develop an IT Governance culture model based on Detert et al's (2000) framework involving eight dimensions of culture. Each dimension is described in terms of how they relate to the implementation of IT governance initiatives. The authors' contribution is to illustrate the utility of the framework by linking the eight general cultural dimensions to propose a normative model of ITG values and beliefs, that they argue, represent the ‘ideal organisational culture' of successful ITG implementations. By doing so, they present a necessary step in developing the dimensions of the concept of ITG culture and moving products such as COBIT5 towards a more comprehensive framework based on systemic empirical research.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. However, according to some scholars, a transformation is therefore in which the perspective on business cases shifts from document thinking to process thinking. This study presents a part of an exploration of a process perspective on business cases. In order to achieve this objectives, a group of academic and practitioner experts participated in a Delphi study and validated in total 31 business case practices, of which the majority was perceived as highly effective to support the objectives of a business case process. The paper ends with an exploration of the practical application of business case process practices in the context of COBIT 5, as an instance of a widely used practitioners framework.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int.
