Previous research provides an ample body of work both on IT governance and strategic alignment. However, empirical evidence of the effect of IT governance on alignment is still lacking. This study explores how IT governance impacts strategic alignment on strategic and tactical levels. Based on a survey, the study confirms a positive impact of IT governance on strategic alignment and proposes a preliminary set of eight key practices of IT governance to support strategic alignment with further scrutiny of different industries, regions, and larger sample sizes.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. However, these barriers are studied either from a pure theoretical perspective or with limited empirical scope. This consequently hinders the achievement of BITA in organizations. In this article the practitioners view of barriers to BITA are investigated aiming at producing a list of barriers which practitioners can use as a ground for better achievement of BITA. The list of barriers was identified by conducting three in-depth case studies on multinational organizations acting in Sweden along with two focused group discussions of researchers, and followed by a survey on 74 large and medium sized organizations on the Swedish market. The result of this study is a list of 45 barriers to BITA from the perspectives of business and IT practitioners.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. IT Bus. In order to implement an ITSM project successfully in an organization, it is essential to select a suitable ITSM software. Evaluation and selection of the ITSM software packages is complicated and time consuming decision making process. This paper presents an approach for dealing with such a problem. This approach introduces functional, non-functional and fuzzy evaluation method for ITSM software selection. The presented ITIL based approach breaks down ITSM software selection criteria into two broad categories namely functional (service strategy, service design, service transition, service operation, continual service improvement according to ITIL V3) and non-functional requirements (quality, technical, vendor, implementation) including totally 46 selection criteria. A facile Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS) was customized for ITSM software selection based on identified criteria. The proposed approach is applied to a local Iranian company in the field of IT services in order to select and acquire an ITSM software and the provided numerical example illustrates the applicability of the approach for ITSM software selection. The approach can help practitioners assess ITSM software more properly and have a better software acquisition decision with growth in customer satisfaction and service time reduction.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. This causes the need for organizational structures, processes as well as their supporting information systems (IS) to adapt accordingly. Nevertheless it is striking to note that few value management practices explicitly incorporate evolvability as an important criterion for their evaluation of information technology dependent strategic initiatives (ITDSI). In this paper, the authors try to make a contribution regarding this issue. They explore some possibilities for assessing the evolvability of an information technology (IT) application. In addition, a set of five specific management guidelines is proposed to guide organizations, which are willing to address this issue, in their efforts. This should enable an organization to more easily select and deploy evolvable information systems, enhance its overall alignment with its environment and obtain a competitive advantage. The relevance of our approach is demonstrated by showing how it fits within the enterprise goals, IT goals and enabling practices as defined by the COBIT framework.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. Recent discussions express the need for a bi-directional paradigm for internet based business models. IT governance frameworks support business/IT alignment but mostly follow a business-driven alignment paradigm. We identify characteristics of internet based business models and examine how the IT governance framework COBIT 5 can integrate these characteristics under consideration of a bi-directional business/IT alignment process. We reveal that requirements for internet based business models are not fully covered by the framework. Based on a structural description of internet based business models and the COBIT 5 Goal Cascade, we explain these specific requirements and propose a possible integration of a bottom-up alignment. With this work we provide guidance in the challenge of business/IT alignment for internet based business models and show pathways for IT governance frameworks to better support a bi-directional alignment.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. They are often associated with product/service innovation, new business models or an enterprise-wide transformation e.g. Enterprise Resource Planning ERP investment. Although these may deliver operational excellence and a competitive advantage, it is a risky endeavour with high failure rates. One of the critical factors to achieve a successful outcome is to develop a sound business case. Many organisations perceive a business case as a valuable instrument for investment justification and decision-making, yet other organisations still do not develop a business case due to insufficient knowledge. In response to this knowledge gap, Ward, Daniel, and Peppard 2008 designed a business case development process that ends on investment approval. Others scholars however call for a continuous usage of business cases throughout the entire investment life cycle. The present research responds to this call with an exploratory case study in order to identify multiple business case tasks that complement the process of Ward et al. 2008. The paper starts with a description of background literature on what constitutes a business case whereof the authors derive a new definition. The authors then set the context and structure for an initial business case process based on the contribution by Ward et al., 2008. The findings of the exploratory case study and the initial business case process are discussed.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. IT Bus. This research focuses on how ITG is adopted and implemented in higher education institutions in UAE by considering the case of two different universities. The research proposes a theoretical framework derived from COBIT and Six Sigma to help in governing IT in higher education institutions. The framework will help in directing different processes toward evaluating any decision concerning the alignment and compatibility of IT with the overall strategies and goals of higher education institutions. This is achieved to increase services quality over time, aligning and supporting business strategies, and controlling and minimizing IT risks in order to increase stakeholder's value and reducing cost.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int. To allow this tight collaboration, business process management in these collaborative networks is becoming increasingly important. This paper discusses automated support for this networked business process management: automated means to manage business processes that span multiple autonomous organizations. The author starts this paper with a treatment of intra-and inter-organizational business processes to provide a conceptual background for business process management in business networks. The author describes a number of research approaches in this area, including the context of these approaches and the architectures of the automated systems proposed by them. The approaches are described from early developments in the field relying on dedicated technology to current designs based on standardized technology in a service-oriented context. The paper thereby provides an overview of developments in the area of inter-organizational business process management in the spectrum from simple, static business networks to complex, dynamic networks. The author observes that the described BPM research efforts move from pushing new BPM technology into application domains to using BPM to realize business-IT alignment in complex application contexts.","PeriodicalId":329249,"journal":{"name":"Int.
