However, little is known about their specific health needs, or how these needs may be best met by the statutory services. This study indicates a considerable degree of unmet need and points to a failure by the Health Service to maintain a continuity of health care for these young people. A formal policy is called for in which multidisciplinary Teams for Adults with Handicaps are set up at district level, to provide a clinical, support, and coordination service for all adults with disabilities.","PeriodicalId":318604,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The British Institute of Mental Handicap (apex)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121999737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

None of the five students possess skills of intentional communication. The course is believed to be the first one of its kind in Australia and was of an experimental nature. The course content is described. The main aim of this presentation is to share information and to invite collaboration from others in similar areas of work.","PeriodicalId":318604,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The British Institute of Mental Handicap (apex)","volume":"370 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128056680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various models of functional communication offer help in formulating curriculum content for pupils at the pre-one word and one word production level.
